I’m not surprised how well the Reliant drives , I had the Regal saloon 21e in the 70s and it never let me down. Had to say goodbye to it after 60,000 miles when a car ran into the back.
i had a robin van in 1995 to travel from Worcester to Aberystwyth and back one day a week. 200 mile round trip thru the autumn, winter and spring. engine wore out so i bought a knackered robin saloon and the big ends started knocking after 3 months. miracle i survived the whole episode , 80 mph down the side of mountain A roads
Tis good to see some nice comments about the old Robin's , Normally it's the usual crappy stuff & Hatred. Never understood why, Thier a great little motor.
Engine sounds sweet in the old girl there, I wind mine up quite fast and did a vid (check my channel) of taking mine through some very sharp double bends without having to lose much speed and corners just so perfectly, I actually believe my Reliant corners better than a four wheel car and never once had a rear wheel even think of lifting either.
just got a reliant waiting for docs coming in mail then its off for a mot any hints on concerns for these cars on a mot normal fail points if u know any also looking for bigger wheels for it if u got any info would br great
Excellent video! If you do another, can you give more narrative? How fast were you going on the M1? It wasn’t as war busting as I thought it would be. If you can give more explanation as to what is going on at the time, that would be great, always wanted to have a go in a Robin!
Wonder what was the benefit of designing it as a 3-wheeler instead of conventional 4-wheeler? Were tires that expensive? Or was a single-wheel front somehow much cheaper to produce than the normal 2-wheel one? Just thinking that it would have been so much better device with conventional 4 wheels. Edited: I think I got it! If you had just a motorcycle licence, you were allowed to drive it! Hence, was it just an odd product caused by the bureaucracy and politics?!
Yes correct. Very british due to a very british loophole, however it was also apparently lighter, more fuel efficient and had good turning circle as a side effect.
It`s not just tyres, It`s one less wheel, Less therefore one less brake caliper, Strut and shaft etc, And not just less weight, It`s less cost to manufacture and cost to the customer, It`s also less to go wrong
@@x66Hawk66x for insurance purposed unfortunately they are classed as cars now which probably go's part of the way in explaining why the cheapest insurance qoutes i am getting are £575 pa tpft compared the £60 i was paying 25 years ago

I read a statistic that said Reliant drivers had the best safety record of any manufacturer, The last garage I visited with a damaged front end Reliant Robin was not the fault of the driver

There was a reliant 4 wheeler called the kitten but wasn’t successful because of the 4 wheels
