    I hope this is not inappropriate, but I’d like to share my method (I have never seen anyone use it yet). What I do is: I stamp my image in (normal) black ink on a piece of paper (I use copy papier) and then I put it in my laserprinter copier and copy the image on cardstock. Now I have a toner image of my stamp, super easy!!!

      I do that also 😀 (I thus avoid buying toner sheets like Gina K 's for instance). I just buy her stamps set, stamp and then make toner printer copies so get both. Other method is clear embossing then through minc machine. It works great!

    This product is best with very fine stamps in my experience…great with fine sentiments etc ….. I did an experiment and re inked the pad , covered it tightly in press’n’seal wrap and then put the lid on …a week later it was still wet …not sure if it was only a fluke or it will always work …
    P.s. I used a fine paintbrush to fill in areas that didn’t stamp well .

    HI Simon, I just came across this video now. Thanks for sharing you process with us! I tried the toner ink with clear stamps last month for the first time. I was fortunate enough to see Heidi's IGTV video with Tim Holtz from last May and he used an eye dropper of ink on a non-stick mat and applied the ink with a brayer. I didn't have a non-stick mat so I used some coated freezer paper instead. It was much easier to use and less waste and easier clean up. I also used my stamping tool to apply several layers of the ink and my foiling came out spectacular! Quick and light pressure works better. If I pressed to hard or too long it stuck and ripped the paper. It is definitely a learning curve, but it has so many possibilities! I am looking forward to more experimentation with it!

    You can also stamp with a Glue Essentials pad, let it go tacky, and then press your foil on it. You can even just use a piece of scrap foil and just press it down, again and again to use every bit of the foil.

    Hey Simon....thanks for testing out the toner ink pad. I have to say that I saw a few Creativation videos using this product and at the time I thought to myself that considering the person demoing this product didn't get the best results, I knew that I would be waiting for all the issues to be worked out - or at least make the process for using it to be simplified and/or have more consistent results - before buying this or a similar product. To be honest, I would have waited to bring it to the retail market but hey, that's just me. The idea is there but I just don't feel the execution is. TFS Simon and stay safe & healthy!

    Not a big fan of Heidi Swapp toner ink pad. I can make perfect foiled stamps by stamping first with versa mark then coating the versa mark with clear embossing powder. Heat the powder to set just like you would when doing any powder embossing. Let it dry. Put the stamped embossed piece with the foil shiny pattern on top and place it inside a folder and run it through the Minc or other laminator. Sometimes it takes a bit of experimentation to get it right for the heat setting. I get gorgeous results every time. Thank you for demonstrating this product.

    Hi Simon! Very intriguing product, especially since my printer does not use toner. I had a thought about the photopolymer stamps. You said you thought maybe they were too sticky & possibly causing it not to get very good coverage. What about using an antic static bag on the stamp before you put the toner on it? The anti static bag can be used on tape when you want to make it less sticky, maybe it would work on the stamps as well. Just a thought.

    Could just get a black only laser printer & stamp the image you want with reg black ink of any kind then run copies through the printer then foil. Or take to your office supply store where there's access to print on laser. I remember years ago they would only run the laser printers. I am going to call & find out cost & availability. I am not buying another foiling machine when I can make this work. I have the toner ink pad & ink that you demoed but was sad to here they dry out & they're sticky. Maybe smooth watercolor paper would work?

    I just found this video, and the one in which you use the combo of versamark, heat-set embossing powder, and that topped with foil and through a laminator. The later seems to be the most reliable, even though the toner ink method might be fewer steps. As I have such a limited time to craft, I’m not inclined to putz with products to achieve a result. Maybe another sideline some stamp companies could get into is sentiments pre-printed on paper plus the dies to cut them out with? Some may have already come out with such a product, but since paper crafting stores are few and far between, I’m unaware of such things if they don’t show up on Y.T.!

      Or maybe just a layer of embossing ink on the stamp (not stamping on the paper), before inking it up with the toner ink. Perhaps this would keep the toner ink from sticking to the stamp and more would transfer to the paper. The toner ink pad is a great idea, but I'm not quite sold on it yet.

    I would love to start foiling, but I do have 1 question. I know the toner stains the photopolymer stamps, but does it harm them?

    Can I use regular laminating sheets from the dollar store in my minc machine or will it full on laminate my foiling projects

    Hi there! So this is my first time coming across your page and I loved your review for the Heidi swapp stamp kit since I’m thinking about buying it! But I just had a quick question, you said there are certain card stock you recommend and some you don’t. So what’s the brand name of the last card stock your recommended?? I just got a laser printer and tried foiling for first and I was having a little bit of trouble getting the tools to adhere completely to the toner and now I’m wondering if it has to do with the cardstock I have or perhaps the laminator too lol not sure but it was a struggle 🤔

    Great video! So helpful! Building the ink up with the Misti is brilliant! Was wondering what type of paper did you have success with and didn't tear? Thanks much!

    I wonder if one could use an embossing folder somehow?

  • @krystinsawyer
    @krystinsawyer Před 4 lety

    You can do the same thing by using pigment ink to stamp, heat embossing, then running the project through a laminator with foil.

      I haven’t had the best results with embossing then foiling... the embossing gets smooshed and loses tons of detail.

      Simon Hurley weird. That’s not been my experience at all.

      @@krystinsawyer I also get splodgy images this way. Not sure if the heat setting isnt right but I only have one setting. Do you put the foil on straight after heating or let anything sit for a while before feeding into laminator?

    Simon, Thank you for your video on this. I especially loved the "I'm proud of you" card. It came out great with the background stamp! Here's a question, how often to the stamp pad refills need to be replaced? Is it just one use or can it be store for another use later in the week?

    • @simon.hurley
      @simon.hurley  Před 4 lety +1

      I am pretty sure it’s just one use... the toner ink hardens after about 3 hours or about 15 hours in the stamp pad casing. :)

    Are the foam pads only a one day use then? I try to be environmentally friendly. That would be waste of plastic and tone ink?.

    Do you have to foil right away or can you allow to dry on the cards before foiling? Also, How long were you able to use one ink application before it dried up and had to re-ink? Thank you

    Thanks for a very informative video. It helps knowing the issues of 'stickier' ink, and the coverage are there, and how to correct them. I would love to foil more! I love the bright and shiney! This product does give us more personalized creativity!. Question: do you need to use the Heidi swap laminater?

    • @simon.hurley
      @simon.hurley  Před 4 lety

      You can definitely use a regular laminator too! Heidi sent over the Minc and I do have to say that the coverage of foil seems to be a bit more even. :)
