  • Saxon Studio Sound System vs Sir Coxsone Sound System @ Peoples Club 1985 [Both Sounds] 🔥🎼
Saxon Studio International is a reggae sound system from London, the first UK Soundsystem to win an international competition.
Saxon Studio International began operating in Lewisham, South London in 1976.
The sound came to prominence in the early 80s because of the "fast chat" style which was pioneered by its deejay Peter King. Other Saxon MCs included Tippa Irie, Smiley Culture, Asher Senator, Papa Levi, Daddy Colonel, Daddy Rusty and Daddy Sandy, each of whom developed this style and went on to release records, some (such as Smiley and Tippa) achieving Top 40 hits in the UK national chart.
Sir Coxsone (AKA Lloyd Coxsone, real name Lloyd Blackford(1)) came to the UK in 1961(2) from Morant Bay, St Thomas, Jamaica, had started out with his own Lloyd The Matador this folded because of lack of funds and he went on to work with the Duke Reid Sound. Upon splitting from Duke Reid in 1969 it was a natural choice to name his sound Sir Coxsone, in recognition of the Jamaican rivalry between Studio One and Treasure Isle.
Initially, Sir Coxsone had a residency at the Roaring Twenties Club in London's West End - having I Roy as a resident deejay in the club 1973. He later moved to the Four Aces in Dalston, East London circa 1974. He was back at the Four Aces doing regular Sunday night sessions in 1979.
In late 1974 he set up his own record shop at Peckham Rye. He also launched the label Ital Coxone together with Leonard »Santic« Chin - the first release being »Only For A Time« by the Royals in November 1974. In February 1975 he produced the song »Caught You In A Lie« with the 15-year-old Louisa Marks - it was released on Safari Records and was a best seller. He would also release acclaimed albums such as the King Of The Dub Rock and the sequel titled simply King Of The Dub Rock Part 2. The former was awarded fifth place in the Black Echoes list of the best dub albums ever to be released up to 1977(3). In 1977 Coxson started his own Tribesman label.
Coxsone was featured in the 70's BBC documentary Aquarius focusing on reggae where he spoke about the scene.
In 1980 the sound travelled to Amsterdam, Holland and played two sessions. By this time the Sound featured Blackadread alongside Festus and Lloydie at the controls and MC's Levi Roots, Skeeroy and Bikey Dread.

This was a classical clash I was there the atmosphere was awesome.. Everyone was there brings back memories IP was a good dj but not lyrically in the same league as the Saxon djs . Unfortunately a lot of UK djs have died who could have had greatness Mr Palmer, Nookie, Smiley Culture, Daddy IP, Daddy Willie, Trevor Notch, Nigger Jimmy, to name but a few. The 80s were the golden age for djs in the UK.

Rumour has it that IP had mental health issues and committed suicide apparently they found his body in the Thames near London Bridge. There is a cassette with IP on Diamonds the girls best friend in Carnival 1985. Where he got nuff adulation from the crowd. So many djs have passed from that era Squidly Ben from Wandsworth Tenafly from Brixton Stevie Hyper a great Jungle dj from South Fulham just before Wandsworth Bridge another talent who was about to achieve greatness. Other djs have turned to Christ like Youtie General from Volcano from North West London and Desi B from Diamonds sound. Life is a journey good and bad.

Great memories of these London ' death in the area' dances at peoples club. Sneaking out of the house, no car, taking the last 36 bus to Praed st, down the stairs at Peoples club, Saxon and Coxsone opposite each other on small stages just above ground level, daylight hits the eyes as you leave, take bus home or run away from the taxi man after being dropped off by North Peckham estate.

Bwoy!!!! Mussclehead 😂😂😂dubs dem scratchy scratchy ..and just see mussclehead now behind the saxon sound finding his selection with his straight face 😐but this clash was off the shizzle..two big sounds in one big lawn ..to me saxon took it and that's when we really heard about saxon ( the take over) this clash was the settlement of the clash from 1984.and in this clash mussclehead control with Nuff junior Reid dubs..and the scuffle with Philip levi and blacker dread..bwoy this clash was tense and exciting....!!

True, I've never even once seen Saxon sound selector Muscle Head smile, laugh or grin. However, happy faces don't win sound clashes & considering Saxon won the U.K cup, World clash in "1993 but they gave it to Bodyguard. Nevertheless, Saxon won the World Cup in " 1994. Saxon killed nuff Yard sound over the years, including Bodyguard, Third World from New York in their own area in Brooklyn. Saxon played alongside Killamanjaro, King Jammys, Creation, Afrique, Addies & too many to mention. Bare top notch DJ's like Papa San, Super Cat, Nicodemus, Sanchez & more. Not bad fi a sound from 52 Overcliff Road, Lewisham!! Also, look how much DJ's they've buss over the years. Papi Levi, Senior San, Tippa Irie, Daddy Colonel, Miss Irie, Rusty & nuff more. Addies played back the Bunny Liliy pon Saxon in their "1994 clash in Bermuda. Play back tune inna dub fi dub & your out of it, that's your sound gone. That night was bad for Saxon, but NO other English sound system will, has or can reach the heights that the legendary Saxon studio sound has. And Mikey Boops is the best mixer I've possibly ever heard. Bless up Lewisham, London's Saxon sound. Stay blessed.

I was living in London at this time, going out to clubs like Four Aces and some place in West London (Paddington?.....was this the Peoples' Club?), clubs in Clapton, Tottenham. Looking back most people would say the music was great in those days. Now, I really think dances are much, much nicer. I only go to reggae dances, no dancehall garbage. Back in the day the crowd on occasions was too volatile. Too many guys were so easy to pull out a hammer or a knife in a dance...yes, in a dance where you are supposed to chill out. Today the music is solid roots and culture, nothing to do with DJs or sounds bigging themselves up. Going out to reggae dances here in Holland or Scotland where I spend my time is just such a nice experience. I do not miss the old days at all. Besides 80% of the tunes back then like on this vid was pure rubbish.
