You can say that Diana's voice is the rarest of the rare jewels that exist on this Earth, her natural voice is deep, her vocal type is Contralto, that is the deepest and rarest female vocal type (it is the rarest even if we include the male vocal types), further more she is classified as a Dramatic Contralto which is the deepest, darkest and most powerful of the contraltos (which is even rarer), she is also polyphonic she is able to resonate with herself producing more than one notes in different registers that gives the effect of hearing multiple voices connected in one huge voice when she sings, very few people can utilize this ability like she does, this is the main reason on why people always get goosebumps when they hear her sing (thus the nickname Queen of goosebumps). Her range in also crazy for her age, it is about 4 octaves and she can easily switch between any note there on the fly because her vocal agility is insane, her unique tinbre is unheard of once you hear her there is no way that you will be able to forget it. So she is a Contralto that can fully cover the range from the male Tenor up to both Mezzo and Soprano female vocal types and we will see her evolve way more because she is just 20 years old, a Contralto's voice is considered young even at the age of 30. I absolutely love this! Thank you! I’m usually too lost to think of the correct terms, but I too am a contralto! I used to sing the low harmonies in my schools show choir, and only just recently learned what catagory my voice sits in! I felt utterly caught in her spell and at her will. Truly nothing I’ve experienced in my life before in such a way! I have another video of hers coming too! (A Chris Isaac cover😉) and I can say I’m entirely hooked on her! Alison, this performance took place on September 25, 2021, during the inaugural season of a new Russian vocal competition called the “ShowMaskGoOn!”, and Diana Ankudinova was only 18, in 2021 when this performance took place. For the new “ShowMaskGoOn” competition Diana’s performed Elvis Presley’s classic, “Can't Help Falling In Love”. In past interviews Diana has said she was not happy with her lack of a higher vocal range, and that lack kept her out of the more prestigious Russian music academies. Along with her voice teacher she decided to concentrate extensively on improving and developing her upper vocal range since vocal range helps to determine and define voice type. In 2017 when she was 13 years old, Diana’s vocal range was measured for the first time and at her vocal range then was measured from a low of D3 (lower alto range) to a high of A5 (mid to upper alto range), which was unusually low for a 13 year old girl. During the “Can’t Help Falling In Love” performance, her vocal range was again measured and Diana’s functional vocal range now goes from a low of C3 (male Tenor range) to a high of B♭5, (female Mezzo Soprano range). One of the common questions regarding Diana’s unique voice is, how does she do it? How does such a young female singer achieve such a low, rich, deep, profound, and resonant sound? Without actually scoping her vocal tract while she is producing those low notes to physically see what is happening within her vocal tract, the general conciseness of many vocal professionals is simply attributing Diana's ability to her winning the genetic lottery. Diana was just born with her unique vocal anatomy. Diana's vocal folds (vocal cords) appear to be longer and thicker than the vast majority of female singers. Her larynx, (voice box), likewise appears to be larger and similarly her pharynx, (throat), also appears to be longer than the vast majority of female singers, plus she has a large oral cavity (mouth). It’s this unique vocal anatomical structure that appears to give Diana Ankudinova the ability to produce the low, deep, rich, and full sounds she is known for, but without actually scoping her vocal track to verify, there is no way to be 100% sure. For this new the “ShowMaskGoOn!” competition, Diana’s one of her performances was her cover of Elvis Presley’s classic, “Can't Help Falling In Love”, and it showed what many vocal professionals have been saying since Diana was 14, that based on Diana’s previous vocal competition’s, and concerts, she has now developed into what many believed she always was, a true contralto voice type. For those that do not know what a contralto voice type is, a contralto is the lowest, and deepest type of female voice, and a true contralto is very, very rare. Just to be clear, there are 3 recognized Contralto voice types: a) Coloratura Contralto: The coloratura contralto has a light, agile voice ranging very high for the classification and atypically maintains extensive coloratura and high sustaining notes, specializing in florid passages and leaps. b) Lyric Contralto: The lyric contralto voice is lighter than a dramatic contralto but not capable of the ornamentation and leaps of a coloratura contralto. This class of contralto, lighter in timbre than the others. c) Dramatic Contralto: The dramatic contralto is the deepest, darkest, and heaviest contralto voice, usually having a heavier tone and more power than the others. Singers in this classification are very rare. During the opening of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” Diana’s low Lyric Contralto voice is on full display. The Coloratura Contralto improvement to her upper range is also on display during the middle portion of this performance. Finally, the depth and power of Diana’s voice during the final section define her as not just a Contralto, but as a “Dramatic Contralto” voice type, and a Dramatic Contralto has the lowest, deepest, darkest, richest sound and it is the most powerful of the contralto voice types and is the rarest of the very rare Contralto voice types. At the end of this performance, the full power of her Dramatic Contralto voice is on full display for everyone to hear. It’s not just how low she can go. It’s in the exceptional quality of her tone in her upper range but especially in her lower range that makes her so very special. It's in the roundness, fullness, and depth of her sound, along with her ability to create, access, and use an enormous amount of resonance. Diana has also a mastered a vocal technique known as polyphonic singing. Having mastered the polyphonic singing technique gives Diana the ability to create 1, and up to 2 different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones and can sound an octave, or an octave and a half above. It’s this polyphonic singing ability that can make it sound like more than one person singing which is why sometimes people mistakenly believe Diana Ankudinova is using some form of artificial voice manipulation like Auto Tune, or she is using pitch correction software to alter or adjust her sound. Others believe another person is singing off stage in the background. Diana has been accused of lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track that was altered or modified. There is NO artificial manipulation of Diana's voice at all, and no one else is singing off stage, nor is she lip-syncing to a vocal track. What you are hearing in the background is a backing for the track musical score, along with a choir also on a backing tracks that’s used to fill in and round out the performance. Diana Ankudinova, and only Diana Ankudinova is actually singing Can't Help Falling In Love. Now, during the “ShowMaskGoOn” Diana was competing against 8 other professional singers, Diana being the 9th competitor. Diana and the other singer's also doubled as judges for this competition which was televised over nine weeks, one singer per week for the entirety of the 9 weeks. Diana and the other professional singers/judges were competing against each other, and based on their individual performances they awarded judging points to each other. Each week a different singer took center stage and performed a different song over each of the nine weeks using a different genre of music, and a different style for each song performed. The ShowMaskGoOn! concluded on November 20, 2021, and during Diana’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love” performance, the judge on the top row who was the first to stand is a well known Russian opera tenor, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan. He was invited to participate as a special guest judge for this inaugural competition. At the end of Diana's performance she receives a standing ovation from all her fellow competitors. One of those competitors is a well-known contemporary Russian singer, Julia Parshuta. Julia is in the center row dressed in in red, and looks totally lost at the end of Diana's performance. She puts both hands on top of her head, and looks totally shocked, and bewildered. Finally, The Show Must Go On competition concluded with Diana Ankudinova being awarded the most judging points over the total of 9 weeks, and was declared the competition winner!

I agree with all of the comments....and in the comments there is a lot of great information. I will add a few things. Diana's backstory is truly amazing....there is a video out there that chronicles her life story and her feelings at the time (she was around 14 at that time). She was devastatingly abused by her mother at a very young age, and was abandoned at a train station with a broken collar bone at age 3. She was taken to her aunt, but as the child could not speak and was unwanted, she ended up in an orphanage. She had severe issues speaking, and noticing her singing to cartoons, they decided to use singing lessons as a means of speech therapy, and found she had a flawless sense of tone. A message therapist at the orphanage fell in love with sweet diana, and along with the urging of her other child, adopted Diana. They eventually moved to another city, as Diana was haunted by fears of her birth mother kidnapping her. The other aspect is what she is doing now. Diana performs a ton, and is starting to make her own music. "In my huge city" is my favorite of her recent songs, it is a poem written by a famous Russian poet who (like all poets LOL) suffered from mental issues, especially insomnia. The song is about wandering the city while being unable to sleep. She has also released other singles, did a movie soundtrack, and most recently performed with a symphony orchestra reviewing the works of Hans Zimmer...Diana performed two songs, the best of which is the Dune soundtrack. She had been repeatedly honoured by her country and the original videos of her performances on the Russian station NTV in "Your are Super" 2018 and 2019 - now taken down consequent to the YT/Russia spat - had received hundreds of millions of views. Her musical journey, from her very first performances when she was 6 or so to the present is very well documented by several hundred videos on YT. To be able by this means to watch her grow as a person and as an artist is a very remarkable pleasure. She is a genius, an absolute force of nature who has been giving brilliant, compelling, and hugely satisfying performances since she was 10. Welcome to the Siren's cove, you have listened to a voice for the ages. I'm 50, never heard anything like it before finding her. As a judge said, unbelievable talent. And as you watch more of her you will see there is substance and true humanity behind it. She is a very hard working and honest artist that throws her own emotions into her performances, to the point of draining herself, possibly. I imagine she is physically exausted when she does something like this.

This performance was my first exposure to this phenomenal singer. She is now my favorite - I can't get enough of her voice. Such a dear and charming girl, as well. Yes, watching her develop is truly a privilege. Diana just did a blind duet with the pretty girl in the red dress (Yulia Parchuta) that was fantastic and really fun to watch, especially since they became friends on this show. Greetings from Scotland! I've heard so many people butcher her name, believe me, that pronunciation was fine! 😊 A beautiful young (18 here) lady with a difficult surname and an angelic voice! You need her backstory to understand what helped to "create" this young vocal phenomenon! Diana is 20yo currently but I've been following her since she was around 13yo. Diana is a natural Dramatic Contralto so the lower registers are her comfort zone but she now has a 5 octave range and it's increasing. She also naturally sings with polyphonic overtones so it sounds like many voices at the same time! Diana's birthmother had multiple miscarriages but when Diana came along, she seemed to hate her. She verbally and physically abused her, trying to drown her and belittle her. It all culminated when (at 3yo) a passing relative found her in her home with a broken collarbone and several other injuries. She went for the authorities who removed Diana from her birthmothers care and placed her in an orphanage. For almost 2 years Diana never gave up hope and she knew that she was meant for something better. (This story is in her Wikipedia entry) Finally her new mother (Irina Ponik, who worked as a masseuse there occasionally) Signed her adoption papers and took her home. She vowed to pay Irina back for her kindness. Irina had a real struggle because Diana had obviously been badly affected by the experiences and at 5yo, she had a very bad stammer. It was recommended that she be taken for singing lessons to help this and immediately it was recognised that Diana had perfect pitch and an excellent ear for music and songs. 1 year later, at 6yo, Diana was performing solo on stage! This young unique phenomenon sang everywhere and anywhere she could, working constantly to earn money for the family who rescued her. This video was from the end of the first episode of The Show Mask Go On. All the judges (except the man at the top who stood toward the end) were also contestants. One thing that comes with that format is voting shenanigans, but at the end of the series, Diana did win. I watched that entire first episode to see all the contestants perform, and Diana really did outdo them all. Also all the contestants had previously won one or another of the various talent shows in Russia. Diana had won twice in a talent show for children with hardships (she had been orphaned by an abusive mother).

Well, there’s not a whole lot more that can be said that has not already been said I would like to make a suggestion to you because of this being your first experience of her my first suggestion is do a little background research into her life and her past this will give you a whole new understanding of her passion, that you see in her performances it is a very interesting story and it will be worth your time. My second suggestion is for you to go back into time a little bit and start with her younger performances to get a full mind blowing experience of her, I would suggest you start with a performance of Rechanka. At the age of 14. And then the performance of. A Chris Isaak cover wicked games and then a cover of rag and bones human. All of these performances was when she was 14 and 15 years old try and fine the ones that were used in the talent competition because of the stage production value and the thing is every single performance will blow you away I guarantee it Once you make it through those three, I can guarantee you he will be hooked. What you felt watching this performance is not just a one time thing that happend when the stars aligned, it is a constant, it is the Diana effect, she was only 18 years old when she sang this.
You can say that Diana's voice is the rarest of the rare jewels that exist on this Earth, her natural voice is deep, her vocal type is Contralto, that is the deepest and rarest female vocal type (it is the rarest even if we include the male vocal types), further more she is classified as a Dramatic Contralto which is the deepest, darkest and most powerful of the contraltos (which is even rarer), she is also polyphonic she is able to resonate with herself producing more than one notes in different registers that gives the effect of hearing multiple voices connected in one huge voice when she sings, very few people can utilize this ability like she does, this is the main reason on why people always get goosebumps when they hear her sing (thus the nickname Queen of goosebumps).
Her range in also crazy for her age, it is about 4 octaves and she can easily switch between any note there on the fly because her vocal agility is insane, her unique tinbre is unheard of once you hear her there is no way that you will be able to forget it.
So she is a Contralto that can fully cover the range from the male Tenor up to both Mezzo and Soprano female vocal types and we will see her evolve way more because she is just 20 years old, a Contralto's voice is considered young even at the age of 30.
Of course she has mastered her vocal instrument like no other, you will see her do things with her voice that you would thought that they are impossible.
The power of her voice is unbelivable too she can belt continuisly like aforce of nature, if you stand in front of her while she is at it there is agood chance you will be blown away.
But at the end of the day no matter how much anyone talks about her technical skills the number one most impressive thing about her is her magical ability to transport the listener to her own world of music, her artistry on the stage is unprecedented she goes in to a trance when she sings as she immerses herself and becomes the song itself, you will often find your self glued to her every gesture even if you do not understand the language you are listening to and she has sang in a lot of them English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Russian it does not matter because you always get the full experience from just watching her art.
You should search for her life's story it is very inspirational and you will understand why she is so humble and so down to earth.
So have a good time discovering this generational talent, This is what a true genius in her field looks like, it really does not even matter what you choose to hear from her, you will not find a single song that will not leave you with your mouth open, her voice is a drug once you get hooked it is game over, other voices would not be able to scratch the itch of not hearing her sing.

Alison, this performance took place on September 25, 2021, during the inaugural season of a new Russian vocal competition called the “ShowMaskGoOn!”, and Diana Ankudinova was only 18, in 2021 when this performance took place. For the new “ShowMaskGoOn” competition Diana’s performed Elvis Presley’s classic, “Can't Help Falling In Love”.
In past interviews Diana has said she was not happy with her lack of a higher vocal range, and that lack kept her out of the more prestigious Russian music academies. Along with her voice teacher she decided to concentrate extensively on improving and developing her upper vocal range since vocal range helps to determine and define voice type. In 2017 when she was 13 years old, Diana’s vocal range was measured for the first time and at her vocal range then was measured from a low of D3 (lower alto range) to a high of A5 (mid to upper alto range), which was unusually low for a 13 year old girl. During the “Can’t Help Falling In Love” performance, her vocal range was again measured and Diana’s functional vocal range now goes from a low of C3 (male Tenor range) to a high of B♭5, (female Mezzo Soprano range).
One of the common questions regarding Diana’s unique voice is, how does she do it? How does such a young female singer achieve such a low, rich, deep, profound, and resonant sound? Without actually scoping her vocal tract while she is producing those low notes to physically see what is happening within her vocal tract, the general conciseness of many vocal professionals is simply attributing Diana's ability to her winning the genetic lottery. Diana was just born with her unique vocal anatomy. Diana's vocal folds (vocal cords) appear to be longer and thicker than the vast majority of female singers. Her larynx, (voice box), likewise appears to be larger and similarly her pharynx, (throat), also appears to be longer than the vast majority of female singers, plus she has a large oral cavity (mouth). It’s this unique vocal anatomical structure that appears to give Diana Ankudinova the ability to produce the low, deep, rich, and full sounds she is known for, but without actually scoping her vocal track to verify, there is no way to be 100% sure.
For this new the “ShowMaskGoOn!” competition, Diana’s one of her performances was her cover of Elvis Presley’s classic, “Can't Help Falling In Love”, and it showed what many vocal professionals have been saying since Diana was 14, that based on Diana’s previous vocal competition’s, and concerts, she has now developed into what many believed she always was, a true contralto voice type. For those that do not know what a contralto voice type is, a contralto is the lowest, and deepest type of female voice, and a true contralto is very, very rare. Just to be clear, there are 3 recognized Contralto voice types:
a) Coloratura Contralto: The coloratura contralto has a light, agile voice ranging very high for the classification and atypically maintains extensive coloratura and high sustaining notes, specializing in florid passages and leaps.
b) Lyric Contralto: The lyric contralto voice is lighter than a dramatic contralto but not capable of the ornamentation and leaps of a coloratura contralto. This class of contralto, lighter in timbre than the others.
c) Dramatic Contralto: The dramatic contralto is the deepest, darkest, and heaviest contralto voice, usually having a heavier tone and more power than the others. Singers in this classification are very rare.
During the opening of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” Diana’s low Lyric Contralto voice is on full display. The Coloratura Contralto improvement to her upper range is also on display during the middle portion of this performance. Finally, the depth and power of Diana’s voice during the final section define her as not just a Contralto, but as a “Dramatic Contralto” voice type, and a Dramatic Contralto has the lowest, deepest, darkest, richest sound and it is the most powerful of the contralto voice types and is the rarest of the very rare Contralto voice types. At the end of this performance, the full power of her Dramatic Contralto voice is on full display for everyone to hear. It’s not just how low she can go. It’s in the exceptional quality of her tone in her upper range but especially in her lower range that makes her so very special. It's in the roundness, fullness, and depth of her sound, along with her ability to create, access, and use an enormous amount of resonance.
Diana has also a mastered a vocal technique known as polyphonic singing. Having mastered the polyphonic singing technique gives Diana the ability to create 1, and up to 2 different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones and can sound an octave, or an octave and a half above. It’s this polyphonic singing ability that can make it sound like more than one person singing which is why sometimes people mistakenly believe Diana Ankudinova is using some form of artificial voice manipulation like Auto Tune, or she is using pitch correction software to alter or adjust her sound. Others believe another person is singing off stage in the background. Diana has been accused of lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track that was altered or modified. There is NO artificial manipulation of Diana's voice at all, and no one else is singing off stage, nor is she lip-syncing to a vocal track. What you are hearing in the background is a backing for the track musical score, along with a choir also on a backing tracks that’s used to fill in and round out the performance. Diana Ankudinova, and only Diana Ankudinova is actually singing Can't Help Falling In Love.
Now, during the “ShowMaskGoOn” Diana was competing against 8 other professional singers, Diana being the 9th competitor. Diana and the other singer's also doubled as judges for this competition which was televised over nine weeks, one singer per week for the entirety of the 9 weeks. Diana and the other professional singers/judges were competing against each other, and based on their individual performances they awarded judging points to each other. Each week a different singer took center stage and performed a different song over each of the nine weeks using a different genre of music, and a different style for each song performed.
The ShowMaskGoOn! concluded on November 20, 2021, and during Diana’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love” performance, the judge on the top row who was the first to stand is a well known Russian opera tenor, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan. He was invited to participate as a special guest judge for this inaugural competition. At the end of Diana's performance she receives a standing ovation from all her fellow competitors. One of those competitors is a well-known contemporary Russian singer, Julia Parshuta. Julia is in the center row dressed in in red, and looks totally lost at the end of Diana's performance. She puts both hands on top of her head, and looks totally shocked, and bewildered. Finally, The Show Must Go On competition concluded with Diana Ankudinova being awarded the most judging points over the total of 9 weeks, and was declared the competition winner!

I agree with all of the comments....and in the comments there is a lot of great information. I will add a few things. Diana's backstory is truly amazing....there is a video out there that chronicles her life story and her feelings at the time (she was around 14 at that time). She was devastatingly abused by her mother at a very young age, and was abandoned at a train station with a broken collar bone at age 3. She was taken to her aunt, but as the child could not speak and was unwanted, she ended up in an orphanage. She had severe issues speaking, and noticing her singing to cartoons, they decided to use singing lessons as a means of speech therapy, and found she had a flawless sense of tone. A message therapist at the orphanage fell in love with sweet diana, and along with the urging of her other child, adopted Diana. They eventually moved to another city, as Diana was haunted by fears of her birth mother kidnapping her.
The other aspect is what she is doing now. Diana performs a ton, and is starting to make her own music. "In my huge city" is my favorite of her recent songs, it is a poem written by a famous Russian poet who (like all poets LOL) suffered from mental issues, especially insomnia. The song is about wandering the city while being unable to sleep. She has also released other singles, did a movie soundtrack, and most recently performed with a symphony orchestra reviewing the works of Hans Zimmer...Diana performed two songs, the best of which is the Dune soundtrack.

Welcome to the Siren's cove, you have listened to a voice for the ages. I'm 50, never heard anything like it before finding her. As a judge said, unbelievable talent. And as you watch more of her you will see there is substance and true humanity behind it. She is a very hard working and honest artist that throws her own emotions into her performances, to the point of draining herself, possibly. I imagine she is physically exausted when she does something like this.

This performance was my first exposure to this phenomenal singer. She is now my favorite - I can't get enough of her voice. Such a dear and charming girl, as well. Yes, watching her develop is truly a privilege. Diana just did a blind duet with the pretty girl in the red dress (Yulia Parchuta) that was fantastic and really fun to watch, especially since they became friends on this show. Greetings from Scotland! I've heard so many people butcher her name, believe me, that pronunciation was fine! 😊 A beautiful young (18 here) lady with a difficult surname and an angelic voice! You need her backstory to understand what helped to "create" this young vocal phenomenon!
Diana is 20yo currently but I've been following her since she was around 13yo. Diana is a natural Dramatic Contralto so the lower registers are her comfort zone but she now has a 5 octave range and it's increasing. She also naturally sings with polyphonic overtones so it sounds like many voices at the same time!
Diana's birthmother had multiple miscarriages but when Diana came along, she seemed to hate her. She verbally and physically abused her, trying to drown her and belittle her. It all culminated when (at 3yo) a passing relative found her in her home with a broken collarbone and several other injuries. She went for the authorities who removed Diana from her birthmothers care and placed her in an orphanage. For almost 2 years Diana never gave up hope and she knew that she was meant for something better. (This story is in her Wikipedia entry) Finally her new mother (Irina Ponik, who worked as a masseuse there occasionally) Signed her adoption papers and took her home. She vowed to pay Irina back for her kindness. Irina had a real struggle because Diana had obviously been badly affected by the experiences and at 5yo, she had a very bad stammer. It was recommended that she be taken for singing lessons to help this and immediately it was recognised that Diana had perfect pitch and an excellent ear for music and songs. 1 year later, at 6yo, Diana was performing solo on stage!
This young unique phenomenon sang everywhere and anywhere she could, working constantly to earn money for the family who rescued her. This video was from the end of the first episode of The Show Mask Go On. All the judges (except the man at the top who stood toward the end) were also contestants. One thing that comes with that format is voting shenanigans, but at the end of the series, Diana did win. I watched that entire first episode to see all the contestants perform, and Diana really did outdo them all. Also all the contestants had previously won one or another of the various talent shows in Russia. Diana had won twice in a talent show for children with hardships (she had been orphaned by an abusive mother).

Well, there’s not a whole lot more that can be said that has not already been said I would like to make a suggestion to you because of this being your first experience of her my first suggestion is do a little background research into her life and her past this will give you a whole new understanding of her passion, that you see in her performances it is a very interesting story and it will be worth your time. My second suggestion is for you to go back into time a little bit and start with her younger performances to get a full mind blowing experience of her, I would suggest you start with a performance of Rechanka. At the age of 14. And then the performance of. A Chris Isaak cover wicked games and then a cover of rag and bones human. All of these performances was when she was 14 and 15 years old try and fine the ones that were used in the talent competition because of the stage production value and the thing is every single performance will blow you away I guarantee it Once you make it through those three, I can guarantee you he will be hooked. There are so many many more performances for you to see you are just getting started. We all envy that. And as you can see, you are getting overwhelmed with comments of your reaction, and that simply because we all love her.
