- Scientist and author Edward O. Wilson, draws on studies from a broad spectrum of disciplines to show how various fields of inquiry, and especially the humanities and sciences, intersect with each other. According to Wilson, "the greatest enterprise of the mind has always been and always will be the attempted linkage of the sciences and the humanities." Series: "Frontiers of Knowledge" [5/2002] [Humanities] [Science] [Show ID: 6434]
Good stuff. He was a trailblazer.
Dr. Wilson, you are a visionnaire.
I read Consilience. I really wanted t o like it . Wilson's book is really about the way Science will eventually "explain" the humanities.
Are you still alive?
That is a good thing because except for history and the arts the humanities, and by that he means the social sciences, need to become more rigorous. The fact that the social sciences use math does not make them scientific. When the social sciences become predictive they will be scientific. The closest economics came to being a science was Keynes. Used properly Keynes is science because it can be tested and verified as predictable. Trickle-down economics and all flavors of the supply side theories are totally useless. Only Republicans who have no knowledge of economics favor voodoo economics.
@naturalpreservation you guys have just missed the whole point haven't you ?? The future is at the convergence of humanities AND science.. BOTH views are crucial to futher our understanding of HUMAN NATURE.
This is superb!
consilience.
Nice.
