  • Burnt Ranch Gorge is a deep gorge located on the north west coast of California on the Trinity River. A dam upstream results in reliable releases, making it a great option for paddling late in the season. This section is probably Class 4-4+ at the flows we did it at, and above 2000 CFS it is most likely Class 5.
Thanks to Wes Schrek, Wes Smith and Joe Rand for showing me down the first lap!

Great run! Super river! I think I need to run this river before I get any older. Next summer can't come soon enough.
    Great video. Thanks!

is this a 4/4+ for the moves or for consequences?

#1, #2 and #3 are Class IV+ consequence really, as (AT THESE FLOWS) it is not too difficult for a solid class IV+ boater to stay upright and maneuver. You do not want to be on river right at number 2, as last I checked there was a big log that is a hazard. See A Wet State's write up here for the naming of the run www.awetstate.com/TrinityBRG.html
If you are asking this question, please go with someone who knows the run well. There are plenty of locals in Arcata that frequent the run, who could tell you that you are good to go on this run before you jump into it with a group who has not done it before. Hiking out is brutal as it is in a deep gorge. Have you done Chamberlains/E to P on the South Yuba?

@@TheHayward05 Trinity Pigeon Point is probably my next Calli run. Fine with tackling 4s with a 3 swim but avoiding 4s with a 4+ swim for the moment

@@shadowsrwolf Super fun run! Really practice eddy catches and rolling in the middle of rapids (when it's deep enough)! Combat rolls are huge to get down at the beginning!
This is definitely not the run to take the step up on. Chamberlains is much more friendly on a swim. Definitely set your sights on this run in the future though, it'll feel great when you get here!
