    I came to the exact conclusion you came to friend.After years of wearing supposedly great La Sportiva 3 season hiking boots I just felt them dragging me down with the bulk and weight.I just started hiking with running shoes but as the weather is getting a bit more rugged I'm thinking of getting the same pair you're wearing.Seeing this video sold me on them

    I’m always wearing my salomon speedcross I usually get either the goretex version or the climashield version but it rains a lot here. And I use them playing disc golf that’s actually why I originally bought them to keep my feet dry while disc golfing. But they are so very comfortable.

    As a suggestion, you could always buy a pair of gaiters to cover the tops of the shoe so that no debris or dirt get in. Altra had a great running gaiter for shoes

    If Salomon made a 0-4mm drop with about a 18-22mm overall stack shoe, with their climashield, and made it a natural color, that would be perfect.

    I love those shoes!!! They never wear out and the soul is for mud and rock, it literally sheds mud. I live in the east, they are great on muddy climbs and descents. The Gor-Tex is great no water gets in. They just came out with a mid hiking boot based on this shoe. Great video! Also, no snakes over there?

    • @beardedgear
      @beardedgear  Před 3 lety

      No we definitely get snakes, all though for some reason this year I hardly saw any!

    Thanks for ur review, ive been wearing Oboz sawtooth hiking shoes for backpacking for years and they have been great to me. With that said I’ve tried several pairs of trail runners to lighten up a little but always come back to my Oboz. Tried on a wide version of these that they have finally came out with and love the fit. Just curious, do U use after market insoles in the Salomon? That always changes the fit where most shoes don’t fit anymore

    Where i cone from everyone owns at least 1 pair of salomon trailrunners.
    They are the vans of the Alps
    From age 12-18 i did't wear anything else, salomon spetcross to church and in 3 feet deep snow...ALWAYS

    I use to wear boots but the day I bought my Salomon alphacross and took them on a hike it changed my life. Loll but literally so light so responsive more flexibility on my ankles.

    Thanks for the vid. Rich of information about the shoe, great cam work and I like the part where we see you walk.
    Seems like the shoes are more for people who heel-strike when walking? Am I wrong about this?

    How do you feel about the Gore-Tex vs standard 5s? I’m just getting into hiking and am buying my first pair of hiking shoes. Not sure which version would be best for me.

    • @beardedgear
      @beardedgear  Před 3 lety +2

      I went with the standard ones because where I live I’m not too worried about getting wet feet haha, but if you live somewhere with a lot more rain the gore-Tex would probably be a great call

      @@beardedgear I’m always way too indecisive. I actually ordered both from Amazon, figured I’d try em on and see how they feel, then ship back the one I don’t like. I’m completely new to this (I’ve really only walked the local woods behind my house) but I do my best to research everything before I jump in and start spending real money. Videos like this really help. Thanks!

    Yeah, I don't get it. I recently took up trail running because I got bored of hiking. I discovered that I could get to cool places faster by running than walking. I bought Salomon XA 3D PROs to run but sometimes I used them for hiking and... like you--wow! Why more hikers aren't using trail running shoes to hike is beyond me. I never did when I just hiked because frankly, I didn't know that trail running was even a thing.

    I’m in SoCal doing similar hikes, Would you suggest these over the GTX version (I’m guessing these are more breatheable but less waterproof). Also, would another colorway wear better with our color dust?

    • @beardedgear
      @beardedgear  Před 4 lety +3

      Yeah I opted to go for breathability over the water proofing, I don’t regret that decision. And if I were picking another color I would have gone with the olive green, but when I bought mine they weren’t available.

      @@beardedgear Good to know. I got mine the other day in blue. Gonna take them out tomorrow for the first time. Walked in my house with them and thought they'd be uncomfortable because they're so sleek. But was super impressed. I live in the Inland Empire. North of Ontario airport.
