    James Ellroy not only a great crime writer, but he has a great sense of humour. My Dark Places is a facinating book.

    Spoken word and written "dialogue" from Ellroy punch and kick like Muhammad Ali and Bruce Lee at their best.

      Yes. There are certain moments, like in LA Confidential, where Bud White asks Dudley how he got witnesses to change their testimony. Dudley's wordless reply made me recoil like I was being hit. That's powerful prose.

    Ellroy is a different breed and has a way with words. Favorite author by far. I own every book he's written through Perfidia (2 w/autographs). Great interview.

    If it was 1947 and I was in LA walking down a dark ally, I'm sure that I would see someone like James Ellroy. Though he wasn't alive then, he's so in tune with the time. 👍👍👍

    Nicely dressed is James. American Tabloid is the best book I've ever read. JE used to say that LA Confidential was a great film. His favourite book is Perfidia. It's the one I like joint least.
    My favourite writer followed by Pelecanos.

    Great interview with Ellroy. Can't wait for these podcasts. Wish we got an answer for when the next volume in the second la quartet will issue. Sounds like he's working on something else.

      From an interview I read around the time Widespread Panic dropped he said he wants to wrap up the sequel WSP before finishing up LAQ2.

    Oswald had co-conspirators- Ellroy knows this (despite what he says here), as do his readers

    "I believe Lee acted alone" Aint fooling me James!

    • @americangangster1911
      @americangangster1911 Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah I don't buy it either. I think he says Oswald acted alone only because he doesn't want to talk about JFK assassination theories and he knows the Oswald acting alone theory is boring and will usually result in a changing of subjects but I think he also knows most of his fans won't believe him anyway. I believe his stance on the JFK hit is actually closer to Oliver Stones, the evidence clearly points to multiple shooters, hell even the Zapruder film clearly shows JFK getting hit from the front while Oswald was supposed to be behind him shooting from the book depository.

      @yxyxs Před 2 lety +2

      @@americangangster1911 I completely agree. I wouldn't be surprised if his publisher/agent specified what his response ought to be. Regardless, there's a tongue-in-cheek thing going on here, because there are multiple characters in Ellroy's book, who participated in the conspiracy, but who also say point blank: "Oswald acted alone." Ellroy knows the real score, and so do you friend.

    Grooved the interview
    However, Tabloid is not a JFK assassination novel.
    Regarding LA Confidential. It is a great film. It is not a great adaptation however. No movie in my opinion could do an Ellroy novel justice.

      Words to the Wise. You can't really take anything James Ellroy says in interviews seriously.
