I lived in Miami in the early 80's during the Miami Vice era. It sure has come along way since I moved 3 hours north, but I marvel at all the changes once a year when I drive down.
Must have been the most awesome thing to live in Miami in the 80s, so super cool you had that experience.
@@hoppeanofasgard1365 Jacksonville today is alot like Miami of that time. I actually grew up in Los Angeles before moving to Florida and back then L.A. (So Cal) was already huge but the place to be in the 60's/70's. Miami felt like a really small town in contrast. Nowadays, even Key West is too crowded.

I would have thought the cultural scene to have been entirely different from an 80s Miami given the music of the time both mainstream and local, the latino influence, the cocaine fuled nightlife and the various islands you got just off the coat there and there own local vibes.

As a Miami resident for about 50 years now, I can personally tell you that anything that was showed here (other than Little Havana), you would have to be well off, very well off, or rich to afford any rentals or have a mortgage there.
Even the surrounding cities of the metropolitan Miami area have caused rental and home prices (including my home) to go up substantially.
And one more thing, living ANYWHERE near the coast or near water (lake, river, ocean) like in the downtown area, Miami Beach, etc, you are going to pay the price!

Good evening, Juan, great comment... I have been residing in Old Naples Florida for over 50 years now...The Real Estate market prices & rentals are going through the roof as well, all over Southwest Florida...I see it as the Greed level, catching up too California...Unfortunately.

Thankfully CA doesnt have the inflation rate of Miami which is the highest in the country nor the huge frauds in the medical industry or the overall crisis of homeowners property insurance. If you want to see real greed you need to leave your entitled community of Naples.
Miami is wonderful, the water is very clean. I can relax there at the beach all day.

@@user-dx7gm7no3l Take your pick : major crime activity, traffic gridlocks, bad drivers who rather not follow local vehicle laws with little enforcement from the authorities, large homeless population, very high inflation rate, lack of housing and all housing very expensive, huge homeowners insurance crisis, major hurricanes every year, huge amount of trailer parks and rednecks, etc, etc....

@@BillionDollarApp I've been to many countries around the world, visited Miami a couple of times and I liked it but it's not even in my top 30 most beautiful cities. Barcelona, Dubrovnik, Prague, Lisbon, Palma de Mallorca, Istanbul and many more, are far more beautiful and enjoyable than Miami, which is unwalkable and full superficial people, like most of US cities. Even San Diego is better with its mountains, parks and zoos

When I visited Miami a couple of weeks ago in December of 2023, I have to say that I was very surprised. Beautiful, rich city, clean, warm and sunny even in the middle of winter. I'm so glad I brought my drone with me. Although my drone and camera video that I'm going to upload in a couple of days on my CZcams channel is not as informative as this one, it is unique because it has more personal engagement. Well it has the first modern L train system since the last one was built in Philadelphia that opened in 1907 with turnouts before it goes into a tunnel in the center of the city from the 69th Street Terminal. My old hometown of NYC had the first one when a short one for several blocks had a demonstration run in 1867 with a wheel set with a seat in the middle with Charles Harvey pulling the cable that propelled the set for several blocks backwards and forwards. It operated from Rector Street to 29th Street and 9th Avenue terminal and was double tracked and extended into the Upper West Side in 1878.
