    This is one of the moments we're you realize that once Time Travel was introduced 😜 that things were missing in this reality, because it should have come up in Chip off the old Clark. However it does make a good show knowing that the "guy" is chaste , society today makes it like that's all guys think about. This brought a healthy perspective to current romance.

    • @jessicalillianweinberg4401
      @jessicalillianweinberg4401 Před 6 měsíci

      There's also the fact that he mentions past "girlfriends" - now, we've seen a lot of women get interested in him but I think that word implies more "relationship" than he had with someone like Linda King or Mayson Drake...but there are other times, I'm pretty sure, when he says even being in a relationship is new territory for him.

    • @jessicalillianweinberg4401
      @jessicalillianweinberg4401 Před 6 měsíci

      They did the best of both worlds with Clark. In the early days of the show, when people were learning about Superman, but Lois already had a "thing" for him, there was speculation about whether Superman was even interested in...that. But it's obvious, especially from the "virtual make-out scene" in this same episode, that although he is chaste he DOES think about it and have those "feelings"...he really wants to do it with Lois, when the time is right (and probably has thought about it somewhat with others, especially when he questioned whether Lois wanted him - that could be part of what the "taken a look" line refers to) - and he turns out to be good at it, according to what we see / hear at the end of Soul Mates and in Brutal Youth. It's almost like it's one of his superpowers - they literally wind up on the ceiling on their wedding night - it seems to happen almost without his intending it, at least consciously.
      And Lois and Clark never (except in some fanfics I've found) did the "friends with benefits" thing. In shows written somewhat later than this, there are couples sleeping together, yet doing that whole "falling in love is scary / is this a real relationship or isn't it / should I be the first to say it" angst thing. Lois and Clark recognized being in love and being serious before doing anything like this. (Even when they actually spent a night together, snuggled up - in Ordinary People - they didn't do anything like this.)

    • @jessicalillianweinberg4401
      @jessicalillianweinberg4401 Před 6 měsíci

      And I think they once had Jimmy confess (because he thought he was about to die) that he had fantasies about Lois "making a man out of him". A lot of fanfic writers seem to see him as titillated by Lois and Clark's relationship. And some fanfics set him up with Lois' younger sister.

    • @jessicalillianweinberg4401
      @jessicalillianweinberg4401 Před 4 měsíci

      He is obsessed with Lois (didn't he kind of use the "suit" to impress her after she didn't like Clark?) And ironically she eventually decided Superman was not there just for her...in a way he was. But that's not the same as just being obsessed with "that" in general.

    • @msariah
      @msariah Před 4 měsíci

      The obsessed reference is a running thing with LOis.... Lex, Clark/Superman and more. The irony is best grasped with her stating she could live with what ever Clark had going on. Yet it was apparent that at some point she was tired of all the bull corn.

    • @Liviahel
      @Liviahel Před 2 lety +7

      in fact it makes sense for him to be a virgin, the guy wanted to keep his superman identity hidden, in an intimate situation he would end up showing his super strenght or more like his super resistance, and since he wasn't really in love before Lois, how would he explain this to a partner without revealing his not human? NOt shocking at all, Lois just didn't think enough about it before because she was focused on her own feelings.

    I think, @LyricalXilence, she was just in shock when she realizes that he never had a "steady and intimate relationship" with anyone because he's had his heart broken so many times before. At least, that's my way of looking at it. :)

    • @jessicalillianweinberg4401
      @jessicalillianweinberg4401 Před 6 měsíci

      Did Clark have his heart broken? I thought women generally liked him but he just didn't feel like his other girlfriends were "soul mates," and he always felt "different." I thought Lois had been with some real doozies - actually, one thing that bothers me about her character is that she always seemed to be fooled by the charming-but-evil guys like Lex. But I think she was supposed to have actually slept with one or two past boyfriends - although not Lex, I don't think. Didn't she, some time before meeting Clark/Superman, spend the night with another male reporter, who then stole information she was working on for a story? That is always talked about in fanfiction - but I don't remember when it was talked about in canon.

    • @jessicalillianweinberg4401
      @jessicalillianweinberg4401 Před 6 měsíci

      One of the points about the way both Lois and Clark were written in this show is that they're both "outsiders" and alienated - no pun intended - albeit in different ways and for different reasons. Notice how, for all the people that find them both attractive - neither one really has any friends besides each other (and Jimmy, who can be a fiercely loyal friend to Lois, Clark, AND Superman, but since he works at the Planet he's connected with their relationship, in way). And sometimes it sounds like Lois has a pretty good relationship with her sister but that varies a little depending on the storyline.

      I think you're right that they realized they were still in it, for that conversation - but they also imagine a pretty hot and heavy encounter (that gets interrupted by the bad guy) - which isn't "really" happening but I think it must have been reassuring for Lois - because they each got to experience how much the other wanted them, so to speak.

      They are in Xavier Luther's pocket Matrix. I think the bright colors are meant to imply how simplistic the place is compared to real life, including the repeating avatars that were a problem in early 64bit video games. This should be a red flag to Lois and Clark, but they are too engrossed in their relationship problems to see these red flags; that this is not actual reality.

      Dean Cain writing a scene like this is proof that he understands the character of Superman. It's logical to think that Clark, while having an active social life and experienced with dating women, would always be cautious to actually do the deed with them. He would always be afraid he could potentially harm them and also be would always be hesitant to share that part of himself because none of the women he dated ever truly knew him as a person because of his secret.
      Plus take into account that Ma and Pa raised him with Midwestern likely Christian -based values and it makes sense why Clark would wait until he found that special someone before he got intimate with them.

      @@bettersecret1499 Fanfics often interpret the "federal disaster" line as her not having enjoyed her previous encounters (physically speaking - and/or being told by the other guys that they didn't) and perhaps, being afraid that that meant she wasn't very into sex, and therefore, Clark wouldn't be satisfied by her. I'm not sure if they really meant to imply that here. The earlier scene, before the virtual world, where she is looking at honeymoon locations and babbling about, "What if you're expecting one kind of bed, and you get another, will you be disappointed?" does seem like that - like she's dancing around what bettersecret said. Re-watching, I realize that even after Lois becomes more trusting of Clark and more ok with having a relationship, she continues to have something like anxiety attacks at every new stage (remember when he suggests making an offer on a house, and she freaked out there, too?) And she seemed to predict that something would happen to make the wedding go wrong? And, well - her anxiety is kind of justified, given what she's been through with her family, other guys - and Clark even kind of leaves her twice - in Contact and Big Girls Don't Fly - and then all of what we think of as Superman's adventures (i.e., brushes with death, being kidnapped, etc.)

      Not with Clark, it's not. Sometimes people have had a lot of meaningless sex and decide to save future sex for marriage. Other times they fall in love and want their first time with a certain person to be their wedding night. It's not unheard of.

      Given some of the issues they've had, I guess they wanted to be sure the time was right for the two of them...although there are one or two other times, before the wedding, when it seems like they might have done it if they hadn't been interrupted - such as Super Mann - where they started making out because they were thinking about (or Lois was) the possibility of death striking suddenly.

      Haven't guys she's dated and/or slept with turned out to be...actually evil? I don't think she slept with Lex but I think there was some reference to a previous boyfriend / sexual partner stealing a story from her. Or was that just fanfic? In fanfic, she also reminisces that the relationships she had that were physical weren't, well, physically enjoyable - and that made her afraid she wouldn't be able to please Clark. That might be what the fear here is meant to imply and maybe the "federal disaster" line as well - though it seems to me that "federal disaster" would more likely refer to how bad some of the guys turned out to be.

    • @jessicalillianweinberg4401
      @jessicalillianweinberg4401 Před 6 měsíci

      The "action" plot of this episode is about being trapped in a virtual world, and when they realize that the evil computer genius reacts to them kissing, they start kissing, and it escalates until they are (only in their minds) tumbling on a bed, undressing. Later she says that their talk (the one in this scene) has made her feel better. I'm thinking that even though the "romantic encounter" was fantasy, it probably played a role in reassuring her, too - she gets to see/feel Clark wanting her and vice versa and they get to see/feel themselves and each other being...passionate. However, there are actually a few other episodes, including Super Mann which I think is before this, where you get the impression they're going beyond kissing and it's...not too awkward (it just gets interrupted.)
