1500 miles, so proud of all of you!!!! OMG the Yak burgers and fries look delicious!!!! Love your attitude toward the fire and the people affected by it!!! Im sure youve done far more than 20 extra miles elsewhere.

Too late now, but the simplest thing would have been to take a bus to Ashland and continue north from there then come back and hike south from Ashland to Castella where you got off trail. Much easier logistics, accessing the trail where it crosses I5. Thanks for not trying to hike to the fire and rely on locals who are evacuating from their homes to help you. That is a level of responsibility that is rarely seen.

Castle Crags is just this crazy granite formation in the middle of a volcanic mountain range. It's a great place for local climbers to go. A few years ago I was day hiking up there and met a group of three guys practicing for El Cap later in the summer.

I totally agree with a comment that read taking a bus or hitch into Ashland. Fires in the PNW has been really wild the past three years. Take no chances. On top of even if the fires get under control. You still can’t hike on burn areas. Be safe and don’t feel bad skipping miles. Every thru-hiker has to skip miles at some point. I’m in Portland, OR. Just west of Cascade Locks. If you have any questions or concerns.

I'm not sure when you filmed this and where you are now but fires in the northwest are what they are. I live in Ashland. The PCT goes over Mt.Ashland and as of right now you could be on the PCT. The AQ isn't great and it's highly variable during the day.
