We bought the 2021.5 Atlas SEL. We love the ride and quiet ride but the space in the third row is awesome. It was the deciding factor for us. No one wants to squeeze three in the back of a crossover. If you buy one thinking you will seat 8, you’ll regret not buying a minivan. The most pleasant thing is we are averaging 24-25 on the highway. That’s about what we were getting on our Highlander. One last thing, I appreciate a good infotainment system that doesn’t look like an iPad attached to the dash. For me, I like what VW has done.

Just bought a used 2021 and I'm also seeing better than advertised mileage. Granted, I live in MT and my city driving is very different than what I would be getting in LA or any big metropolitan city. So I'm usually averaging around 21 in town. The biggest thing for me is comfort. I love how this thing drives. The steering caught me off guard at first but I've acclimated to it. It's not numb, it's just very light. If you put it in sport mode, your steering will tighten up a bit.
From a used car perspective, there are two problems I've had, but I'm still under warranty so I'm not worried. 1) I have a bad shock (easy fix) and 2) The mode selector is dying. Getting them both taken care of next week.
Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. Very comfortable. Lots of room. Good power and power delivery.

I own that exact vehicle. The “Estimated fuel economy “ is drastically off from what I average. I recently took a 300mile round trip, all highway, with resetting the computer at fill up and got 31mpg for the trip, that includes 140 miles at 80+mph. In town, the estimate isn’t far off.
I love the light steering wheel. It takes little effort to turn and had a lot of functionality with the infotainment of the vehicle.
Something that you didn’t show was the 360 degree cameras that are really helpful when parking, or the park assist for parallel parking.
There are a lot more plus’s to the Atlas than minuses.

I actually prefer that there are only 2 seats in the 3rd row because they are full sized seats, while a lot in this class have 3 seats, but the middle is generally useless and isn't even safe to ride in because you have seatbelt overlap and it shares airspace with the other seats.

@@Seeker0fTruth I did. It was actually narrowed down between the Atlas and Explorer. Ultimately the Atlas used the space better and felt bigger inside. An adult could not sit comfortably in the third row of the explorer when you could with Atlas, it was hard to access third row in explorer and my stroller couldn’t fit in the explorer trunk with third row up without removing the wheels so atlas won hands down.

I chose this over a telluride. I have a 2018 and I absolutely love it. The look of this car flows from front to back. The telluride looks like two different cars put together. As far as gas mileage goes, I get about 420 miles per tank. I drive 65mph on the freeway and never force the car off the line. I noticed that this makes a huge difference in fuel efficiency. When I drove 75 mph I would only get 350 to the the tank.

Ours has been really good in many ways. We like the interior, in sport mode its a punchy motor, MPG is 21 on the highway which isn't terrible for such a big vehicle. We like the ride a lot. The third row is 2 but VW was just being realistic. They have the most 3rd row space of the competition but don't arbitrarily throw in a mid seat seat belt that no one could realistically sit in. All those seat belts do in the competition is make the seats uncomfortable for the 2 people that can actually fit.
We don't like the problems we have had. 2 weeks in we had the sway bars an evaporative pump replaced. We then had pano roof water leak that took months (30 days one of the times alone) to fix. They ended up replacing the whole thing and now it doesn't leak. Also, it throws random codes that won't activate the CEL but will cause the remote start to not work. I have a scanner and clear the code since I live so far from the dealer. Its a fuel management sensor.

Regarding the gas mileage, noted. Looking at the relative difference of about 4mpg (a very aggressive difference), looking at the acquisition cost of comparably equipped MDX, Highlander etc., what is the ROI on the gas mileage difference, even at 4 mpg? If there is a 5k difference in acquisition cost the ROI to recoup the delta is very long, over a lot of miles.

  • @ihop4no14

    Thanks for the review!
I test drove one and had similar findings.
    Cons:
    1. I found the interior very Meh! It had white seats which I liked - I'm so sick of black seats! But there was no contrast. EVERYTHING was white. How about white seats with black trim? White doors with black trim would up the wow factor.
    2. The steering did feel "off". It seemed "sloppy".
    3. My test drive was the 6 cylinder and if I curled my toes it took off! This thing was almost TOO eager to engage, which took me by surprise.
    4. I could swipe my foot to OPEN the rear hatch hands-free, but swiping to CLOSE it didn't work.
    5. The SE had heated seats but no heated steering wheel? What the %S(!??
    Pros:
    1. Wireless Android Auto & Apple Carplay!!!! YESSSSS!!!!!!
    2. The size. Very imposing.
    3. Mine was the Tourmaline Blue Metallic with gloss black rims. Looked very sweet!
    4. The ride was nice.
In the end I decided against it. I think adding some nicer interior materials, ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel & the ability to CLOSE the rear hatch hands-free would have changed my mind.

Dont get me wrong the telluride has a lot more bells and whistles with features but like the over all simplicity with vw interior. I mean they could always update the interior in the future models. Like the looks of the atlas with r line package. Didnt like the look of a lot of plastic exterior pieces on the telluride. My biggest complaint so far with our new Atlas is that the brakes feel I don’t know how to describe it but they’re different . Grippy maybe ? I had a Jeep before and although the Atlas is a far superior car than my Jeep overall , I did enjoy the brakes in my Jeep more … the feel and functionality of the brakes were better . In the atlas I have to prep myself for a stop way in advance because it takes time to come to a complete stop and if it’s even slightly sudden there a straining weighted feel to the brake . However, the Pros definitely outweigh the cons and I’m enjoying the vehicle as our new family car . My sons rear facing seat has plenty of room and space so , the car seat isn’t pushing the seats very far forward like they did in my Jeep .
I was hesitant to switch over to the Volkswagen brand in general because of the whole mileage and engine scandal many years ago. But , the quality is great and the features you get for the price is amazing against other competitors.
My only worry is any maintenance issues arising or an accident, because parts and maintenance in general will fairly expensive .

I just got my SE and that was the reason I did. 3rd row was the most spacious and also had more room getting in. There's a hand lever that is easy to pull on and folds the 2nd row seat not only forward, but with a little tug, the entire seat can be shifted forward. 2nd row seating legroom is so generous that you can give plenty of room 3rd low legs.

Most others are 25-28. The Grand Cherokee L with a V8 and significantly more power even ties it at 22mpg hwy

Atlas is the best SUV for the price especially the handling,it drives like a Audi SUV it’s very obvious this Guy is “paid” to be bias, you could corner on snake road & hills & feel solid to the road as if on train tracks, the steering wheel is so smooth thatyou can turn it with a pinky finger.

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  Před 2 lety

Lol…I don’t get paid by anyone nor do I pay anybody.
In what way is it the best? It’s underpowered and not efficient. The only thing it really has going for it is the space. It’s got good ride quality, not a stand out though. Turning the wheel with your pinky is not Audi-like. It makes it feels less solid and flimsy. Too light and extremely vague, compared to competition. It’s got a fairly simple interior, albeit somewhat basic feeling compared to some. I’ve driven basically every other 3 row competitor and there are certainly better options. The Atlas is fine, but far from best for its price.

    • @hamitfusha710
      @hamitfusha710 Před 2 lety +1

The steering wheel is light to turn but it won’t move or budge or bounce on it’s own once you get used to it you will love it, the 3 rd row fits 6ft 2 in person’s easily , driving on hills and cornering is 2 to none for the price , I checked out all the Asian cars in the same price they don’t corner anything nearly as good , the interiors are “extremely” flimsy, cheap 1980’s cheap looking will bend on light touches and feel like falling off completely junk, and cannot handle cornering like the Atlas , for these reasons it’s the best , maybe for economical purposes they are better. The only thing I hate about the Atlas is a weird smell ( regardless if you just changed the cabin filter) when you put on the heating or AC system VW cannot find this issue a solution.
