Superman Super Suit Evolution 1939 - 1975
Superman Super Suit Evolution 1939 - 1975 - Zábava
The first explanation for Superman's suit (circa 1940) was that he made it himself out of a fabric that he invented himself. Take that, Ma Kent!
The direct quote, after Luthor's booby-trapped cave pours a vat of acid on the Man of Tomorrow: ""Good thing for my uniform that it's constructed of a cloth I invented myself which is immune to the most powerful forces!" ("Luthor's Incense Menace" in Superman #5, June 1940).
Good find.
5:14 not only is lex luthor’s machine a reuse of the wizard’s machine in the 1949 Batman movie serial but lex luthor is played by Lyle Talbot who previously played commissioner Gordon in Batman.
Great video 👍. Genuinely enjoy it and it's a great rundown of lore and history so thank you. Man of Steel is a pretty awesome Superman film too, far from any of the worst of DC.
As many have have said also, where is Part II? I'd genuinely like to see a next one and really have enjoyed your other Suit History videos
Please! We need part 2!
Okay, it;s been over a year. Time to make the follow-up to this.
He's just not going to follow this up it has been 4 years
So glad to see you back so soon! Keep up the great work and thanks for the vid!
2019, still no Part 2!
2020, still waiting.
@@robertt9342 lol.
2021 And I'm still Waiting
@@gambit8912 yup, it’s now March 2021 (the clocks went forward last night) & we’re still waiting!
Has Junkball addressed this, at all, in another video (I’ve not found anything)?
*Jeopardy Theme*
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? NO! It's a new video from Junkball Media! Faster than a new video upload was expected!
Love this Junk!! One of my favourite ever vids! You’re amazing as usual! I’d love to see the second part!
You really are back. This is brilliant!
That was Holly Parlance, daughter of Jack Palance (from Batman) in the Chris Reeve screen test.
So happy to see another video! Great topic to go with too!
Very informative as always.
AWESOME JOB. You covered everything. :)
thanks for part 2
0:11 He suddenly became animated!
That's how they made him fly back then. Then the George Reeves show did rear projection, and the reason the first Christopher Reeve movie was so groundbreaking was because they used so many varieties to make the flying look more convincing.
The kirk alyn suit was made of knit wool like what is used for uniforms. Because it is strong g and would be able to survive daily wear and tear & stunts.
The same material was used for captain marvel and flash Gordon's costumes.
2 videos in one week. that is awesome!!!! keep up the good work i love your videos
Two videos in one week. You are on fire!
I may not watch ALL of them again...just most of them.
That was so interesting thank you for posting :)
3:17 amazing shorts pulled way high just like they should be on a superman suit
Fantastic video! Keep it up!
3:20 that Superman cereal was awesome didn’t care much for the Batman one
Part 2, please! I want to see Christopher Reeve - Gerard Christopher next.
The only way Superman could have a super-suit is to have it pre-packed from Krypton in his rocket. Because Earth had no super-scissors or super-sewing-machine to construct it.
I suppose that's why in most versions the suit is made out of Earth materials and Superman's Bio-Electric Aura protects the suit that he's wearing.
There are also the other versions where the suit is actually a Kryptonians body suit or armor
Hello. Firstly please allow me to say that I enjoy your videos. I am looking forward to part two.
*THIS WAS PRETTY GOOD AND INFORMATIVE! THANKS.*
never watch these before falling asleep. NIGHTMARES
That Superpup image is gonna haunt me...FOREVER! O_o
_"The night of my parents' wake... priests words gave no comfort. Of course. There on my father's desk... ...the red book. His journal... He's written in it every day of my life. But now, he'd never write in it again. At that moment, I knew... my life would never be the same. I raced, out into the storm, trying to outrun the rage... pain... And the. I fell. I fell forever. Cave was monstrous. It just have been there for centuries. And there... deep in the shadows... I saw... It was coming toward me. I was scared at first, but only at first. The figure in the dark was my destiny. It would change my life forever. I would use it's image to strike terror into the hearts of those who did evil. I would ensure what happened to me would never happen to anyone else again. I would have my revenge."_
This my new favorite channel 🤗👍, everything is top notch!
Please do part 2 and part 3.
6:40 Why is this? Bothered me when I was a kid and still does.
I was in a production of "It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's Superman!", and the suit was just something we bought at the store. It was super (pun intended) tight on our lead, and we had to basically redo the whole thing because it was too small. The cape was trouble too, since we had to buy a different one.
If true, thanks for the info. Got any favorites Superman suits for the live action spectrum?
Yo Junk! I’d love to see the second part of this!!! Hello old dear friend!!! You’ve come a long way!!! You deserve all the success in the world!!! Bless you!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS featured a "death of superman" inspired scene. it has been implied by the production staff that the world that scene took place in was the universe (Earth-75) of the musical from the last entry on your list.
From what I saw that Superman was Gerard Christopher which places it in the universe of the Superboy tv series.
2 Videos from you in 1 weeks after a one year break
i have to be dreaming
well i hope you keep it up
HundertDampf y
well I'm a really glad I called In sick today....I might have missed this masterpiece.
+HistoricNerd I'm trying to figure out some off days at work myself. Working on anything new?
working on a video about the Sega SVP chip had to dig through the Japanese patent office to find what I wanted to know for the video.
+HistoricNerd That's dedication. I look forward to it.
Glad to hear it! I figure i have to use my history degree for something once and a while.
Yeah, An Art & Humanities education finds strange ways of expressing itself outside of school. I did journalism and creative nonfiction myself. The way I see it, BA degrees cultivates methods of observing, appreciating and communicating the world around us. Definitely undervalued in today's world.
Neat video, interesting channel, I think that I'll subscribe. Peace and love!
Great content. Keep it up!
"KAAN !" "KAAN"!!!
another video!!! awesome!
I have missed you guys severely.
Man of Steel was awesome!
*Is.*
Please make part 2 & 3
Your opening edits are always so great.
Thanks. It was actually a last minute add on. You can thank my wife. I was trying to shave production time off by not doing an intro. My wife saw the first cut, objected to the non-intro so I went back and made one.
Junkball Media
But you already knew that.
Your wife made a great call IMO. I always look forward to your creative and amusing intros.
good you made a 2nd vid since your return..keepin your promise
welcome back.
i don't know why, but i missed you
The superboy pilot has a cave like in smallville
You’re lit !!!
The voices for the character of"The Adventures Of Superpup" were performed by Dallas McKennon.
And so, my annual trek back to this video ends the same way as it always does; still only a Part 1. Someday, I hope this changes.
Damnit.
WHERE SEQUEL BE AT!
nice!
where is part 2 and 3
Where’s the link
Daily Bugle? Missed opportunity not calling it the Daily Beagle.
That’s not Leslie Ann Warren in the 1978 Superman The Movie screen tests. It’s actress Holly Palance.
FYI, Mayo Kaan lived some 30 years after those Superman photos became public in the early 1970s so he was not "nearing the end of his life." In recent years, via the Newspaper Archives, it has come out that he was a lifeguard who dressed in a homemade Superman suit to help sell war bonds in WWII. He was never, as he claimed a model for DC, never made early Superman movies as he said he did. He was on talk shows and panel shows in the '70s and later he and his daughter started selling art prints of him in his Superman outfit. She continued to insist his claims were real and to sell the limited edition prints after his death. Oh, and there's some question as to whether it was Ray Middleton in the suit at the World's Fair, too, but there's "proof" for both yes and no...and that's another whole can of worms.
Superman!
MIND BLOWN! I have always believed the definitive Superman costume and look was finally nailed down with Christopher Reeve in the 1978 Superman movie. But hang on a second! Just look at that photo of Bob Holiday from 1966! (9:12) He looks like the PERFECT Superman, and he pre-dates Reeve by ten years!
Seeing that Captain Howdy scene from Exorcist made me wonder if that movie was ripped off by, sorry, an influence on The Shining....
And where's part 2!?
I can't find Part 2, wtsup?
You did 1939 to 1975 of superman suits but where's the rest? What happen to parts 2 & 3?
Your return was foretold by the ancient scrolls
I wonder what happened to the white Super suit from when Superman was frozen, I'll bet that must be collector's item
According to Whitney Ellsworth, Kirk Alyn was never approached to do the 1950's TV series.
If your looking for something comedic & quirky along these same lines, check out the Hollywood Palace episode, when Batman( Adam West ) appeared in a sketch with Milton Berle( Superman ). Milton's "S" on his supersuit was obviously taken from the George Reeves suit, and Milton's cape was still draping off the shoulders and barely attached. In fact, at one point in the sketch, one of the cape attachments became undone, although the running gag seemed to be that everytime MIlton stepped into the phone booth inside his apartment to change into superman, his supersuit kept getting more & more disheveled & undone.
If you take a look at photos of Charles Atlas, he looks a lot like the original Superman. A friend of mine's father was a studio tailor. He told her of sewing George Reeves into the costume. Reeves wasn't actually that muscular.
That added padding on George Reeves is terrible.
At least Adam West didn't need padded muscles to add to his physique...... Pure West.
Still missing Episodes II - IX on the Superman Super Suit Evolution.
10:11 That’s Holly Palance.
another video!!! keep it up please!!!
When's part II coming out ;)
3:32 ...Why does Clark's mom know that the cloth resists both fire and acid?
would love info on how you are able to use OMD music behind the video and not get a strike.
love that song. thanks for any info on that.
I wish you going to upload part 2
when is the second video going to come out
And 3 years later where is the part 2?
When's part 2 coming out
Nice video.
Where's that suit origin at in the Jan. 1945 issue of what comic?
Cheeeeeeeeeeese! I never heard of this Superman you speak of. Thanks for the video. Even though I am on ur poop list :)
+Chapman Films He's an obscure character from the early days of comics. This video was a mistake. I should've picked a more recognizable character to cover.
Naw keep going with part 2 I am very interested now.
How could you have not heard of Superman? Most of my friends have seen Superman fly past their house, and it's also quite common to see Superman helping people fill their cars at filling stations.
Did Part 2 get Deleted or some shit?
@Junkball, it’s now March 2021 (the clocks went forward last night)! WHEN IS PART 2 COMING OUT?!?! 😔😣😫
More than a year later and still no part 2.....
guess he never did a part 2, can't find it on here. thats a shame
No, it doesn't seem like he got round to it.
That's what I was going to say! Thanks for confirming!!☹️
para mi cristhoper revee
siempre fue el primer y
mejor superman no hay
ningún otro ni siquiera
estos que fueron los
primeros súpermanes
Asked him on twitter a while back
He send a gif of superman nodding no
The early movie Superman, because it was shot in black & white instead of color, was not blue and red, but gray and brown, because it showed up better.
I’m guessing there’s not going to be a part 2
It's almost 2020, and still no Part Deux, Where are you Junkball Guy?
Superboy was played by Johnny Rockwell (Superman Serial to Cereal)
10:20 Looks like this test was before Reeve bulked up for the part. He's so skinny!
I got to say the Man of Steel suit is probably my favorite.
I myself personally prefer the Batman v Superman suit. Any new favorites?
That was HOLLY PALANCE in the Lois Screen Test.
Where is the part 2
Audition Lois was gorgeous as fuck. 💯
Good Gawd 2 vids in a week?!?
Also, how would his mother know the cloth resists both fire and acid? She must really have tried to destroy the evidence.
+quazz79 And of course she just has acid laying around the Kent Farm.
Resists fire and acid, but apparently not scissors....
Nearly 4 years later and part 2 still hasn't come
do you think you could do a video on Battlestar Galactica?
10:20 - Do you eat? EEEEEEEEAAAAT!!!!
Do part 2
Lesley Ann Warren did audition for Superman: The Movie, but that wasn't her in the clip you showed.
+romero329 You're right. Bonehead mistake on my part.
Yep. The actress playing Lois there was Holly Palance, daughter of Jack Palance who played crime boss Carl Grissom in the '89 Batman movie.
Good catch and nice connection.
@@JunkBallMedia Holly Palance was in the opening scene Richard Donner's THE OMEN (he directed SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE). He asked her to audition.
