I mean the lots are full sometimes now, so at some point they won't be able to hold out at those prices anymore, unless we consumers give up and buy and keep feeding them and allowing to leave the elevated prices (currenlty not justified anymore) for longer...

There are no certainties, only probabilities, but all signs are pointing to the car market finally seeing a significant drop in prices (that is already happening). Rising jobless rates, low consumer confidence, persistent inflation and high cost of living, paired with a large percentage of people underwater on cars they purchased over the last 3 years is a recipe for disaster if you are a dealer. The main thing I think could counteract that would be a decrease in production but at some point you have to make cars people can afford.

I just bought a used truck, 2007 Ford F150, but I think I got a deal. Original owner passed away, the neighbor bought the truck so the wife could move away. He said he would send her any money over what he paid for it from her. So this truck was babied. Is clean in and out no rust and came with new tires
, wheels, running boards. All fluids had been changed and I mean all 3 months ago. This 2007 has 69,000 miles on it. Has a bed liner, tow package, XM radio, everything works. The only issue I found was one of the tire sensors was on and need replaced. I took it to my guy and he just turned them off. These deals don't come along very often and paying under $10,000.00 for a truck this nice doesn't happen often...

Others have asked this same question: is it a bad time to buy a new car during spring tax season or does that only apply to used cars? The head gasket on my car died in January and i'm still research what my next car will be. my saving grace is that i work from home all the time. so i'm not completely desperate for a car for ever day. When i had a running car, it stayed parked 5 days out of the week in recent years. that being said, i'm not sure how much longer to wait to buy something else. I didn't want to spend $$$ to fix my car since it's already 18 years old and over 200k miles on it. I don't have a backup car so... money spent on cabs, uber and occasional car rentals for errands and doctor appointments will add up quick. I want to wait for a sensible deal but i don't know how much longer it will make sense. never thought i'd consider a brand new car because historically they depreciate so much. but it almost sounds like a sensible new-ish car might be better than used unless you're planning to get something pretty dated.

I’m a very similar boat. I gave myself a $20k budget I may go 21 but definitely trying to stay below $20k walking out the door and no BS warranty extensions. I used my bank for a loan and they gave me a huge list of pre certified owned cars, I found a Kia for $20,500 and after taxes they try to hit me with $22,700. I asked them do better, they said Kia doesn’t do that. So I told them, I don’t need a car as along as my friend works at a car rental because he’s been hooking me up with a super cheap low price of $15 a day. His uncle owns a car rental, so they begged and asked what it would take for me to sign that day and leave with the car. I told them for one, I’m not buying a car today I can’t leave with it because I have a rental, they offered to tow it to my place. I said no, not today. He then came back and said my manager will give you the family discount of $500 off. I said no, not signing. Told them I’d go home and think about it for the weekend, he told me I’m not going to bother you and text you over the weekend. The very next morning at 8am he sends me a morning greeting and text like we’ve been buddies since day one. I read it so he can see and didn’t respond back until the following weekend. I didn’t greet him, I just sent him a link to a dealer that was selling a similar Kia for less but with an extra 2k miles and told him if he can match I’ll pick it up in the same day. He called me about 10 minutes later and said, we normally don’t do this but I went out my way to fight for you to get you the car you desperately want. Come to the office and it’s yours for $20,500 out the door no bs hassles and add ons my word! He even offered to pick me up. I will buy the car this weekend. One of my friends told me to wait until the end of the month because they desperately have to hit quotas but after telling what I did he said good you played it right. If I wait another I could lose the car since I did notice the mileage went up like 80 miles on it since a few people have test driven it. I truly believe I’m getting a good deal. Also, it’s a 2022 Kia w/15,300 miles one owner and it’s practically brand new. That’s my story to you if it helps, but I was very patient for 6 months because I too didn’t really the car that bad but sometimes I miss just going out whenever without having to wait for an Uber or friend to pick me up or leave a place whenever I choose to and not depend on someone else to pick me up. Good luck, I’m sure you will do well.

So let me get this straight, a so-called depreciating asset, a car, is going up in value because it's tax refund time, even though we're in a period of unprecedented, delinquent car loans, student loans, vehicle repossessions, inflation, i.e. food, clothing, insurance (home and auto), high-interest rates and now people going to just take their tax return and not pay down other debts just to further into debt for an overpriced used car? No wonder car dealers won't lower the price of cars especially if they know the consumer will still make poor purchasing decisions.

I have been watching your videos for several months. It is always "wait a few weeks. wait a few months". At this rate it was becoming a mirage in the desert. I bought a 2022 Toyota Highlander Platinum AWD last week. The dealer tried to play hardball, but I offered about 3k less than what it was listed for online, which was considered a "great deal". They balked at my offer and we left, but they called back and took the offer before we got home. It was a cash deal, and we walked out for exactly what our offer was. No fees, no warranties. I had them reduce the price of the vehicle to offset the doc fee. The car has 35k miles. They wanted to sell me a 100k mile warranty (which is actually a 65k mile warranty) for $5,000. The 12 month warranty was $3000. I had to pass on those.

I just recently bought a 2012 toyota 4runner, 102k miles, 20k$, the body and inside is perfect, whole car feels solid. I got a 500$ discount for driver side door lock actuator being broken, but then i bought one off amazon for 25$, installed in 45 mins. I paid in cash, so i didnt hear anything else past 9% interest loan before i said, cash. It even came with stupidly huge monster truck tires, which im selling.

My question: If you’re trading in a car, then the price fluctuations don’t matter as much. If the used cars are cheaper after Memorial Day, then your Trade is cheaper. If the used cars are more expensive, then your trade is more valuable. The only way it makes financial sense following your explanation is if you Trade in Spring, rent a car until after Memorial Day, and then buy. Of course that doesn’t make financial sense since you’ll be paying $$$ for your rental. Unless Ray has another explanation?

GMC is one of manufactures who will not let you trade with other brands if you lease! They tried to lowball me with trade offers of 36,000 and 38,000 and terrible deals on new GMC trucks! I have leased 7 GMC trucks since 1998, 3-year leases! With the restrictions on trading, I found the loophole!!! Find dealers who own GMC dealership, makes no difference on brand and Ford or Dodge store as well, and in smaller cities and family owned! I was able to get 42,000 for trade and a 62,000 F150-XLT hard loaded, no sunroof and fabric instead of leather for 55,000! With nothing down only first payment, 36 months with 18,000 miles a year, 719.00 per month versus 950-1100 at other dealers including 2 GMC dealers and 2 Toyota dealers! Do your shopping, travel a couple of hours to smaller towns and save big!
