Ms. Dyhesha Reid, I love your classroom!! Although I don't have any kids at any age, your video takes me back to when I was in elementary special education from 1978 to 1980 with my favorite teacher (my blonde teacher crush back then). That was when I was in 3rd and 4th grades those years. I was terrible at reading. I was good at language arts (English and Spanish). Yes, I have been through IEP's from 3rd grade until 12th grade. I went to college and should have studied education. With my favorite special education teacher, I was in a classroom of no more than 5 students, including myself. I was nicer than the other students. One primarily nonverbal student I knew was super aggressive towards her. I wish CZcams would have existed in the late 1970's and early 1980's.

Thank you Miss Reid for the video. I am also using the video for a Literacy Observation assignment. What was the curriculum used for students in rows 1-3, and what was the curriculum used for the 2 students at the kidney table with the red reader books? Thank you for your help!

One last question Miss Reid, did the two students at the kidney table have to read a short story from the red readers and then show comprehension by recalling and writing words from the story? Thank you Miss Reid!

Decoding, fluency, and vocabulary skills are key to reading comprehension. Basic on their reading learning level I had to created a lesson basic on what students will be able read and comprehend. Being able to connect ideas within and between sentences helps students to understand the whole text. Reading aloud and talking about experiences can help students build reading skills as well.
