  • This is the slow movement from Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G, transcribed for piano solo by Gustav Samazeuilh. The first couple of minutes of the original version are for piano alone, which perhaps was the motivating factor for Samazeuilh to transcribe the entire movement.
Samazeuilh and Ravel met as students, and remained lifetime friends. It is presumed Ravel approved of this arrangement, as it was published during his lifetime, soon after the original Concerto was published.

I've stumbled happily (and progressively better, thanks) through this transcription for a few years now, and it's wonderful to see/hear it executed confidently and sensitively on a piano not so different from mine.

A very nice performance of Ravel's Piano Concerto in G. Abbey Smith would have been honored to know that you performed the concerto in her memory!

Thanks, Greg! When I first got Abbey’s recordings, I also thought it was a woman’s name. Abbey was a man! Best, Dan
