Born from a military background, it's not surprising to discover that go-anywhere attitude backing up the Hummer brand. This mindset was best exemplified by the late Hummer H1
Realizing that not everyone would want the civilian equivalent of a Humvee, the company added the Hummer H2, available as an SUV and as a pickup dubbed the H2 SUT (sport utility truck). Still plenty capable, the H2 shares its platform with the Chevrolet Silverado, whereas the most recent product to debut, the Hummer H3 and H3T (the pickup truck version), is based on the Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon.
Hummer was created as a civilian version of the Humvee (HMMWV, High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle), a military vehicle developed by AM General during the 1980s. The first model, simply called the Hummer, was launched by AM General in 1992, seven years before General Motors took ownership of the company. After that change, the Hummer was renamed the Hummer H1 and GM worked on expanding the brand's line up and broadening exposure to the mainstream market.
The results of those efforts could be seen in the Hummer H2, a rugged off-road SUV that offered attitude and sheer mass not found in many competing vehicles. A pickup version of that utility vehicle, dubbed the Hummer H2 SUT, followed. By 2006, the Hummer H1 had reached the end of its line, but the resulting void made room for the Chevy Colorado-based Hummer H3, available with a five-cylinder engine in standard guise or as the V8-powered Hummer H3 Alpha. A pickup version, the Hummer H3T, is also available, as is the more luxurious Hummer H3x.

can't describe how amazing it feels to drive these in the army compared to other veichles. even the 5.6 ton armored version can go drifting in the mud! but the breaks aren't that good, and in a 8 hours shift it will drink up to 10-15 gallons of diesel.

Comfort in a civilian vehicle and comfort in a military vehicle are two completely separate things. Military vehicles aren't meant to have interiors full of leather and wood. Suspension, space and not being hit by a 7.62 through paper thin metal walls are pretty god damn comfortable to me.

The H1 is an amazing vehicle. It is easy to drive and very capable in all terrains.
My next project is to buy a used one and bring it back into spec. but add a Duramax LML engine and an Allison six-speed transmission.

I traded my muscle car for a 1990 M998. Mainly because of this election and snow. This thing is a beast. I have the tan truck type. One of my better choices in this life. Big Time fun.

Ford makes a quality truck that's for sure. Raptors are bad ass I like them, probably my favorite ford pickup. I wanna get something more modern soon. It was a fun thanksgiving enjoying the H1 with the family. Happy Holidays friend.

That V6 sounds like a weed wacker and it's such a heartbreak because i think its modernly very handsome. If i ever got one a V8 or diesel switch out for sure.

Now this is what an SUV should be: durable enough for the most extreme off-road use, yet with creature comforts to drive comfortably anywhere. And with a diesel engine to boot. I like that. It's too bad it's no longer being sold for general public use.

swimmer the gas mileage on a surplus humvee is actually pretty good i did afound 200+ miles before filling up
I filled mine up twice so far and drove all over my damn mountain. I was happy about that as well. still got like half a tank and snow just hit so today will be fun.

So many people are stupid and hating on hummer i have 2 hummers 1 being used another one never used before waiting in a storage space i can say the hummer is allot better then the normal jeep that people say will do just as good yes they can do just as good but the design of the hummer and the stuff in it makes it allot better,

I was looking for one too but they're only allowed for of road use only. I don't think you can use it as a daily driver. If you know where I can get one for daily use let me know.

There's a limiter. There are sports cars that struggle to get to 70mph though. They were wrong though, it does not handle like a sports car.
Lmao I almost fell over when I heard that. Mine is a total nightmare at 50. I have my run flats in though, definitely effects ride quality. It is actually very nimble and tight feeling behind the wheel. It turns fine at speed, the motor just revs high and it makes me feel like I don't want an engine Overhaul. Big money. Not a highway rig but very fun on my property.

@Ultra9k Horsepower, the measurement of mechanical power is a function of both Torque & the angular velocity of the power source. The ratios by which they are applied can be altered via gearing or at the source via altering the design of the engine that is generating power. For lower speed offroad travel an engine that generates peak power with a high torque to Angular velocity (RPM) ratio is desirable. Diesel engines by design offer such ratios. The opposite is desirable in a race car.

It's fair to say horse power and torque are not related, a bus generates relatively low HP but exceptionally high torque.
The Jeep I own, 3.0 Mercedes diesel, more torque than 5.7 HEMI, but lower HP.
Mitsubishi evo, very high bhp, low torque - eg towing or fully loaded it would struggle.
Military vehicles including tanks weighing 40+tonnes may produce1000 hp, but 1000hp will not move that weight alone, and it calculate to 25hp per tonnes, but 25,000 lb/ft of torque will.
