I get choked up everytime I listen to this one. 40 + years of music and evolution went into this song, the final cut on their final album. It’s incredible! DAMN! I miss these guys.
Neil wrote this and it was an amazing testament to his life. With his passing every time I hear it I tear up, like many Rush fans, their music was part of the sound track of my life. This song reaches people on many levels and that is a beautiful legacy that has been left to us.

Whenever I watch this song being performed, I am reminded how much I miss Rush. They are such a huge part of my life, and I truly miss seeing them perform. I thought they would be around forever. What a fool I was!
This song is so special to me, because it symbolizes so much more than what it says in the lyrics. To me, it symbolizes everything that Neil was. It also symbolizes the end of Rush as a band. In its essence it is Neil's swan song, and it was his goodbye. It is beautiful.
This was the bands goodbye to the fans. Last album, last tour. Neil physically could not tour anymore. The song kinda follows their career path. They spent decades building their loyal fanbase and the critics bashed them at every turn. Slowly though the critics realized they were wrong and started to give the the props they deserved for so long. They realized here were three virtuoso musicians, probably the best trio ever assembled. They are the most respected musicians in rock music and some of the most humble guys ever. When Neil passed, people who i never imagined were Rush fans came out of the woodwork to pay their respects. There are probably more Neil Peart tributes on YT than any other musician. Their garden grew very well.

Well, you have missed so much.
One little correction. Clockwork Angels tour was not their last tour. The R40 tour in 2015 was their final tour. Neil was diagnosed with Glioblastoma less than a year after the last tour ended. He managed to make it 3 1/2 years before succumbing to the disease in January of 2020.
The world has changed since RUSH quit touring and Neil died.
They will never be forgotten by the hard core fans. 🤘🎶❤️

Rush weren’t exactly known for their tear-jerking ballads, although there are a few of those moments throughout their career (Losing It, Afterimage, Nobody’s Hero comes to mind). Man, they nailed it with this one. It’s almost like they new it was the end. Many Rush songs are more complex, more heavy, more fun, more illustrative, but none will be more prophetic. A masterpiece of songwriting.
My mother lost her battle with cancer about a month before this video was released, and my brother, who introduced me to Rush, lost his battle with cancer just this past October. The Garden is a beautifully moving tribute to three remarkable lives that have touched mine, who were taken far too soon. For another beautifully moving tribute, and a reminder of how time passes quickly and we need to slow down and fully experience every moment we're given, I recommend Time Stand Still as performed by the U.S. Army Band. Rest in peace Professor.

Very true, some songs bring out memories for me. I am glad it was a tribute to the three people you lost, and I am sorry for your loss. My dad has stage 4 cancer and its terminal. I go every weekend and stay at his place and we listen to music, we listen to his favorites 50-60s :) I am taking it all in and enjoying my time and his with him. Rush does an amazing job in teaching us how we should live our lives. Tend to your garden strengthen your relationships don't burn them. Another great song on this album is called wish them well and I think that every American should listen to this song and live by it.😊
My Dad knew I was a Rush fan, but musically they were a bit too wild for his taste. His generation was the 40's and 50's. But I did play this song for him once after I bought the cd. It really moved him, especially the strings and piano section. He was a pianist.
The Garden to me is the perfect closing song for the band. It's just so fitting. They took us all on an unforgettable musical adventure, and I'm so grateful I became a fan way back in the early 80's and got to see them in concert a few times. R.I.P. Pops, and Neil.
This has got to be the most EMOTIONAL and EXPRESSIVE RUSH SONG!
The song was partly inspired by the novel 'Candide' by Voltaire which was titled 'All for the best' in some translations. In it the character talks about looking back over his life & it being a metaphorical garden. Neil used this as inspiration for the conclusion of the Clockwork Angels story. I guess the events of the following years gave the song extra significance with the bands own conclusion & especially the death of Neil himself. Rather than continuing to be sad at his passing in 2020 I'm trying to be just grateful for his life & his impact on my own.
By the way, you mentioned that you didn’t want anyone to see you crying. That’s the best part of your reaction-I’m a 59 year old dude, and this song reduces me to a puddle every time. Try Time Stand Still by Rush. It’s another of Neil’s looks about how fleeting life is. I think the most powerful thing about music is when it can transport you to a time or place in your life, and touch you emotionally. Congratulations, you’re human lol. Also, try Styx, another of my favorite bands from my youth in the ugh 70s and 80s. An obscure one is Haven’t We Been Here Before. Beautiful duet of Tommy Shaw and Dennis DeYoung.

This Rush song moves me like no other and requires me to emotionally brace myself when I listen to it. It is a capstone work that marks the conclusion of this band's career. It is prophetic piece penned by Neil.
When that drum roll comes in, it just hits you every single time. Such a beautiful song lyrically and musically.
I attended pretty much every Rush concert (in Michigan) from the tour in 1984 until their final tour. A friend of mine, who attended the last two with me, pops into my mind every time I hear this song. Sadly he passed not long after our final Rush concert in Detroit. I think of him (and Neil) everytime i hear this beautiful swan song

This song was pure emotion and melancholy when it was released on their final album 11 years ago, and now it tugs on our heart strings more with the passing of Neil Peart 3 years ago.
Up until his death, nobody knew what would be the future of Rush after their Clockwork Angels tour, and subsequently their R40 Tour, which was their final tour as a band.
This hits hard to this day, and not only in the context of the song or the band in general, but also life in general.
Such a beautiful song from a band who has a very wide range in dynamics of talent, skill, and songwriting. Masters of Rock!

This song is likely one of the most beautiful songs written about how we should live our lives as human beings. Every time I hear this song I am crying my eyes out. Hard to believe that eleven years have already passed since that final note rang on that final tour.

i was lucky enough to see rush live, this song is my absolute favourite even though it's relatively new.
Imagine, being a drummer, who's technicality was judged and stood in awe of every other drummer around the world.... and your "goodbye" was basic and emotional. Because Neil's very basic was good enough for us all.

I cry every time. Neil's writing is on par with his drumming.
What you probably don't know is their drummer was regarded as probably best in the world. He did this tour with a brain tumor. He plodded on and died a few years ago. Puts everything in perspective

Tear up every time I hear this, could mean a lot of things, but I think how someone feels at the moment they hear that they or a loved one has been told how long they have left.
They knew this was more than just closing the doors, it was also their farewell to a king (Neil).
How they made it through without crying, I'll never know. I cry every single time.

I like how you waited till the end to make comment. In so many reaction videos they constantly interrupt the song. This song is very poignant and gives me goosebumps every time I hear and watch it.

No, Neil was not diagnosed until YEARS later.
Neil wasn't diagnosed until August 2016. While the influence to the lyrics may have been a sense that he figured he was going to retire not long after because he physically couldn't keep up to the standard he set himself, cancer had nothing to do with it.
