    I always appreciate hearing different perspectives on this kind of decision making process. Even with admitted bias I'm not going to come in here telling you how you made the right decision, no question, etc. because as you say, it can come down to some pretty nuanced personal preferences, feelings, etc. There's no one-best-way if you're a pure enthusiast (vs. leaning toward an investor or collector where hard stats may make a decision more data-driven.....not knocking either leaning ftr).

      Very true. I consider myself a real enthusiast, but I am also a big fan of attention and money. I liked my Supra very much and it is one of those cars that had so many conflicting emotions that where associated non-car memories that it was almost comedic. I almost lost my finger but I also did my first valve steam seal job and rebuild on the engine. It got me a lot of friends but people annoyed me with auto comments. Then the money parts was cool because in life is not often you can raise a glass and say you doubled your money five-figures worth. Thanks, for your comments Richard, I also read them with your voice which makes them so much more fun.

    I'm sorry to hear about the finger accident, this is something it could happen to me many times and it's awful experience for someone who work on their own cars. I hope the finger is ok now. You have great cars, (best IMO). And after all I will miss your Supra videos because it was the Supra related video I first saw before I have subrcibed to the channel.

    Never owned or even driven a Supra but I think I would still have chosen to keep the NSX as well. It just has a special feel to it. I think for most people once you drive an NSX you are hooked!

    • @DriversTherapy
      @DriversTherapy  Před 2 lety +2

      Both are great cars in their own right but for me I love the simplicity and joy the NSX gives me when I drive it slow or fast.

      My dad bought a 98 Supra Turbo new from the dealership. Had it made to order. Was his dream car and he got it right before they stopped production. It is an awesome car. His was quick silver + manual. Was an absolute blast to be in. He sold it in 2017 because he moved back to Nigeria. Looking back on it, it probably should have bought the car from him but at that time I wanted to something of my own. I knew that if I bought it, it would never truly be mine. Or so I thought.
      Now, I've had a chance to be in a NSX. It felt amazing. Very low, the sensation of speed was immense, and the car looks the part.
      That being said I haven't driven either. So I can only speak from the eyes of a passenger. And I'm probably biased too, but I think I would keep the Supra. You already have a mid engine n/a car In the Cayman so imo the NSX feels slightly redundant. You mentioned that the Supra was your DD. That's not a trivial thing. You have a FUN, GT, DD. Now that the Supra is gone you basically have two cars that you are "special" that I'm assuming you don't drive often and both are more similar than dissimilar when compared to the Supra. To each is own but I want a front mid-engine car, a rear mid engine car, a rear engine car, etc. Likewise I want fwd, awd, rwd. I like to have one of each... But that's my personal preference.

    • @DriversTherapy
      @DriversTherapy  Před 2 lety

      @@iluvcakes19 First off, thank you for sharing that personal history with both cars. Your dad sounds like he has good taste in cars. I do appreciate your comment but let me go into detail more why I choose the Supra to go. First, GT4, not Cayman...huge difference. :) you are right about the mid-engine part but besides that the cars are totally different. I treat the GT4 as a weekend car. I don't daily it or park it. Just drive it and come home. A 125K car is still a lot of money for me to treat it otherwise. The NSX is easy and a joy to drive. I love working on it and driving it, but it is not a daily either. I live in Colorado so having a truck is a must and I just bought one, my wife has a Genesis sedan which we use often, and I have a Honda S800 coming in from the Netherlands next month. The next car I am adding is either a Gated 6- speed Ferrari 360 or a Raptor since I am starting to understand the whole truck hype. I think I just got tired of the Supra. I did 3 cross-country trips in it, daily-ed it, fixed so much and restored a lot and it just was not doing it for me anymore. It could also have been the transmission to be honest. Either way, I will probably get another one but this time manual and a NA car that was built to a turbo car so I can enjoy it and get a deal on it without worrying about it. Thank you for your comment, it sparked me to reply in detail back. Have a great day!

    Good video!
    I kept my first Supra for 12 years but got back into them recently.
    I personally choose the NSX and Supra over the Porsche because they complement each other. The Porsche is a good compromise and fits in the middle but I love the contrast of having both a Supra and NSX.

    I'm definitely the kind that would keep their car forever. Had my Integra for the last 13 years and it still puts a grin on my face when I drive it! I'm one of those guys would take the long way to my destination just to spend more time driving it 😛. The NSX is a car that just evokes a positive emotion just by looking at it. A truly special car! 😀

But I just can't get enough at looking at my supra, I just love the 90 aerodynamic styling, the dashboard, the headlights. I was thinking the same. If I ever have to choose, I would let go one of the japanese car simply to have different experience between one continent car to a different one. I'm biased towards NSX simply because it is easier to drive and easier to maintain.

    As a mechanic I have to say that Toyota makes great engines but they do not like to be opened up and a rebuild is usually never an option. Honda on the other hand makes engines that can be worked on and even rebuilt pretty easily compared to others so in the end I will always keep a Honda/Acura car over a Toyota.

    I garaged the 91 NSX for a year, and drove the Nissan 2020 GTR for the duration of a year. The GTR is truly a beast and fun to drive, but I returned to the NSX oldie and truly enjoyed the drive
    In a more overall visceral experience! Would take out the NSX for mountain roads over the beautiful GTR if given the choice! 👌

    I am enjoying these reflection videos. Like you, I am going to end up downsizing as well. It takes a certain level of maturity as an auto enthusiast to let go of a car that has been in stable for a 6, 10 years, or more to experience new cars and also to simplify ones life. I have had a S2000 CR for over 10 years and am strongly considering selling to fund the purchase of a 981 GT4. I bought it with 9K miles and now it has 28K miles. Although the CR will continue to appreciate in value and it is an awesome driving experience, I feel the GT4 981 is still early in its appreciation curve and somewhat attainable before Porsche goes fully electric on their Caymans. Plus I get to experience something totally new and awesome. It is easy to not let things you own go--the longer you keep a car the more challenging it is to let go. I actually picked up a 981S PDK a few months ago, and am really enjoying it. However, I can tell you that it is not an easy transition when you realize that parts and labor is not at the same rages as a Honda (one must not be afraid to try non-Honda cars :)) If I sell my CR, I will sell my 981S and find a 981 GTS Manual or better, a GT4 981. What I have come to realize is that the joy of driving for the sake of driving is much more rewarding than the responsibility of having a collectible car for a lifetime and getting too precious. When all is said and done, we only take our experiences with us, and all material things stay. So here is for maximizing our life experiences as auto enthusiasts to the max.

      Beautifully said. I also want to extend a genuine offer to help with any questions you may have about a GT4. Having owned it for a year now and reading a lot and doing my own work on it, there is some advice I think would go a long way for someone looking for one. Funny thing is, I keep looking at Ferrari 458s, but I am not sure if selling the GT4 will be a regret or not to get one. Either way, the GT4 is an amazing car but some key points to know about them. I love reading your comments by the way. Always insightful and encouraging.

      As an s2k and GT4 owner, do it! The s2k has the raw, go-kart feel but the GT4 is like an s2k on steroids. It just grips and gives you so much confidence. And the auto rev matching is so effing sick. I’ve always been a Honda guy (ex EG, DC2 owner) but damn if a Porsche GT car ain’t in the running for a car enthusiast’s dream car.

    Talk about celebrity the NSX is off the chain. I have a yellow 97 since 97. It still draws attention just taking it to the supermarket or church on Sunday, forget car events or major shows like when it was in the Atlanta International Auto Show this past March. Not sure the Supra is as big an icon outside the tuner community as the NSX is across the entire Automotive landscape in total . Just my opinion.

    • @DriversTherapy

      Oh your right. All demographics love the NSX. It’s the shape and the design. But the Supra has some hardcore fans. A really fun and unique experience with those level of fans.

      @hushg2000 Před rokem

      TK2k started because of the Supra Mk4, so I don’t know man. All types of folks from different cars came to see the show every year in Houston. And not to mention the big boys shops that came out of the Supra scene whom are known all across the world from tuners and non. I had my NSX for 6 years, loved it. But the supra modified like it was intended, it’s a whole different car. BPU doesn’t compare to an APU MK4 as far as the complete driver experience. It’s a rocket that never drops boost at full throttle … v160 for the experience. Automatic will not do it for a full mk4 experience imo
