    Amazing bit of ingenuity and excellent good attitude. Also, great riding. It was good to see that little bike flogging through rough roads and coming out the other side in fairly good shape minus one little lever. Great job! 😁

      I have a lot of fun taking this bike off road, but it doesn't always have the same "fun" that I do.

    Had the same thing happen to me on the Versys a few years back. Thankfully, stuck in third gear after shift lever broke. Low enough to still start but high enough to drive at a reasonable speed.

    Way to keep your cool, find a solution and a way out. That's what motorcycling is all about. Nice work, ride safe.

    Always great to see a person of your age with common sense and initiative! Frankly, of any age. I'd hire you in a second for any job I had. Ride safe!

      Wow! Thanks for the encouraging comment! I'm a software engineer by profession so I guess its just in my blood. Have a nice day, and good luck with your hiring!

      @@uthe54 np! Quite a few of my systems teams ride as well!

    Because I haven't seen it in the comments yet, kudos for your riding! Especially the first two minutes it looks like a very challenging trail for a bike like the Versys

    HINT: You have a center stand. Put your bike on the center stand, spin the rear wheel and shift into any gear you want, and you can choose 2nd gear for starting out. If you can shift up that's great, just don't go below second gear and you won't have any problem with that positive neutral finder. PS, you never told us what happened (did it break off the shift shaft on the side of the transmission?). What did it cost to fix?

    Oh man! What a bummer. I have the exact same bike. Were you able to replace the shaft yourself or did you have to have to take it in to a shop? What's this type of breakdown cost?

  • @Dr.MountainND
    @Dr.MountainND Před rokem

    Wow, I'm glad I haven't done that yet with mine! Lack of folding levers is a absolutely a complaint of mine with this bike. Did you do the repair yourself?

    I don't know if they make 1 for the VX300, but get you a shift shaft protector if it's available for that model. Great video, subbed.

      I wish I could even get one with a retracting end piece, but I don't think they make one. I ought to try the one from my KLX and see if it fits. The KLX has a retracting end piece.

    That's a nasty break. Did you have to pull your engine apart to fix this?

    I looks like the shift shaft broke off as the shifter seems to still have a piece of it. OUCH! Please let us know how much work that entails to disassemble the crank case, etc...

      I took a video of me doing the repair, but have not had a chance yet to edit it. It was more involved then I thought, but not too crazy given the proper tools. One tough part was replacing the seal which I was advised to also do when changing the shaft. that required I drain the coolant and remove the water pump near the shaft seal so I could access it. Not too difficult, but sure have to touch a lot of unrelated parts to get to the part that needed repair.

    Handled the situation like a pro. How did it broke? From a fall?

    • @uthe54
      @uthe54  Před 2 lety +2

      Hit the rock on the trail I guess. At least thats when I heard a "clunk" and looked back and saw it on the trail near that rock.
