  • Arizona State’s Léon Marchand may not look like one of the best swimmers in the world, but that’s what he is, and he’ll be gunning for multiple gold medals - and possible world records - at the World Aquatics Championships this month.

Léon Marchand has said on several occasions that he owes a lot to Bob Bowman over the last two years, especially in correcting his shortcomings in the backstroke and freestyle, in his rather unique approach to the top level, with the NCAAS, which were a completely new form of competition for him, but also that he was trained from the start in Toulouse, France, by Nicolas Castel, who taught him everything and took him to the world junior podium and then to the Olympic final in Tokyo. And who is currently still his second coach and will be with him in Fukuoka, in conjunction with Bob Bowman.

C'est un bassin de 25 yard, soit 22.8 m, donc oui c'est un peu plus petit qu'en France. Sinon c'est normal de s'entraîner en petit bassin, tous les nageurs alternent entre entre petit et grand bassin.

I have no concern. I as a former nationally ranked swimmer am just lookingat it from a different perspective. We have been training athletes from other countries for years. I am just saying come olympic time! These athletes that were 100% trained in US by US will be recognized as champions from their native country. Again no issue... I love how swimming has morphed over the last 30 years! I just don't know how I feel about gold medals and world records going to a country that didn't train the athlete.

I’m sure ASU gets a lot out of having him in the squad. It’s more like a symbiotic relationship. All the world class French swimmers who joined a university in the US (from Bousquet to Marchand including Agnel and others) were already world class before joining. I really doubt your universities do it out of charity.

He was formed in France but is actually training in the us. Just like Griezmann for exemple was formed in France but is in Spain since several years. Yet he represent France during world cup and it is normal
