    I'm almost 16 and am an IEP student with Autism. Even though I plan to work in the field of Web Development, I volunteer, working with kids between PreK and Elementary at my church. What an excellent teacher! God bless your heart.

    Awesome job Mrs. Kelley! I am currently contemplating a degree in special education. I feel that everyone can learn and should have the same opportunity to be spectacular! I am very inspired by your video and your passion. I even want to learn sign language after watching your video. :) Please continue to share your gift with everyone and continue to capture the hearts of your students. They will never forget you. You are a true inspiration. May God continue to Bless you!

When I was in kindergarten, I was in PM kindergarten, but I did not spend the morning at home watching Nick Jr. 😁 I spent the morning in a special needs room and I remember my teacher and my classmates in the room going over the rules and the date. Oh yeah, and I loved Starfall! :)

    Do you have a math curriculum you follow? Also....do you teach all of your math groups and have the para professional work with students on independent practice or does she teach the same group daily? My classroom seems very similar to yours in terms of range of abilities and I am looking for new ways of doing things. Thanks!

    • @AshleyKelley14
      @AshleyKelley14  Před 7 lety +7

      Natasha Boysal i actually don't have a math curriculum which makes planning difficult. But I put my students in ability groups and plan according to their goals and skills. I typically plan the same lesson that is scaffolded to each group. I teach one group and then have my paras teach the other groups. I have worked with them extensively on how to teach and I monitor through out each lesson. Once I get my group working independently or on an activity I walk around to the other groups and see how things are going. That's usually when I will model for my paras too. It's taken a while for our team to get the hang out it and it's a team effort. I'm the coach and they are my players. We work together for the same goal and learn from one another.
      A math curriculum I have used in the past at a previous district was called Equals and it was amazing. I pull some old materials from that curriculum that I saved. It sometimes help give direction and guidance when I'm planning off just standards.
      I hope this helps a little bit. I'm like you and love to find new ways to teach and grow! Best of luck to you.

    • @AshleyKelley14
      @AshleyKelley14  Před 7 lety +2

      Hi Jeka, Thanks for your questions. Finishing tasks was not a big problem because of the way our classroom was set up. Homework was turned in more towards the end of the year when I would send home a homework packet of what we were going over that week in class. We didn't have a separate curriculum, we used the general education curriculum and modified to meet each student's needs.

    Do you have any tips for people who want to go into the field of special ed teaching? I'm hoping to become one myself once I get out of college.

      Hi Mike! That's great news about your pursuit of Special Education. It's a high need field. My advice would be to get in as many different classrooms and grade levels as you can. Intern to see where your heart lies. When you actually step into the classrooms you are able to see where you're strengths flourish. I thought I wanted to be a 3rd grader general education teacher. I couldn't see myself teaching that grade level now.
