I wonder why the poster of this video put the heading of I will not give you monopoly. The immediate past administration of president Muhammadu Buhari awarded and paid for rehabilitation of Port Harcourt and Kaduna refinery and gave support for other modular refineries and supported Dangote and BUA refineries also. Was there ever any “monopoly” for Dangote?! 🤔 At least 28 licenses for private refineries had been issued (dating all the way back to the Obasanjo administration) BEFORE Dangote even received a refining license. Even in cement, the world’s biggest cement producers (LaFarge, Holcim, etc.) have been operating in Nigeria since the 1950s/60s. Accordingly, any whine of a Dangote “monopoly” is simply a LAZY contraption by those too inept to compete.
Our people have big problem. I understand the effect of monopoly on business/economy. But in a country where its crude oil has long been exported abroad to refine and then shipped back at such a huge expense, now we have a locally owned refinery by a person of the soil, preventing cost of exportation and tax to foreign land, employment opportunities to the locals and reduce forex all we care about is Dangote monopoly. Do we really know what we want? Dangote is a single largest employer of labor employer of labor in Nigeria as of March 2023. Who cares if Dangote refinery is the only one in the entire Africa? I will rather take that than exporting our oil to a foreign land. Don't get me wrong, the more the merrier. As much as it's a welcomed development, there is no known developed or developing nation that's characterized by MONOPOLY. This simply explains one of the reasons why the nation's economy is in coma. For example, it hasn't helped in prices of goods like cement, flour etc under monopolistic chokehold. The system should ban economic monopoly and encourage liberalization of the market for healthy competition. This will ultimately end price gouging and help stabilize the market price of goods.

There is also the politics and economics of alternative energy transition. Some countries rely heavily on fossil resources for their national revenues. I am talking about powerful nations like Russia and Saudi Arabia. They would not allow a substantial part of their critical revenue streams to be cut off without a viable and sustainable replacement. It will undermine their capacity to govern which could lead to chaos. So, the world will still need to figure out how to address varying global interests related to the push for an alternative energy transition. This will take some time.

Nigeria needs at least 20 refineries. Texas has 23 big refineries and it is same size as nigeria.
