    I never understand the attraction to a knife with this kind of price tag until i bought one. I purchased a large Sebenza 21 with the Tanto blade and put a "Wicked Edge" on it, polished the washers and it is now my EDC!

    Nice review, earned this sub. The 31 inlay pattern was used previously on the “Annuals” which were produced between 2002 and 2010 if memory serves.

      Oh wow. I didn't know they had used the 31 inlay style that long ago?
      I gotta to say, I may be in the minority, but I prefer the old two-piece inlay style on the 21.
      The only exception for me is the new Box Elder Burl Inlay on the 31 just like in this video. It looks so good in the new large one piece Inlay in my opinion.
      My absolute favorite Chris Reeve all time is the Sebenza 21 polished titanium scales with a two-piece Thuya Burl Inlay...Wow! Classic

    The first thing I do to the Sabenza is have the thumb stud swapped out to double thumb studs. I have herd that ever since Chris Reeve stepped down and let his son Tim take over the business, they have had a few QC issues. I will say it’s mostly minor stuff like the uneven bevel on yours, but they also sentbout a couple batches that were labeled s35vn that were actually s45vn. I’m sure they will get back in order soon tho.
    Great review thx 👍🏼

      I give respect and props to Tim Reeve for stepping up and taking the helm of this very storied company. I can’t imagine how challenging it is to uphold the standards that his father set but I’m sure he’ll take this company to the next level. I also give him a lot of grace in that I’m sure its a lot to learn but over time it’s gonna get better for sure

      My small Sebenza 31 that I bought exactly 1 year ago had a misaligned bevel blade and a chip in it. Also had lockrock. Got annoyed looking at it after 5 months and sent it in. It came back with a new blade, no lockrock and they seem to have glass blasted it. It was under warranty, so no cost. Super happy with it now! Looking for a large Sebenza eventually.

    With about two dozen 21's of many types... I have a hard time welcoming the 31. I don't want to start things or pick sides. However, in my opinion, the 31 is acceptable but not great like the 21. All new models have to fight for acceptance though.
    I love the CRK Nyala as my weekend fixed blade. I was lucky to get the gray/black version. I liked it enough to get two more before they finally all sold out.

    • @these7seas
      @these7seas  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah it’s hard to hit off the iconic 21 for sure! I’ve actually never handled the Nyala but it looks beautiful just like all the other CRK models. I carry an ESEE 3 HM for all my fixed blade needs but there’s just something so elegant about the Nyala for sure

    • @EssenceofPureFlavor

      The only differences are blade steel, pocket clip cant and the ceramic lock ball.

    • @ToxicityAssured
      @ToxicityAssured Před 2 měsíci

      @@EssenceofPureFlavor Not that it matters, but chamfers are different in several places on the handle. What's more significant is the stop pin is one piece of hardened steel with two screws on the 31. The 21 stop pin is another Chicago screw with a softer steel bushing around it. It's too long to explain here, but it's a big difference. 31's shipping with loctite..? Hmm. The inlays are different too, but that's off topic. What about the hole in the handle? I've been all around the CRK block and know a thing or two. I have my preferences. Chris ran the Ti lock bar on steel blade setup on many knives for so long and it was so seldom an issue. Of course, the ceramic ball is also a good lock.

    i think that the unevenness of the bevel is because the sharpening is the only thing they do kinda by hand? i mean, the factory bevel is convex (one of the verrrry few, if not the only production knife with one), which is usually done by hand, not by machine

    Do you think all the hype about the S45VN is really worth it? Or would you choose S35VN

    • @these7seas
      @these7seas  Před 3 lety +4

      Honestly in use I don’t think we will notice any major difference. I don’t think there’s an up charge for s45vn but it’s more about the waiting period until CRK fully transitions over. For my everyday needs (house chores, camp, hiking) s35vn is more than adequate. I think s45vn really appeals to those who want the latest and greatest or really into steel and metallurgy. Which I totally understand.
