Probably some of the most thrilling moments of my life were back in the 1960s when I rode the bombardier's seat on several WB-50 flights in Japan. The WB-50 was basically the same aircraft as the B-29 with more powerful engines and a modified tail section. Quite a view from that seat in the nose.
Watching you folks fly over the exact same terrain and coastline I used to fly over in the late 70's (when I was a young pilot) just brought tears to my eyes. And the "systems management" of this aircraft is just freakin' awesome. I can't even imagine what it's like to sit in the Bombardier seat, let alone the Flight Engineer's seat! I repeat: Just freakin' AWESOME!! Thank you SO MUCH for this video.
I’m a lucky man and live in Wichita. I get to see the latest restoration of a B29 Doc. It’s a rare treat to hear Doc lumbering away under the power of those massive radials. The heavy sound of those engines tells you Doc is up without even see him. I’ll dash out into the open to watch as Doc flies over on those rare few times. 🇺🇸
I pay great respect to the one's whom took their lives into such a rattle trap, that was so very difficult to fly. God bless these that done so! Great Video!
It was cutting edge when it was put into service. You calling it a rattle trap is like calling a B2 Spirit a rattle trap. The crew of the era thought it was the height of technology.
thank you so much for this video. my Grandfather's crew tested and flew countless missions on the B-29. Seeing this video made my eyes water and miss him and my Grandmother along with all the story's he passed down to me. It's a shame that younger generations do not know the history and how important the sacrifices of those brave men who flew on those runs and the women who were hear building bombs like my Grandmother or the rosie riveter's who built those planes. One of my favorite story's and i could be wrong but as far as i know his crew were the only ones to land a fully loaded B-29 somehow the emergency life raft got loose and got caught up on the tail shortly after take off they turned her around and made an emergency landing and the old ship held up but the funnest part was every one on that base came out to watch them stack that ship up all over the runway. He told me the first bounce or impact they had on touchdown caused a 500 lb bomb to get loose and started rolling towards the hanger and there audience to scatter like roaches of couse the arming pin was still in it but i bet that was quite a site. Even in that situation they managed to get a good chuckle out of that. every one walked away and was fine but i bet that was some ride he and his crew went on to walk away from 3 low altitude crashes. I remember when ho told me about the last B-29 was restored and maintained by the Confederate Air Force sometime in the eighties I asked him wouldn't it be neat to revisit that ship? He said "Hell no I walked off that son of a bitch 40 years ago i'm not getting back on it" my mom told me he figured he had been lucky enough to make it threw the war he did not want to push his luck. I hope one day that i can go for a flight on that ship it would be worth every penny to be that close to my Grandfather and be able to pass that story down to my children along with all of his story's, Thanks again for the wonderful video and the chance to share this little piece of history.
Well. Thanks to your grandfather, his crew and all the other pilots Europe is free. What would've happen if Nazi-Germany took over the whole world? I don't wanna think of that. Those kids these days don't know how hard it must've been to fight for freedom. No. They only have their 'consoles' and play games which they kill each other in.
Thanks for taking the time to film, edit and post this. It is a fascinating piece of history! Hopefully I will have the honor of seeing FiFI in person one day.
This is the closest I'll ever get to flying in a B-29, but it really is marvelous watching in full screen. Thanks for inviting us along to experience some important history. This really is an incredible thing that can easily be taken for granted, but I really do appreciate this! Many sincere thanks.
Thanks so much for sharing your video.I took some pics & tour of her at Punta Gorda Airport in Southwest Florida during a Air Show.Man she sure is a Great Bird from the Past.May her Flights continue for Many more Years. Thanks again.
Most of the time, these were crewed by "kids" during WW-2. It was rare to find anyone older than 25! Even Paul Tibbetts was in his 20's when he and his crew dropped the bomb on Hiroshima.
" SIMPLEMENTE FANTASTICO ESTE VIDEO " con la tripulacion heroica, para mi fue fascinante ver volar de nuevo un B-29 de la II guerra mundial. mis respetos a todosy tambien a esos heroes aviadores que ya no estan.
The man said after the flight, this was super. But yes it was super. That's why they call the B-29 the superfortress. I got to be close to one in Texas back in 1966 when I was stationed in Texas in the Air Force. Back than I called it Super. I've been following the WWII Warbirds just about my whole life and also worked on them. It's been a good ride.
Saw this baby in College Station, Texas, a few years ago, sat in the front etc, stood under one of the engines talking with an engineer about the oil on the ground, he said not to worry, they only get concerned when it stops dripping!
Beautiful breathtaking giant, isn't she! Thank you so much for sharing that, it gives me a taste of what a awesome experience it must have been to fly on her, unfortunately my pockets didn't quite fit the bill. However, I was fortunate enough to the next best thing, get a look inside while she was on tour here in Salt Lake City, Utah! What a magnificent bird!
This was just amazing, I would love to see this Aircraft. My Father was in the Air Force and he loved the old Bombers. in Fact as a Fathers day gift one year I purchased a 1/48 scale model of this type aircraft for him. He kept telling me he was going to build it when he had the time. however he passed from a stroke a couple years ago. and I just took the model out of storage and decided to build it as a reminder of my father. And this video is helping to answer question on colors of the interior. Wish Fi Fi would attend one of the airshows at my local airport one day. I live in ohio and my local airport here in Akron/Canton has an airshow every year in late summer. would be amazing to see this plane there. as well as flying over the city.
And the attack on the Death Star was based on 617 Dam Buster Squadron... even the targeting computer, Storm Troopers were the Waffen SS, Turbolasers were 88s (ray guns with recoil.... lol), and the Y-Wings were the hapless Fairy Battles/Bolton Paul Defiants/Douglas Devastators..... big, slow, and hopelessly out classed. I hope George Lucas supports his veterans.
Cabin entrance through the nosewheel hatch, I can remember my short 1968 study excursion to KIev General Aviation Institute, the same way to Tupolev Tu-104 airliner cabin, good engineering practice!
GREAT video!! My girlfriend, Nanny Baskin, was the "Navigator" on this video.....she wanted to experience being in that position, which her father held on a B-29 out of Saipan. Thanks so much for taking this, and for posting it! She's so excited to be able to re-live the flight on "FiFi"!
The best video of B-29. Thank you somuchH for this video! O melhor vídeo sobre B-29 que já assisti nos últimos anos. Parabéns e meus respeitos aos veteranos.
fifi's looking good . all you texans need to support caf cause it costs a lot of money to keep these birds flying. fifi has been grounded from lack of funds a time or two. and as you can see shes a beautiful girl so we dont want to see her do without
Pretty Smooth Run up and climb out. They don't build them like that anymore. Amazing Aircraft. we may be one of the last people to see one fly. Seems like the aircraft needed a lot of control input. A lot of Yoke movement by the right seat. It must have been a workout for those who had to fly them to cruise altitude and then set the auto-pilot. Landing was bumpier than I expected. It looked to me he was dealing with some type of cross wind. Who Cares! Well Done!
We have stuff like this fly over burbank all the time, in january we have the B2 Stealth bomber, every couple weeks we have old WWII planes in formation overhead, and every few days for the last couple months we have had military blackhawks in groups of two and three flying overhead.
Thanks for posting the video. As former private pilot, the approach for landing was a nail-biter. The B-29, like it's contemporaries had a rather flat approach and departure angle. A little too close to the roof tops for me. LOL.
I didn't think B29 still worked well. The sound of the engine is great and the flight looks very nice. If I had a chance to take this plane, I would like to.
Great Video!I love the B-29.She is not only a simply Bomber. She is a Legend, and Legends never die! Flys FiFi only in the USA?Because i think on Air Shows in Germany she will be the absolutly Star
I live in Burbank and saw Fifi when she stopped by. It was on my Bucket List to take a flight in her, but my bucket had a leak and my money kept leaking out:(
is that point dume at the 20 minute mark? my dad lived out there in the mid 90s and i was just a youngster so i only remember a little bit of it, but ill never forget how pretty that place was. or my dad throwing the frisbee over the fence so i had to go bother martin sheen to get it back.
Epic! I envy the hell out of the girl riding in the Bombardier's station, although generally the position was not occupied during take off and landing.
Great views of the engineer doing preflight checks! And a ponytailed girlie gets to sit in the #1 spot. Crud - I'm so jealous. I'd give almost anything to sit there! $1500 is just a little intense for me. Bucket list... That is just a totally awesome plane. Saw it in Las Vegas and Napa, CA. Can't get enough...
I took a tour of FiFi at Trenton Mercer Airport 6/23/19. Waited an hour and 45 minutes in line on the hot tarmac, but it was worth it! Paid $10...Couldn't afford the $1,995 for the half hour flight. You gotta be a millionaire to afford that!

Awesome, they appear in a lot of the atomic bomb test films. I thought they were very sexy looking birds.
Watching you folks fly over the exact same terrain and coastline I used to fly over in the late 70's (when I was a young pilot) just brought tears to my eyes. I'm building a steampunk B-29 in blender. It's gonna be used for Roblox airship showcase. These planes look like steampunk.
@@Nexalian_Gamer I think the cockpit view in the B29 is very similar to the view in Millennium Falcon .
I love this roaring prop sound.
Great video Ken! I felt like I was right there!
TAOFLEDERMAUS go put this in mercury
What a legendary aircraft. Thanks for uploading!

FiFi is just down the road from us. I love to see her fly overhead.
Grandpa was a tailgunner on the 29.
13.40,,, the most beautiful sound on the planet!!!

It was cutting edge when it was put into service. You calling it a rattle trap is like calling a B2 Spirit a rattle trap. The crew of the era thought it was the height of technology.
My God , the view from the cockpit at 9:44 is just amazing! Like you are inside Starwars space fighter. That view is amazing!
thank you so much for this video.

Coolstory bro
Why thank you yeah nobody could visualize a war story about my grandfather I'm telling you
In some ways, the fact they don't know about the personal sacrifices is the crowning glory of those that served.
Michael Currie That was a really neat story.
Well. Thanks to your grandfather, his crew and all the other pilots Europe is free. What would've happen if Nazi-Germany took over the whole world? I don't wanna think of that. it looks like the cockpit of the millenium falcon!
Believe it or not, the interior shots of the Falcon cockpit were modeled after that of a B29!
I believe it
It looks like a huge dildo!
coolbluelights Lucas got the idea for the Falcon from the B-29, almost sounds like her to warming up.
Wow... That must be a dream come true to fly in the B29...
Respect, you caught with your Camera all the things, real entusiasts want to see. Engine Starting Procedure and so on... thanks its fantastic..
No computer controlled stuff + Only Manual skills = Awesome!!
go fly a boeing 747 and tell me how easy it is.
Autopilot was made for a reason...
I remember standing behind this plane on start up when it had the old original engines on it and being covered by a mist of engine oil
Thanks for taking the time to film, edit and post this. It is a fascinating piece of history! Hopefully I will have the honor of seeing FiFI in person one day.

Phenomenal! What a wonderful, virtual, experience via CZcams. Thank you so much for having filmed it and having posted it.
Man, that sound... BRAAAAAAA
Its like really good heavy metal
When it comes to flying the airplane the engineer does the whole job from start to end.
What beautiful sound !
Watching the flight engineer is fascinating. What a wonderful aircraft FiFi is. Saw her in Westfield MA at Barnes Airport june of 2021.
Thanks so much for sharing your video.I took some pics & tour of her at Punta Gorda Airport in Southwest Florida during a Air Show.Man she sure is a Great Bird from the Past.May her Flights continue for Many more Years. Thanks again.
This plane has the best looking cockpit of all time
It does
It reminds me of the millennium falcon from star wars :)
runner4life1984 That's not an accident.
You should see some of the WW II Luftwaffe bombers. The glasshouse nose was really common there at the time.
Those ones are all right, but nothing compares to the superfortress'.
I enjoyed that little flight - thanks tons for uploading..
Most of the time, these were crewed by "kids" during WW-2. It was rare to find anyone older than 25! Even Paul Tibbetts was in his 20's when he and his crew dropped the bomb on Hiroshima.
Wonderful film. Thank you for showing this!
Oh man, I'd love to ride on one of those someday. Need earplugs, though. :)
No u don't ur ears will ring the rest of the day but you'll be fine I been on a 17
" SIMPLEMENTE FANTASTICO ESTE VIDEO " con la tripulacion heroica, para mi fue fascinante ver volar de nuevo un B-29 de la II guerra mundial. mis respetos a todosy tambien a esos heroes aviadores que ya no estan.
I was on the ground enjoying that plane that day wishing I was taking a ride. Great video! Thank you!
Man that would be cool!! I really hope to buy tickets for me and my dad to take a ride in Doc as soon as its done!
The man said after the flight, this was super. But yes it was super. That's why they call the B-29 the superfortress. what an awesome sound, must be a really special experience
Fantastic! I'd love to sit there and view the whole flight from the nose seat.
I loved it! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for not adding The Andrews Sisters!!
The cockpit of the Millenium Falcon is copied directly from the B-29....and Darth Vader's TIE Fighter is the Bendix Belly Turret of a B-17....
And the attack on the Death Star was based on 617 Dam Buster Squadron... even the targeting computer, Storm Troopers were the Waffen SS, Turbolasers were 88s (ray guns with recoil.... lol), and the Y-Wings were the hapless Fairy Battles/Bolton Paul Defiants/Douglas Devastators..... big, slow, and hopelessly out classed. that was a Really Cool flight! Thanks for the Video!
And checking all the dials as well, such as oil pressure and making sure both engines will start up
Cabin entrance through the nosewheel hatch, I can remember my short 1968 study excursion to KIev General Aviation Institute, the same way to Tupolev Tu-104 airliner cabin, good engineering practice!
Such an amazing era.
This plane is so stupendously epic
Breathtaking. I would give so much to fly in there. I hope it's still flying when I finally get enough money to afford it.
Beautiful aircraft. Great on board video.
what a flight, what a plane and what a skilled crew!! i would give them some medals!
Magnificent airplane. fully pressurised, remotely controlled guns, state of the art for it's time. Thanks Boeing!
Thank you for sharing!

O melhor vídeo sobre B-29 que já assisti nos últimos anos. Parabéns e meus respeitos aos veteranos.
hermoso avion, y todavia funciona extraordinariamente bien´. Gran video te felicito
The coolest landing ever!:-)
fifi's looking good . all you texans need to support caf cause it costs a lot of money to keep these birds flying. fifi has been grounded from lack of funds a time or two. and as you can see shes a beautiful girl so we dont want to see her do without
Que hermosa máquina el B29 !!!! como me encantaría volar en el

"Panning over the wing... panning... panning... Jesus Christ that's a huge wing."
Great video. Fantastic aircraft.
Great flying. When you come into land good god it look like your going to come up short for the run way.

I like that tablet computer on the left of the pilot. No standard equipment back then! :D
I didn't think B29 still worked well. The sound of the engine is great and the flight looks very nice. If I had a chance to take this plane, I would like to.
I've seen Boc Scar, I think it would be amazing if that old bird would see flight or Atleast some runway time
Bonjour, très belle vidéo, magnifique avion 👍👍👍❤❤❤❤ merci et un bonjour de la France 🇨🇵
Great Video!I love the B-29.She is not only a simply Bomber. She is a Legend, and Legends never die! Flys FiFi only in the USA?Because i think on Air Shows in Germany she will be the absolutly Star
Goose bumps !
Wow what an inflight and What a Plane
Wow! I just went for a B-29 ride!
Wow! Next best thing in being in the cockpit while in flight.
beautiful cockpit.
Phenomenal audio! best way to listen to this is with full sized headphones and fullscreen. What was uses to make this recording?
И через много десятилетий самолёт В-29 является произведением высокого технического искусства ,вызывающий восхищение !
I agree wholeheartedly. Where are you from?
Fantastic!
I hope they make it back out to CA one of these days.
OH WOW........Im just speechless......
As good as being there. thank you.
WOW ! Would love to have a ride in a B-29. I have a fascination for WWII planes....
Wow! What a ride!!
Wow! thanks

@LAXSPOTTER97, they are flying. They were just at WWII Weekend.
really really nice video.... !
Could you imagine going into combat on that thing? My God the bravery of those men.
This is really really cool.
I've seen FiFi fly before, at the 2015 Barksdale Airshow
I love this landing!
Surprising how loud it is inside
Great views of the engineer doing preflight checks! And a ponytailed girlie gets to sit in the #1 spot. Crud - I'm so jealous. It would be my childhood dream come true to catch a ride in a WWII warbird. Those people are very lucky!
Cockpit obviously modeled after the Mellinium Falcon.
A plane that won the war for America, a legend...
Is there any B-36 flying? Is there any in static display?
