- PART 5. BUTTERMERE TO BRAITHWAITE
Leg 5 of the UK's premier trail ultra marathon The Montane lakeland 100. This leg takes us from the beautiful village of Buttermere over the North Western fell of the Lake District into the village of Braithwaite.
Sections 5 - 7 of the race are in the Northern most part of the Lake District, an area I don't often visit so I really enjoyed this section.
I hope you enjoy watching as much as I enjoyed running it.
Great watch. Excellent sound and fab views. Look after that knee.
Another excellent video, loving this series. Best fell running content out there. Go through similar dialogue in my own head when out and about. Thank you for putting this content out.
Nice to hear cheers Mike. Glad you’re enjoying it, there’s more to come 🤘🏻
Love that valley, stunning. Thank you once again for sharing.
Great video as per usual John. I must say your production quality is absolutely superb, displaying a beautiful yet underrated part of the Lakes. Can’t wait for the next leg of the run. 🎉⛰️
Cheers Rowan I appreciate that. It’s an awesome part of the Lakes, well worth the effort getting around there 👌🏻
Awesome video, mega inspiring, motivational and informative, (plus you can't beat a Dad joke or two 😄) Excellent work 👍
Cheeky stuff- am enjoying the series 👍
Cheers mate, good to hear. There’s more in the pipeline 👌🏻
Nice run out for you. Great scenery. Best wishes on the next.
Really scenic part of the route today. Hope your knee is recovering ok.
Ah cheers man, yeah it’s behaving at the moment 👌🏻
Hi John
I’m really enjoying your videos
I live close to the Lake District and do a lot of hiking there
I’m 76 and done a fair bit of road running in the past but not for a while
Like you I’ve got a dodgy knee
To much pounding the tarmac you’ve inspired me to do some fell running
I’ve done a couple of easy five milers in the hills it felt good
Hope to keep it up
All the best
Alan
Good to hear Alan. You should definitely get out on the trails. I definitely want to be running when I’m 76 so good effort! I find trail running easier on my body.. it’s a more natural movement.. speed changes, cadence change, up hill, down hill. Stopping, starting.. the relentless and repetitive action of road running has always taken its toll on my joints. Don’t get me wrong it has its place but I definitely prefer trails.
@@lakelandtrailrunner thanks John keep the great videos coming 👍👍
Brilliant Alan. Good motivation for others (esp me) to run in the fells 👏
Thanks Simon, you’ve got to use it or lose it 🏃🏻♂️👍
Love your videos John, great work! :)
Cheers mate glad you’re liking them 👍🏻
Loved this route John, will try it next time I’m up there.
Glad you liked it mate. It’s a nice corner of the Lakes.. I don’t get up there enough.
This is hands down my favourite part of the route... I always miss the last turn off 🙂
Haha it’s a sneaky one!
Wow, incredible scenery.
It is mate. I love it over this part of the Lakes 👌🏻
Well done John , loving the video’s can’t wait to be out there myself 👍
Cheers mate. Glad you’re liking them 👌🏻🙂
Did this one yesterday, we’re on Motorhome site at Braithwaite so followed your route in reverse had a sausage roll and a coffee in Buttermere and bombed it back 😃, quads are a bit of a mess this morning though
Cheers 😊
@@Laughinggravy857 nice one! Glad it was a good day for you 👌🏻
Hope you made it back to Buttermere in time for your well deserved bit of chocolate cake 👍
Great video. I'm doing the organised recce tomorrow. Buttermere to Dalemain.
Nice one man glad you enjoyed it. Looks like you’ll have a dry day for tomorrow, hope it goes well :)
@John Miles | Lakeland Trail Runner Hope so. Off to bed now as I've got to leave at 4.30am 🤦♂️
@@Ecoroof1986 ouch! 😬
YOU feel unfit?! No chance for the rest of us. Another really enjoyable video John. I would have ended on the cake back at Buttermere though! I was going to pull the trigger on the Scott’s supertrac 3, but see you’ve got new ones. Do they feel any better?
La Sportiva Mutant.. another awesome shoe mate. Slightly higher drop at 10mm. Great for the down hills. Well cushioned.. don’t know what the stack height is. I use both.
Out of interest,do you you find any detrimental effect on your running,if you had a couple ( not excessive) ,drinks the day before?
Ummm.. to be honest I don’t drink that much anyway. However, when I do.. as long as I don’t drink too many to affect my sleep.. I’ve found 1 or 2 pints is good for that. Anymore and I’m groggy in the morning.
@@lakelandtrailrunner My interest is in the liver and how important it is for fueling a run, hence alcohol having an effect.
@@alanrobinson2229 ah I see. In that case I’m not the best to ask. I don’t drink the night before a day of running on the fells.
You’re body will have to work harder once it becomes depleted, so you’re fighting yourself. You’re basically trying to eliminate a toxin whilst trying to restore you’re body with fuel on the hoof. Dehydration is the culprit. A couple of pints is ok tho, it’s carbs.
@@buffywhatever1093 @alanrobinson2229 - Alan, what Buffy said. Don’t need to worry too much about liver function and metabolism, it’s purely a hydration issue. Something I’ve found that helps me is have a rehydrating / electrolyte tablet in a pint of water before and after a couple of drinks. Never feel and adverse effects for exercise the next day 👌🏼
