    Two really good hockey trades. Colorado just got a lot better for now and the future. Vegas hasn't even begun to make their team better but they will by the deadline. I expect them to be the western finalists just like Florida is going to be the eastern finalists. Should be one heck of a playoffs this year.

    The trade makes sense for all parties involved. I'm a Sabres fan, I would have loved to see Mittelstadt stay and sign a long-term contract but I'm glad we got value for him and there are plenty of prospects in the pipeline behind him. Honestly I think the trade is good for both the organizations and the players. Mittelstadt gets to go to a good productive play-off team with experienced players around him. I agree with Colorado's GM that Mittelstadt could reach a new level (80-90 pt season) now that he's on a winning team with the right players around him. Byram gets to go to a developing team where he will get more ice time and the opportunity to take on a bigger role.
    Sean Walker makes sense for Colorado, productive backfill for Byram's position and he will be cheaper to re-sign. By eating Johansen's salary, Philadelphia basically got a paid a 1st round pick for a player that was worth a 2nd round pick. If you have the money, that's a good bargain for Philly's GM!

    Mitts has been noticeably stronger on the puck this season, specifically his board play and how he uses his body to shield off the defender and protect the puck. I think his career is now on a decent trajectory and I wish him the best in Colorado. Also think Byram still has upside, possibly a late bloomer candidate.

      The Habs have 15 picks in the first three rounds over the next 3 drafts, they have 31 overall picks in those three drafts. They don't t need picks, they need to use those and add them to packages to get middle six NHL players or 23 or 24 year old prospects to add to the young core. Maybe they give Allen and a 3rd round (Colorado has no 2nd or 3rd this year) for a young b-level prospect.

    • @THEGDB
      @THEGDB Před 2 měsíci

      @stevestreet4402 Montreal seems to have lots of prospects who project to be middle 6 forwards , not many that project to top line players , beck , Roy, Florian, mesar , all look like future nhl guys but not top Liners.but I do agree Montreal does not need picks at all , they will be trading pics . I would of liked Montreal to go after middlestat but I have a feeling he wants an big contract over 8 mil per .

    • @stevestreet4402
      @stevestreet4402 Před 2 měsíci

      @@THEGDBtrue but they will be getting another draft lottery pick this year and have about 25 million to play with in free agency. Better chance at landing a top 6 winger on a contract you control that way then through a trade. Without giving up top picks and top prospects you don't get top 6 wingers or centers back. With the young group they have on D and add Mailloux, Hutson, and Rienbacher over the next three seasons and they have too many back there, so package guys like Harris or Barron this year and some mid round picks to get the 27 to 33 year old bottom 6 players to replace the Armias and Pearson's of the team to get them through a few seasons while the guys like Beck and Roy become more regular NHL players. It's just not good asset management to use 31 picks and then have nowhere for them to play, you can only have 50 NHL contracts and 24 are on the Habs and 26 are in Laval so eventually you lose those drafted players to Europe for nothing. Better to trade some of those picks to fill out the bottom of the roster while leaving enough spots for the kids to develop. What are the odds one of the 6 picks they have between round 5 and 7 helps them anytime soon as?

Bo has huge potential but scary concussion history,& just hasnt been very consistent this year. Yes opportunity is part of it,& I hope,& expect he will do very good in Buffalo.
    But as much as I respect Dallas,Nashville,& WPG-I don't think any of those teams are as good as Edmonton,Vegas,your Canucks-maybe even LA. Especially after Vegas got Mantha,Edmonton got Henrique,& u guys already got Lindholm.We have a very good chance to make WCF-then who knows? Sabres fan here. It’s easy to pick on Buffalo, but I don’t like this trade either. In Byram, the Sabres are getting more of what they already have. An average size, left shot defenseman, that’s decent offensively, but gives up plenty of high risk chances. If we had to trade Mitts, I would have rather seen Rasmussen Anderson, David Jiricek, or even Braden Schneider, come back.
    Why the haste to trade Mitts anyways? Buffalo could afford to keep him for a few more years while our forward prospects matured. Pure speculation on my part, but I wonder if GMKA is being asked to operate with an internal budget below the salary cap.
    Anyways, a step back for a program that can hardly afford one right now.

      Adams stated that a lot of the big names in trade talks have Buffalo on their no trade list. That being said Adams is smart for specifically signing developing players. Sure we want players that are good right NOW, but if you can continue developing young players into elite talent, that is really what will win the Sabres a Stanley Cup. Overpaying free agents has never worked for Buffalo.

    Just awful. Awful. Kevyn Adams is as bad a GM as there is in north american sports.
    You get a 22 year old concussion case who plays 20 minutes a night. The last things the Sabres need are to be younger and softer, and Adams just accomplished both. Any amateur could have moved Casey in the offseason for a much better return.
    Gonna be year 14 without the playoffs in Buffalo next season.
