Trumpet…and life…still a work in progress…

  • Hello again! It’s been awhile since I’ve uploaded anything on here and I’ve had a couple of friends reach out to me asking where I’ve been. I’m still here-just living my life, busy with several things. The main thing with me is my new life after having lost 150 pounds. Feeling so much better! And playing trumpet (granted a tad rusty these days) has gotten so much easier. There’s so much less tension in my playing since there’s just so much less of me. It feels great not just playing, but mostly feeling like I’m getting my life back. Yay me! It’s not been easy, nor will it ever be with weight loss, but I’ve definitely turned a few corners and I’m already back to a place in life I wasn’t sure I’d ever get back to. Here’s to more of this, including (hopefully) more frequent CZcams content. Thanks for watching!

“If it was easy, anybody could do it; if impossible, nobody could” -Abraham Lincoln 😃
Switching from right handed to left handed playing is absolutely amazing - tons of work. French horn players use their left hand and with practice, you have really made the switch work for you.
Playing West Side Story with your left hand would be quite the challenge, Andy.

When I was younger and doing band, I found your videos and would surf through them amazed and how you could do all these techniques! To see you now when I’m an adult doing all these positive things really just makes me so happy, keep doing great Andy!!

So damn good to 6:50 see that you are doing so damn good! I’ve been thinking a lot about you and the word on the street is you are kicking ass! Eddie Clark told me so. I’ve had the pleasure of doing some Webster Wind Ensemble and Jazz Collective gigs with him.
You sound good and you look good. Clarke studies are everything in my experience.
If you can play those you can play anything.
Hope to hang with you soon!

Just curious. Have you felt any significant changes in your chops since the weight loss? I lost around 130 lbs and feel like the loss of tissue in my face had a huge impact on my playing - and not all for the better. The physical improvements far outweigh the chop changes, but I would love to hear how or if you noticed anything.

I’m definitely starting to notice some changes in my chops and like you-not all good. I feel my endurance is not at the level it once was. I get worn out quicker so it’s forced me to be smarter about how I play. I’ve always been a’go for broke’ kind of player, blowing like there’s no tomorrow but I don’t have that bottomless reservoir of chops these days so I have to force myself to be more efficient. But that’s not necessarily all bad-I could use a fair bit of increased efficiency in my playing! But like you said-the overall health benefits of losing all this weight are way more important than any chop issues I’m having. Anyway-congrats on your weight loss!!
