Like me getting caught in Rio smoking a fat ass joint in a plaza in the center of the city, cops used psychological torture, humiliated me and made fun of my mental health, besides being homophobic (I'm not even homosexual, I just had nail polish on a couple nails) and forcing their political views on me
Yes it was dumb, it was probably the worst place in Brazil to smoke a joint since Rio's been under military intervention this last couple years.
But as always, and contrary to what the black cop told me, they don't arrest white guys for weed. Not even @ fucking Rio on a heavy monitored plaza @8pm on a Sunday, I've heard stories about white guys getting slapped on the face or just screamed at.
Meanwhile my poorer and darker skinned cousin has been arrested (as a drug trafficker since using, possessing and growing weed for personal use is penalized with a fee at Max) and in his arrest he had way less stuff than I had in Rio (a cigarette, 2 lighters, papers, grinder, weed and a lit 3.5+g joint)

Here in Portugal it is all good as long as you don't have huge amounts with you, if you are smoking just a joint the Police will say to put it out and maybe give a little search and ask to go somewhere else.
I usually smoke in my room, chilling but don't feel paranoid when smoking outdoors. In another country I would panic just to think about light one up.

It may not be as severe as the other ones, but it can be very harmful in terms of mental health.
I been there myself when I was a daily smoker for 4 years, told myself it's "medicine" and "not a drug",
but in the end, my depression got worse, I isolated myself even more, only hung around people that did drugs, barely talked to family,
and felt even more useless than before.
Been clean for over a year now, and my depression is gone, I gave myself some new goals (before I had none, I just wanted to stay high 24/7)
and I'm fighting for them now, my relationships with friends and family is good now aswell. I would never trade this life for a life with weed again.
