    THANK YOU. This worked perfectly for my 10 years old Yamaha RX-V459. I replaced the condensator with 22nF, 630V, which was 0,20€ in local store... Before this "home made" fix I called service and they assumed the cost for fix somewhere between 50-70€...

    Thanks, this worked on my Yamaha 3800 series Surround Sound Receiver. $1 part from Jaycar and all OK now. Saved me $1500 for a new unit.

    Thank You so much! My RX-V459 has been working perfectly since 2007. It suddenly stopped turning on last week. I've now replaced that 0.10€ capacitor. And unit works again!

    I appreciate all your hard work, you saved me alot of time. I have a RX-V2600 which has a slightly more complicated PS, but the Flip Flop CCT is the same. I measured the .022uf which measured .088uf which is inline with your findings. Once I replaced the cap I tried powering up the Receiver with the PS board not fitted back into the receiver, but with wires connected, only to find the PS didn't work. I soon realised that the Earth Screw terminal on the PS board needed to see a earth.... which it wasn't as the PS board wasn't screwed back in. Once the PS board was correctly mounted all good again. I was surprised to see that most, if not all the Electrolytic Caps on my high end receiver has 85 degree C electro's installed, I would have thought Yamaha would have used higher Temp caps.

    Hello many tks for your post : I've had the same problem with R-840 yam module. In this case, Capa was 8,8 n instead 22 n, and limited to 250V, quite the same as the main (235V here in Belgium)... I replace by a 400V one and it's working like a charm... For information, this Capa is marked C13 !!! :-)

    Hi there, I have a slightly different problem with a Yamaha RX-V481D. Can you help with what it could be? The amp was little used and only just out of guarantee. When you turn on , there is no sound and to rectify this you put the headphone plug in and back out again, you hear a relay click and it's all working. Then after doing this for say a dozen operations spreadout over some weeks, the amp seemed to work better and didn't need this doing anymore. Then yesterday, it returned back to needing the headphone socket in and out thing doing again, and then once it even clicked off the sound while listening (on for an hour or so) , which it's never done before. Any help appreciated. P.S. the only thing to add is that we don't use the 5.1 channel features on this amp, just 2 speakers connected and select the program: 2 channel stereo.

    There's only a little gold in modern electronics like computers, this amplifier didn't have much if any.

    I could throw around the term of planed obsolesce that many do. But it isn't that. 1/3 failures are due to a good idea at the time, that where new and clever ideas and would need to be ironed out as they fail. In other words lets innovate and R&D at the customers expense in there own home. 2/3 Let's out source as cheep as we can the bit's that are below us, power suplies are so easy a kid can do it, they may pass standards but are shite, but they worked when presented to the buyer. Peace UT :D

    Hello, good video, I have one Yamaha RX-V430 and it was in the box for several years, one day I decided to power it on, but it was completely dead. How many voltage should come out from this power supply that you recorded? There is a capacitor on the out put borne it is 104 Q 50V. Should I replace it? I can not find the same capacitor to buy. How can I replace it?

    Excellent video and very helpful. I'm about to replace the cap on my board but unsure if this is the problem. Maybe you can confirm? I have a RX-V375 for about 1.5 years. I unplugged it a day to paint the living room and when I plugged it back in there was no more display. Just the red light by the power button. I unplugged everything and did the reset with the straight and power button hold. It does a series of clicks but does not power up or make any thing on the display. So I think its a power source problem. I did electronic repairs in the Navy but always had specs to look at for my checks. This is definitely playing in the dark?

    • @ubuntututorials
      @ubuntututorials  Před 7 lety

      If you just get a red light and clicks then it is probably not this fault as it means the standby circuit is working ok. However you can always try replacing the component as it is not very expensive or difficult to replace.

    Hi, can anyone give me a pointer to where to buy a replacement capacitor and the exact one I need, delivery in the UK. I'm not familiar with the different variants/types. Does a 22nf 1kv Film Capacitor PC/HV/S/WF Series PolyPropylene sound correct?

    • @ubuntututorials

      +Graeme Orrin pretty much any type of nonpolar cap with a 22nF capacitance and 800V or higher rating should work fine, those sound ok to me.

• @UberAlphaSirus

    I concur. If you left it on standby for a year without that circuit, thats around 25KW Per year and say, I dunno 20pence per KW for arguments sake is £5 per year on standby then say you might have 20 devices consuming the same on standby, costing £100 per year in electricity.
    I would rather pay for the electricity, than have good equipment become dead in 1 to 10 years due to Eco Nutters not seeing the long term. 95% of these would be binned just for a tired Cap and a new one purchased. Grr. :D

    It is an example of a poorly thought out eco-law designed to make politicians look good. Another example is the removal of lead from solder, which led (and continues to lead to) the rash of BGA processor failures, such as on the Xbox 360/PS3, various nVidia graphics cards, various LCD/plasma TVs etc etc. Wonder how much has been trashed due to bad BGA.
