  • Hi, here are some references and elaborations :)

    The song tells the story of a wanderer who returns to his hometown and sees the arrival of spring along with nostalgic scenery. But although spring has arrived, that familiar person is not there (implying loved one?)

    江南 JiangNan is a region in China referring to the area immediately south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Between months of March and April, the area welcomes spring along with quite a bit of rain and mist which produces the picturesque scenery that the area is famous for.
    So this line in the song seems to be making a juxtaposition between the region and the rain that it is known for and the protagonist who yearns for the person in their heart. Like two pairs who long for the other and so 'JiangNan dreams of the misty rain once more' may as well be referring to the protagonist. In the end, spring arrives at JiangNan yet that person is nowhere to be seen.

    人间清欢可期:
    人间 = human world
    清欢 = light happiness
    可期 = can be anticipated/ hoped for
    Seems to mean that people spend the time they have in this world enjoying themselves, living happy lives that don't rely on the larger goals and ambitions. 清欢 refers to joy that is elegant and comfortable on the mind. Like your mind is at ease, without enormous pressure and just happy to live a simple life. If an exciting life with huge risks and rewards is like the turbulent ocean waves, then this lyric is referring to a small pond with the occasional ripple from the wind.
    00:39
    My interpretation of this line is:
    The protagonist is sitting inside his old home that if filled with memories, one of which is a certain someone playing the qin/ zither. But as the snow falls, it muffles the world and drowns out the melody from their memory.
    This can sorta be linked to the next line about how, in an instant, everything from the past is obliterated; since either the protagonist is pulled out of their thoughts, or the snow has fallen and covered all the familiar scenery in a blanket of white that 'erases'/ 'obliterates' the past.
    I'm reading waaaay too much into this🤪.

    杳无音信 is an idiom from 《咏水仙》by 黄孝迈 Huang XiaoMai (Song Dynasty). It means that there is no news; describing loss of contact with or having no way to contact someone.

    When i searched up 一撇一捺, it's actually used to describe the character 人 (granted it's describing the strokes, so there are other characters but 人 came up the most). This character means person/ people, so in a way this line could be saying that this person only brings themselves along and travels the world. Leaves the materialistic stuff behind and only cares about the now (kinda in line with the whole poet thing).

    Also, not sure if this is true or not, but saw some Chinese comments that said the original singer was in middle school when they sang, wrote, and composed this song along with a partner.
