Respect to Philippine Military. But this incident in Marawi is so far the biggest Failure in Philippine Military history since 1946. The destruction and burning of almost an entire city and the prolonged conflict that lasted for over 5 months and the over 150 Philippine soldiers killed and almost a thousand wounded isn't warranted for an enemy force of less than 500 with only small arms fire and no artillery or air power. It's not the fault of the individual Philippine soldier but the fault of political strategists who wanted to look good and tried to storm Marawi head on with heavy assaults including a hasty air strike without proper ground intel that resulted to friendly fire killing 11 Philippine Army soldiers.
The Philippine President and his politicians disgustingly just wanted the bragging rights and to show off rather than adapt a more efficient strategy.
13 times battalion size Philippine Army and Marine units were pulled out from position to create a safe zone for visiting Politicians most of the time the President himself instead of utilizing those units to maintain the strangle hold and the pressure on the enemy.
In the end the terrorist heads that were the original target that escalated this conflict were able to escape from the military cordon. Although one of them was killed later way far from marawi by his own ground commanders due to internal conflict of leadership.
Marawi siege should be a big lesson for the learning.
The Previous big conflict in Marawi and Zamboanga under Pres. F Marcos, in the 70's. Pres. Estrada in the 90's and Pres. Aquiino in the 2010's were also flawed but not a failure like this Marawi incident that should be a big embarrassment for the incompetent upper leadership.
