definitely not. they really roast the other judges in their other songs at this show. It was probably just to change things up. Also it might be because Ryan is a candidate to be a judge.

@@saltypotate I personally don't know his qualifications but the process for becoming a judge is a long one. It is essentially like earning a degree. You have to be recommended by a district representative and have letters of recommendation from certified judges. After your cover letter is evaluated you can be accepted into Candidate School. If you pass you have to spend 2 years as a practice judge for contests by attending a certain amount of contests as a judge. After that if they think you've done well you go to Category School and then if you pass that, you are a certified judge.
Wow, it took me forever to realize that at 2:29 Jackson is not just clearing his throat, he's humming the next note. Genius.
I just rewatched last year's performance, because I wanted to compare. The best thing is that Jackson wasn't allowed to perform his joke and was interrupted with the words: "No, no, if you're gonna tell a joke and mess it up and then you go "dang it" at the very end, just let's keep going on with our song".
And the thing that was predicted last year happened now and I really love little details just like that :)

It's a bit of a running thing. Any time Jackson attempts a joke he screws it up and goes dang it.
He does that every time though, it wasn't a prediction.
Omg that final harmony at 5:08 gives me chills and brought a tear to my eye!
I love how the dynamic has evolved into Jake taking on a weirdly protective role over the group. Including fist-swallowing prevention.
After watching this again and yet again I'm even floored at 1:01 "Somebody" all in one voice and NOONE sticking out

The resonance at 4:38 i would kill to hear in person. When i was in band, we talked about it one day, the way when you're in tune with each other and release the note at the exact same time and it causes the note to just ring and vibrate through the air. Its insanely cool and if thats truly what that was, it just goes to show how talented and in tune they are with each other
Barbershop is a very good genre too hear this resonance(and overtones) brass ensembles and bands are very good for it as well.
That's why I'm in a quartet and love Barbershop

The moment that note was released the overtones became 10x clearer, its almost like theres a second chord (which is the same chord, just a higher and different voicing) being sung after it. Incredible!
listen at 4:18 this chord locks in so well and you can hear it echoing so perfectly.
Exactly, this chord somehow always stands out for me while listening. I will not fact check it, but I bet that they hit close to perfect just ratios. It's so god damn smooth, it's almost uncanny whenever they do it.

This song is so much more poignant/emotional after hearing the news that they have disbanded. I only discovered NF4 during quarantine times and I'm sad to have lost them so soon but glad to have had my eyes opened to the wonderful world of barbershop.
Amazingly talented. Thanks NF4 for the music - it's thanks to them that, once lockdown is over, I'm going to finally bite the bullet and find a local choir to sing with.

It's so weird, they're so in unison and in sync, yet so distinct that when you focus your attention on one of them, they stand out. Yet when you watch them together they've beautifully blended into a harmonious one voice.

Although this was posted 6 months ago and has over a quarter million views, in the past 25 days it's been averaging around 578 new views a day. People are still watching but at this pace, it's going to take almost 4 years for this to reach a million views like its 2018 posted version. I want to see it reach the 1,000,000 mark. ☺
They’re literally the best. They’re the best because they’re unique while still upholding and demonstrating the rules of a barbershop quartet. Just because it’s different doesn’t mean it’s not as good.

This is such an oddly emotional thing to watch. How did they make it that beautiful. It genuinely does and *has* made me tear up before, and I’ve come back _again_ to re-watch it - just to add to the _innumerable_ amount of times I’ve already watched this.

I'm late, but I literally can't tell whether it's Jake or Ryan doing it. If you look at Jake it seems pretty clear that he's the one doing it, but if you look at Ryan, he also seems to be doing it. I can't decide!

@@sambrooks8461 There are two other videos of them singing this song on youtube, I just watched them to compare, and in those it does seem more like it's Ryan. It also sounds more like his voice. Still not 100% sure though.
I tried listening to it with headphones and that way it sounds more like Jake again... I guess I'll never know.
That ending had everything, dissonance before the resolve, moving parts in between that even resolved on their own excluding the lead, syncopation between the parts moving around the lead, and a perfect final dissonant movement into the ending resolution, that was BEAUTIFUL👏🏾👏🏾🤌🏾

This has been Stuck in my head for months. amazing. they polished up so much. way better than their last rendition that I found on CZcams although I thought the baby cry that joey did from an earlier rendition of the song was funnier it was spontaneous and jarring in a comedic sense. But this bit worked as well 😂.
