    He's only an under-achiever because he had the potential to go a lot farther and longer than he did. Bowe was still a great fighter. I remember watching him and Holyfield about kill each other when I was a kid. Some of the best fights in my lifetime.

    I've never seen a big man like Bowe fight as well on the inside as on the outside. Bowe had a phenomenal jab and power to boot ,a real chin ,and fighting heart. He got the better of Evander when he fought Evander inside. The real shame is ,Bowe was his own worst enemy ,if he keep his mouth closed instead of eating everything in his path he would be champ as long as he wanted ,very few hwts had his natural abilities. Perhaps we will never know who wins in a Lewis/Bowe fight but I know it would be a barn burner. Still the most under rated champ ever.

  • @jasona9
    @jasona9 Před 9 lety +2

    I can't believe that Riddick Bowe maintains that it was Lennox Lewis that ducked him. I believe in a thing called "common sense ". I have NEVER heard of a number one contender ducking a champion. Riddick Bowe was great when he was in shape; however he was LUCKY to suffer only one defeat. He never fought Lennox. He never fought Tyson. Golota could not resist hitting him low. Evander had Hepatitis A the third time they fought. Rock Newman 'handpicked' his opponents. Besides Lewis and Tyson, Bowe never fought Razor Ruddock, Tommy Morrison, Michael Moorer, Ray Mercer, Oliver McCall, or Tony Tucker. He looked FANTASTIC the night he beat Evander and took his title, but after that he regressed. Too bad. He was good, but could have been really, really GREAT!

    • @jasona9
      @jasona9 Před 8 lety +3

      wussup What point are you trying to make? Bowe should have fought Lewis in 1993 for his first defense. Bowe and Newman kept that fight from happening. The Lewis vs. Holyfield draw? That is irrelevant to my original post, but the judges were wrong. Look at the punch stats. I know Bowe beat Holyfield twice, but for their third fight Evander had Hepatitis A...he was NOT at this best. What does this have to do with Bowe and Newman avoiding Lewis? Bowe looked great for Holyfield vs. Bowe 1. That was his signature fight, then he regressed. He was only the lineal champion for one year. Riddick picked the wrong manager and wasted his career.

    • @jasona9
      @jasona9 Před 8 lety +3

      wussup I read that a long time ago. It reads that Rock Newman and Riddick Bowe signed a "Letter of Intent" to fight Lennox Lewis as their FIRST title defense. They got the title and backed out....breaking their word, breaking the agreement. You wrote a "Bigger Money Fight"? Bowe vs. Lewis in 1993 was a guaranteed 32M Purse! That was HUGE money in 1993. Lewis' management wanted a 75/25 Split, that is 75% for Bowe and 25% for Lewis as challenger. Rock Newman refused and set a fight with a washed-up Michael Dokes. Foreman had no desire to fight Bowe or Lewis...Big George wanted to fight smaller heavyweights that he could out-muscle like Holyfield and Moorer.

    There is no good reason for believing that Bowe would have lost against Lewis. Fans of Lewis will claim that he would have won, but they never have a good reason for believing so. Technically, Bowe had more to offer as a fighter. He had a better chin, better punching power, good jab, he can fight in the inside, and he got up when he was knocked down (unlike Lewis). The only thing Lewis had over Bowe was that he was bigger, and that he had better management.

    Anyone can use your scattershot logic: A 1996 Golota won 12 out 16 rounds against Bowe. A 1997 Golota got his skull pounded in less than 2 minutes when he fought Lewis. I guess the 28 year-old Golota was much much better than the 29 year-old version. Holyfield was 33 when he fought Lewis the second time and 41 when he fought Toney. So it's nonsense when you say Lewis should have been able "to knock out the old man like Toney did." Holyfield had already lost six times before he fought Toney.

He was in the decline at that point, Bowe was already washed up when he fought Evander for the third time. So he washed up when he fought Galota, so that's not a good reason. Lennox beats Bowe 7 or 8 times in 10. Of course a fighter of Bowe's power would have a chance if he connects with Lewis chin. To say Lewis fought Holyfield twice and only beat him once is stupid. Lewis beat Holyfield twice on points comfortably. Ignore the judges verdict in that first fight which was crooked.

    Bowe is the most criticized and hated heavyweight champ of his era - and understandably so. Hindsight is 20/20. He'll be the first to tell you that. A very complacent champion and a very lazy champion. Make no mistake though, Bowe had the most talent out of the lot of 90's heavyweights. And he would have beaten Lewis. He was the best match-up for Lewis and his jab and reach would have been ineffective against Bowe.

    • @boxerwayne6660
      @boxerwayne6660 Před 9 lety +4

      FactOverFiction After bowe saw lewis demolishing ruddock whom bowe avoided he decided to dicth fighting lewis the same thing he did to ruddock. Even evander stated that bowe opted to fight him 3 times same as tyson in order to avoid fighting lewis. Lewis wanted to fight bowe but bowe kept running away and avoiding the fight. Now that there is a display of Lewis's superiority and inferiority over bowe otherwise bowe would have been straight up and made the deal to take on lewis.

    • @factoverfiction4699
      @factoverfiction4699 Před 9 lety +2

      That's simply not true man. Those statements are only half-truths and hearsay. I'm not gonna acknowledge the hearsay because I can bring up so stuff that was said about Lewis just like you can bring stuff that was said about Bowe. All I know is that Bowe wanted to fight Bowe - there's a NY Times article floating around dated post Bowe-Holyfield 1 quoting Bowe that he wanted Lewis. But Lewis wanted to much in the deal and it fell through. To have the belief that a pro boxer, the heavyweight champ of the world at that, spent his career ducking a guy because he was afraid of him kills the argument before it begins.

    • @boxerwayne6660
      @boxerwayne6660 Před 9 lety +2

      FactOverFiction Its on youtube a clip by Evander Holyfield stating the facts on why bowe and tyson opted to fight holyfield rather than lewis. Bowe fought holyfield 3 times and tyson fought holyfield twice. Evander went on to say that he is grateful that those two fighters (Bowe and tyson) gave him the opportunity to fight for the title rather than fighting Lewis and in return he is happy to give lewis the chance to fight him due to the other two fighters being too scared to fight a bigger opponent. Obviously tyson and bowe wanted a smaller person. After lewis pounded ruddock in the earlier rounds whom tyson fought twice guess what happened? Tyson ducked lewis thats exactly what happened! and guess what happened to bowe who did not want to fight ruddock but opted for a drug addict michael dokes. Bowe kept ducking lewis especially after lewis dropped ruddock whom bowe refused to fight. Now your ass keeps getting schooled. why would Bowe throw his belt in the bin when lewis really wanted to fight him? theres only one answer to that and that is "Bowe was scared" of losing to lewis. You can keep talking crap here but that wont change the fact that bowe threw away the belt because he was scared, nothing but plain scared. Only fools with no brain like yourself will not get that.

    • @factoverfiction4699

      Didn't realize I was dealing with a moron. So Bowe fought drug addicted Dokes and dropped him while Oliver McCall fought you're hero Lennox Lewis twice while on PCP and dropped him once and got a 'TKO' the other time because he was laughing in Lewis' face while he was hitting him. Sure, let's listen to the biased opinion of a drug upped overrated asshole on why the guy who he personally couldn't beat is better than a boxer that Ko'd him twice.GTFOH, you simple minded buffoon. Tyson fought dudes just as big as Lewis and Lewis ducked Bowe in the beginning. You obviously don't even realize that they did fight in the Olympics and Lewis got lucky on a questionable TKO call. You're obviously not gonna change you're Forrest Gump IQ having mind about you're birdbrain point of view on this matter and I'm not changing my informed opinion on the situation either. So stop messaging me and go back to blowing dudes through the glory hole of a truck stop bathroom. Bitch.

      FactOverFiction Sorry mate..Lewis would have nailed Bowe to a post like he nailed Ruddock, Golota, Rahman&Tommy Morrison when he was focused and he would have been really focused after Bowe's insults..Lewis had lapses like all fighters, but when he was focused he was the man..Bowe was all talk, and talk is cheap..why was Lewis an undisputed champion Hall of Famer and Bowe a flash in the pan....because Lewis was far better..Lewis progressed, Bowe regressed... end of..
      Bowe was outboxed by Golota who had some form of mental health issue at the time and was disqualified for continued low hitting..Golota had Bowe on the canvas, Bowe would have lost that fight, Golota was beating the shit out of him..Lewis pulverised Golota in one round.
      Holyfield who was a bumped up cruiser also beat him once..Bowe never fought Razor Ruddock or Tommy Morrison who both had the tools to beat him..Lewis hammered Ruddock in the same time it takes a kettle to boil..and Morrison didn't fare much better.
      Bowe was a loudmouth who unlike the other loudmouth he seemed intent on emulating, Muhammad Ali, he lacked application&consistency......beat Lewis...Lewis on a bad day would have enough to beat Bowe..on a good day he would have hammered him..

    I was just pointing out your mistakes. The fact is you have no credible reason for thinking that Lennox Lewis would beat Bowe. The only reason you think that is because you're a Lennox Lewis fan. Just because Bowe's handlers at the time made him give up the championship and not fight Lewis, does not automatically mean that Bowe would have lost against him, if they fought. If you don't want discussion, then don't post comments.

Everyone you listed that Lewis beat was already washed up and beaten before he got to them. Again; Bowe beat Holyfield convincingly, twice; in his PRIME. When Bowe fought Golota; he had already been in 3 wars with Holyfield and was already washed up. He also fought an undefeated Golota, unlike Lewis who fought him washed up.

    Do you know how to use the REPLY button? (and you're trying to claim that I'm ignorant?). The irony. I agree his manager Rock Newman, like you; had very little knowledge about boxing and protected Bowe against Lewis. That doesn't mean that Lewis would have won. Just because Lewis was bigger; does not mean he automatically would have won. Bowe had a better chin, he was a better inside fighter and he also had a good jab and can fight going in as well as going out.

  • @MysteryGameGeEk3000
    @MysteryGameGeEk3000 Před 11 lety

    It has nothing to do with admiration. Again, what makes you believe that he would have lost against Lewis? There is no good reason technically, Lewis also fought bumbs his whole career and never fought anybody he didn't have an edge over. You are just saying it because you like the guy, we'll, that has nothing to do with boxing. If he was so clumsy and slow, then how did he beat Holyfield? (in his prime, unlike Lewis). You can't just say that he would have won against Bowe because you like him.

  • @MysteryGameGeEk3000
    @MysteryGameGeEk3000 Před 11 lety +1

    Bowe was washed up in the third fight with Holyfield. You can just look at their first match together and see the difference in the third fight, and he still knocked out Holyfield; when Lewis couldn't. Lewis also fought a Holyfield who was in the decline. You know you don't have any good reason for thinking Bowe would have lost.

  • @MysteryGameGeEk3000
    @MysteryGameGeEk3000 Před 11 lety

I never said "PRIME Golota" so you're not even listening. I said UNDEFEATED Golota and Bowe was already washed up at that point, but you're just going to ignore that. Golota was in shape and hungry for the title at that point (your Golota argument is pathetic, really). Again you have no good reason for thinking that Lewsi would beat Bowe.

    Are you crazy? That was an amateur bout. Means nothing when both fighters are still learning, Pro and Amateur are completely different things. Golota? a washed up Tyson beat Golota in three rounds. Bowe also fought Golota when Bowe was in the decline, he already been in 3 wars with Holyfield before he fought Galota.

    Lewis is a highly respected ATG with a $150m net worth whilst Bowe hangs around the big fights hustling fans for $20 an autograph. BUM!

      +rick rich Wow, in two comments you've gone from xenophobia towards the British to xenophobia on a global scale. Generally though you just come across as very insecure about your country. But I agree, Bowe was no bum and on his day would've have been a match for any heavyweight. Unfortunately, he lacked dedication to back up the talent.

    I ain't talking about Tyson himself. And yes Styles do make fights.Lewis couldn't beat Oliver.He had Huge problems whit Bruno.Got a gift victory over Mercer.And most defenetlty didn't deserve a win in the second Holy fight.

    Well, you don't know that because it never happened. Lewis won in 88 against Bowe. Lewis cherry picked just like Tyson, Foreman, and Bowe did. Bowe got his ass kicked twice by Gollota because styles make fights. Lewis was just as gifted but his career is better because he was smarter in his fights. Oh, and whose fault was it that Tyson went to prison? Lennox Lewis? Evander Holyfield? Tyson is the worst example of champion.

    The guy beat Holyfield twice, way more convincingly then Lennox ever did and he fought Evander when he was in his prime. They never wanted to give Bowe the credit and said that Holyfield had heart problems in the third fight which was a bunch of garbage (Bowe didn't bring in pay per views, so they didn't want him as champ). Lennox is lucky he never fought Bowe, because Bowe would have done a lot worse to Lennox then Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman did to him, (Bowe never got knocked out).

      Lewis fought everyone who was anyone in the heavyweight division except Bowe.
      And beat them all.
