Maximizing Your Arcade1Up Simpsons Cabinet: RetroArch and Dig Frontend Step-by-Step DIY Walkthrough

- In today's video, I'm going to Maximize Your Simpsons Arcade1UP Cab by giving you a step-by-step guide and DIY walkthrough in relation to setting up the Android Frontend Dig and the popular Emulator Core handler, RetroArch. This Arcade1up Modification helps you get the most out of your Arcade by helping you have access to more games with Mame and Emulation.
This guide assumes that you've installed and are using the Mystery Dawson 4 Player Control fix for the Simpsons Arcade 1UP Cabinet, and for full disclosure, I also have a supplementary power supply and an externally Powered USB hub that I use to help fix the Low Battery Bug. (Fix is maybe a strong word; this more avoids the issue.)

Greetings. I am very excited to have gotten this working. I appreciate you making this video. I just have one question. Which hot key do I need to setup to get out of a game I am playing. For example I might be playing Burgertime using retroarch and would like to play a different game how can I exit that game and return to DIG?
First, Thank you for checking out the channel. That Means the World to me. Second, to answer you question you set that up in retroarch, and you'll need to program that in @ the input section. Thanks so much for all of the detailed videos. I have it all set up, but I can’t actually start the games in Dig. One of two things happens:
1. Even though I can start the games directly in RetroArch (NES using QuickNES emulator, for instance), when I choose that (or any) emulators in Dig, it says, “QuickNES is not installed- go to Play Store to download?” And when you click yes, it does nothing.
2. A few times I’ve chosen RetroArch 32 Bit and the proper emulator (QuickNES plays best for what I’ve tried), it just crashes RetroArch.
Any ideas? The custom Dig system is so awesome- I’d hate to have to manually run each game out of RetroArch
The hand off from dig to retroarch is the issue. Verify that Dig is pointing to the right retroarch, and make sure you have the core it is asking for in dig downloaded into RetroArch. Its hard to tell without looking at your setup.
@@TechicallyTNT Thanks for the replay. Been working all night on this. Something that might help diagnose: Dig defaults to “Default Retroarch” on each system. So I have to go to each one and switch it to “Retroarch 32 bit”. And then it looks like the game will load, but then Retroarch crashes - it says Retroarch 32 Bit has stopped working. Happens every time
@@jimfusco I'm Not Sure brother, BUT I hope you get it figured out.
@@TechicallyTNT I got it to work! And for those running into similar issues, it really came down to making sure RetroArch 32 Bit was selected on both the system and the game, clearing the RetroArch cache (has to be done in the RA app), and making sure your romset matches the emulator you’re using. I ended up going with FBA Neo and now everything works. Only thing left is to figure out how to get all of the cover art and such to show. My Genesis games show up, but arcade games haven’t yet.
I feel like im missing a small detail. Mod works perfect but my internal storage keeps maxing out. Any clue to what im doing wrong for that to happen?
Open up Dev, then go into each app and move the locations that things are getting saved to.

No idea brother. I don't have that cab. I would recommend joining Droidcade....
So two months later how is it working for you? is Retroarch remembering all the custom controller settings or randomly getting them mixed up? dig keeping the scraped images or randomly losing them?
When Patched RetroArch works well from my use. You do need make sure you bind the player one controls to player one, and when you start RetroArch, Make sure the first controller you touch is the Red Player One. and it will work each time. Thats a BIG no. However, I Love Golden Axe, and I Wish I had that cab....
I am currently loading up some roms onto the sd card. I seem to be having trouble with the controls and retroarch. I tried a fresh install and using your version, still trying to work out the kinks. I have the yoga flame cabinet, and just installed the 3 other fight cab apks. Those all work great. Even the simpsons one works, except the directional controls are invererted and backwards. Up is right, down is left, etc. Great channel.
Do you know if that MDE works for any of the other arcade 1up cabs?

Is dig needed?
If you want a clean look YES, BUT no you do not need Dig. If you know and like RetroArch, Totally use it. Side Note: Thank you for watching the Video, and I hope you enjoy the Channel.
I went through all the steps and everything seems right but when I try and launch a game the screen goes black -- have to double click the live button to get out and go home eventually - any ideas?
it has to do with the DIG program -- I am able to load fine in retroarch.
do the rom files need to be unzipped?
Sounds like a rom set issue, can you tell me more about what your launching.
@@TechicallyTNT I've got zip files for snes, nes, gba, gb, gbc, sega and n64 -- they are opening fine if I do load content through retroarch but if I try and open through dig it goes to a black screen and then I have to forcequit
or it will forcequit retroarch on its own

Yoga has more then one option BUT the MDE is one of those options.
@@TechicallyTNT I carried on without that and I got some roms and I could run them directly thru RetroArch, but dig finds all the roms but when I try to launch it tells me mame2000 is not installed and asks me to download it via play store

@dreamspheree Yeap it will do that if you don't have it set up right. Check and make sure you've told DIG what Version of RetroArch You are running.

First, Thanks for checking out the video. Second, I have no idea. If you've not get on FB and join Droidcad. Also check out Reddit, Team Encoder has a list of what's been softmodded. You can also go hard modded if you wish. I have installed the X-man app on my Simpsons Cab, BUT Nothing worked, and I had to Factory reset the system.
Putting APKs on the cabinet....does that mean any APK? What i mean is i.e, emulators, such as, Aethersx2, DuckStation....?
Yes Sir. I know this works with psp, retroarch, and I've heard reports of others aswell.

No idea..... I know nothing about those apk files. Retroarch, the repackaged A1up apk files, Mame4driod, the Psp emulator. I know work, Anything after is anyone's guess.

Can you get online with a soft mod using ggpo an Android app that lets you play retro fighting games online can you drag the files from your PC and put it onto the arcade one up to play online???
Can You get On-line? YES, will it work with ggpo? No idea what that even, but guessing an emulator, IF those assumptions are correct, then yes it should, and if the "Games" you speak of are roms, Then Yes.... BUT remember that you are limited to 2 button games.

I have street fighter arcade1up trying to setup controls in retroarch with hotkeys after I try save it goes back to normal any help would be great
I've not played with any of the Andriod SF cabs. I do have Yoga Flame, BUT I've not Modded it YET. If Your On FB find a Group called Droidcade (You can find the Link in the Discription). Post your question there, as I'm sure the group can help.
I have a question so would it be possible in theory to do this mod and then add the tmnt mod in addition if so how would i need to go about that? Would i just creat another launch menu in nova and then have it auto launch to nova instead of dig?
