I'm a Zimbabwean but I support owamie on this one it's devastating how the justice system is operating in both my country and SA especially SA on the death penalty... There is a couple from ZIM who killed the wife's younger sister's child and ran to SA.. Eventually there were caught and kept in the SA jail and to my disappointment the SA gvt refused to extradit them claiming that the Zim gvt should first send some documents assuring that they are not going to face capital punishment IMAGINE!!! Protecting someone who killed a 4 year old and attempted on the 8 year old.. And on the other hand the Zim guys were delaying sending the Undertaking document to extradit them.. Had the document delayed any further the couple would have walked Scott free... Hayii aaah it's hard

As someone who is half Botswana & half South African and literally grew up between both countries. I can tell you that altough Zims are there in Bots & some of them commit crime. The police & immigration officials there dont play. The prob with South Africa is corruption. I know a guy from Zim who works at home affairs guys. HOW can a foreigner work for a Dept like HA with all our important & sensetive docs?

Also it’s not xenophobic to demand firmer controls of borders who is entering or leaving the country.
However with the level of corruption in the legal system and with immigration posts I don’t see this issue changing anytime soon.
With Malema instead of just willy nilly saying borders must be open, he should be advocating for LEGAL migration.

Let's condemn all criminals activities in both angles, if a crime committed by none south African even the cats will be out on the streets talking one word illegal foreigners and all sorts of names. The problem with this kind of narrative is that unfortunately it does brew Xenophobia. Crime is crime whether its a Zimbabwean or not, South Africa needs to sort out its justice system across the board. You will not publicise the crimes committed by one local to the other in SA but when its a foreigner it makes news. Criminal is a criminal question your justice system. How come they commit crime but not in their own home country? Thats a question for introspection. In Zimbabwe police shoot to kill criminals, there are no gangs, no one would try that stuff in Zimbabwe. So its a governance issue not whether someone is Zimbabwean or not, they are a criminal period. Currently you court cases for AKA and Senzo Meyiwa dragging for years, decades even when its clear for everyone to see who killed the victims. Bekhi Cele is well known gangster whose system feeds criminals with weapons, all this is known and yet you are not willing see that part. Im really sorry for this particular incident and many other crimes that may have been committed by Zimbabweans as a fellow Zimbabwean. But the real issue is with the South African justice system, this problem is internal.

The stereotyping of people,the over generalization of certain groups of people is dangerous. Every country has issues hiding behind others won’t solve problems we need to take ownership.
The horse before the cart? I don't think the death sentence will stop illegal foreigners from coming here and committing crime. If the death sentence is brought back it will be applied mostly on documented persons, some of whom will probably be wrongly convicted. This problem can be alleviated by tightening the borders and the justice system but in a state where it takes 5 years to fix a pothole I doubt that such big issues will be tackled speedily. An improved economy(people having jobs) and a good justice system(people getting quickly convicted when they commit crime) will reduce such crimes. In this country by the time a criminal is convicted they have probably commited many other crimes successfully before they get caught on the tenth one.
