    A quick little video on my new old car. It may beater 80s Toyota, but I can't deny I love this car. To many it is not perfect or desirable, but anyone who owns one can't help but have fun driving it with its retro vibes.
    Video and music by Josh Greenwalt
    Music inspired by Running In The 90's (of course)
    Special thanks to Eva for helping film

    An alternate version of me. I bought a red '85 Celica GT-S Liftback with a 5-speed manual for $1650 five years ago. I used it my senior year of high school and my first four years of college as a daily driver. Now I have a '99 LS400, but still have the Celica. It has faded red paint that can look somewhat pink and on the roof is down to the clearcoat. Completely stock except for Enkei 92 wheels (Original production ones from the 80s or 90s, not the re-introduced ones and they were already on the car). Also a bad tear on the driver's seat left side bolster. But otherwise the interior is very clean. By the way, if you're not familiar with the 3rd gen Celica that I have it is RWD so that's something to consider. 22R-E engine is not that befitting of a sports car and it's really slow, but if you're in the canyons it's alright and it actually has a nice sound to it in my opinion. Definitely get the GT-S though so you get the independent rear suspension. 4-wheel discs, power windows, power sunroof, power mirrors, 8-way adjustable manual seats, cruise control, power steering. The necessities in my opinion. And most importantly, the fender flares so you have some nice meaty wheels and tires on there and it gives a pretty badass look that you don't get with the GT or ST Celica.
    I love the look of the video, nice camera work. Also, this is really weird considering the similarity between our cars, but I literally have in my sight I think the exact same TV. Wood trim around the screen, two knobs vertically stacked with the black rectangle below. It's a Hitachi TV. If it is not the same TV, it is extremely similar. I'm in general very much into everything vintage from cars, watches, clocks, furniture, houses, electronics, music, fashion, film photography (Currently don't partake in this, but love how it looks), you name it. Also, I am from Los Angeles and always wanted to move to Washington (Love the weather, hate sunny weather) and cheaper home prices there. And also no smog and CARB so you can actually import your 25-year old cars without spending thousands of dollars more to make it compliant. Most likely will never move there because my family is here and my girlfriend's family is here and she herself would hate the weather. But yeah, pretty interesting stumbling upon this video because we seem similar.

    • @RetraCast
      @RetraCast  Před 4 lety

      Dang that is really crazy. Yeah I love the car and have considered looking for older gen Celica’s but there aren’t really in the area right now and I can’t part with mine now. But also if I got another car it would have to be different enough haha. I plan on doing some more Celica (teamed with other cars) videos in more of a cinematic race style so look out for that too.
      As for the tv, yes it is hitachi and maybe the same one?? It works and was my roommate and I’s only tv last year but hasn’t gotten as much use since we got a newer one for the living room. I’m super into vintage stuff and that’s kind of the point of this channel. I feel like my filming skills are improving my leaps and bounds each video but haven’t had as much time to film lately. But stuff is coming I swear so look out for it if you’re interested. It’ll be worth the wait.

    3 months ago I bought one , a red gt liftback with the 1.6lt (130bhp) , as a first car. The guy who was selling it was the first owner and it has 210000km on the clock (~120000miles) . Honestly it is a great car considering its age. Not a lot of power but it has torque. It has a lot of trunk space , and good visibility , but the rear sits are for kids only..

    I ADORE my '89 ST-162 (one owner garaged it's whole life, never went without seat covers...she's pretty cherry minus door dings and scratches from shopping carts), bone-stock unmolested...and it gets eyeball everytime I drive it and provided I behave myself I get righteous MPG....in "grandma mode" (when I drive like a little old lady) I can average 38-40~MPG Highway (factory rated at 30 MPG highway) and I can squeeze about 20 MPG in-city driving outta it.
    When I drive it in fun-mode, MPG does suffer, but it's spritely in nature, it's a very much "slow-car-fast", it corners better than it has ANY business doing. It's quick off the line due to short-legs in the gearbox..
    I love the aesthetic appeal of the car, it has an adorable face when the headlights are up...and just OOZES that 80's-cool vibe, sure it's "Wrong-wheel-drive" and a total pain to work on, but I love it...and I'd never trade it for anything
    My AE86 (yuuup got one of those too) is a long-term project car, that I fall more and more in love with the more I work on it.

  • @truealchiemist
    @truealchiemist Před 4 lety +1

    Hello new Celica owner. I am HUGE into 4th Gen Celica. You do not have a ST162. You have a ST161. The ST162 came with either a 3s-fe or 3s-ge engine, you have a 2se engine. Most of the time, the power steering leaks from the hoses. One from any other FWD Celica from 1986-1999 will fit.
    I notice you were driving with your high beams on. Those old 4x6 headlights really don't push much light. I would suggest getting a H4 conversion housing and getting some good bulbs. Or even go LED though some of them look funky.
    If you ever have any questions, feel free to ask.

    Cool video. You did a great job on presentation and execution.
    Just wanted you let you know though that the 4th gen Celica you have there is not an ST162, it's an ST161. (the reason for that being, in 1986 only the GTS with the 3SGE was known to be an ST162) Your car, the ST161 has a motor known as the 2selc. (Which is a 8 valve 2.0 inline 4 SOHC engine producing 97 horsepower from the factory) in 1987 to 1989 both the GT and GTS were known as ST162, the GT now having the 3SFE (which has an economical head and lower compression than the 3SGE producing 116 HP)
