The DDB, as he's nicknamed, originated in France's Bordeaux region 600 or more years ago. He's known for his massive head, fearless temperament, and powerful body.
A devoted and affectionate family dog, he has a reputation for being sweet and docile, but he can also be stubborn and arrogant. Patient, consistent training is a must, as is early and extensive socialization to prevent aggression toward other animals and unwarranted aggression toward strangers. Loyal, self-assured, and territorial, he's a superb guard dog who's also capable of competing in many sports and activities, including carting, obedience, therapy work, tracking, and search and rescue.

Amazing breed loyal loving and chilled. We lost ours on Monday and a void has been left, the house feels cold without him.

I'm very interested in the Dogue de Bordeaux. I'm just concerned about the overheating, since I'm looking for a breed that jogs with me every day, but also guard the house while I'm at work.
It will be alone 8 hours a day, then I'm gonna take it jogging for an hour and then Netflix and chill. Is the Dogue de Bordeaux a good choice?

    • @jessicaraga3495
      @jessicaraga3495 Před 3 lety +1

Leonardo Bauer this breed does not do well with the heat. I wouldn’t advise taking this breed for a jog an hr. They don’t need much exercise, they are more known to be lazy. 35-45min once a day is good time of active for these dogs. My Dogue de Bordeaux is 6 months , however we live in the heat and he doesn’t like to stay out too long.
I have yet left him stay in the house for more than 8 hours but from what I’ve heard from other people who have this breed. They don’t do well being in the house by themselves too long . Then again , I like to think it depends how you raise them young. I do recommend this breed is NOT an outside breed. They like to be inside, close with their owners

@@leonardobauer6312 get a Doberman or a Dogo Argentino. Also I heard if you get Dogue De Bordeaux from a good and non AKC breeder, they could be good exercise pals, same with Neapolitan Mastiffs. But I would say the Doberman would be your first choice.

I don't know where are you from but in Europe you can find much more athletic Dogues. Mine has a body very similar to Cane Corso except she's little shorter and her head is obviously bigger 😂 Most of them will live around 10 years. I think their official life span is that short because of display samples which are often overweight or even worse are on anabolic steroids which only idiot would do. My varies between 48 and 52 kg which is plenty enough so I can see why 75+ kg male dogs unfortunately die very young. It also can do 15-20 km walks no problem while bigger ones get tired after 15 mins..

I own 2, they have been the most caring and kind dogs I’ve seen, but it’s true they’re a peace of work, extremely territorial and they can be defiant before turning 2 years to see who is the alfa. They need to be socialize definitely because when they see something that makes them feel threatened they will go for it. Thankfully i haven’t had any problem against other dogs or people but you need to keep an eye on them when there’s people or dogs outside the family. They can have hip and elbow displacia so just to keep in mind. It’s so true when she said that they think they’re smaller than what they actually are because when they are young they turn into a wrecking ball that destroys everything they walk by, but i still love my 2 pups and they have won the heart of my parents that weren’t so excited when they first arrived.

"When your puppy is growing, you don't want it to put on more than 3lb a month," if you bought a French mastiff pup at 8 weeks old, it would weigh about 18lb; If it puts on no more than 3lb a month it would weigh about 50lb when it's 1 years old. This doesn't make sense as a 1 year old dog is already fully grown in terms of height at this stage. The norm for a mastiff is 8-12lb a month during its first year.

She is very curious but also very stubborn and extremely selective to what she will eat. She is also very careful around toddlers and elderly people. Overall she is a bit rough on the edges but with a heart of gold. If you socialize them from an early age and treat them good you will have the best dog you can imagine.

I was given a 7 year old male that was kept in the back yard and never aloud inside the house. They never walked it and even put it in a separate part of the yard when they went outside. I couldn't believe anyone would spend a few thousand dollars on a pup from interstate and treat him like that. Now he's 8 and a half and he is fighting fit, loves going for walks, catching any of my pigeons that aren't quick enough. He sleeps on my bed and only goes outside when he wants, he is right behind me wherever I go in the house, .I can see him making 10 years, He just had his testicles out because one was growing bigger and possibly cancerous, so he's got less drive and happy to lay around more. I am getting a pup soon so when he does pass on I've got the other one to help fill the void I know he's going to leave.

We normally have Rottweilers, and lost our last Rottie, Zeus, last year, but haven't wanted to replace him straight away. A couple of months ago, my friend couldn't house his male mastiff anymore and asked if we would give him a home. So, we said yes.
Marley is just over 4 years ago and settled in almost immediately. Like she said, he follows me everywhere and loves nothing more than to be with you. He's so easy going and hardly barks, apart from the times you want him to, like if he hears someone outside, or when someone knocks on the door. Personally speaking, I still prefer Rottweilers, but in the meantime, I'm glad I've had the chance to share my home with this delightful breed and it didn't take me long to love him just as much as my previous dogs.

Constructive tip from a cinema student : I noticed that the audio goes dark when some of the b-roll comes on, as the interviewee stops speaking. If I may, I would like to suggest taking some roomtone, audio taken without anything going on. We do this in every location. We take about 10-20 seconds of audio with no one speaking, with nothing going on. You can then slip that in through the narration to create a smoother transition.

Overall he was a fantastic dog but I think we got blacklisted by UPS because these are guard dogs and if someone doesn’t come into your house confidently they immediately think that person isn’t supposed to be there. He chased a female UPS worker halfway down the block once took a chunk out of the box she was carrying because she gave off a really nervous vibe. Needless to say another female delivery person never showed up at our house.

This is my absolutely favorite large breed. Had two growing up. The second to replace the first. Both male. Both named affectionately"Hooch". Both were amazing dogs. Hooch 1 was a gentle giant...unless he thought you were a threat to us kids.
Didn't have the best home life growing up, and first Hooch got between my mother and us so often that my mom having to take the time out to lock him up before she beat our asses, so she didn't get bit, was enough time for all of us to cram ourselves under the bed to where she couldn't reach us to pull us out and beat us.
My mom had forgotten her keys one night and attempted to come into the house through the window. She got one leg over the pane and was grabbed by her thigh and pulled in by Hooch. He stopped immediately when she screamed his name, but that was the type of dog Hooch 1 was. If you are an attempting burgler, you will at best get one leg in the house before he will rip you inside and eat your face off.
Hooch 2 was nearly identical. A bit more goofy and lumbering, where as Hooch 1 was more regal, and careful of his surroundings, both could turn on a dime from slobbering mush to Guardian mode.
Absolutely the best, in my opinion, family dogs. If I had a bigger place I would have one now. The only thing I dislike about the breed is their lifespan. Hooch 1 lived to 10. Hooch 2 lived till 8. It's s hard to say goodbye...let alone say goodbye that quickly.
Edited to add: This breed is also the only breed where I would rather own a male than female. I always tended to feel female dogs were better to have and raise around small children in every other breed, but this one.
Maybe it's bias because both Hooches I grew up with were male dogs, but this breed in general has guardianship engrained so I don't doubt a female would protect and bond any less deeply to the family than a male.
    😢
But still, RIP Hooch 1 and Hooch 2. Best protectors and guardians we could have ever asked for. ♥️♥️♥️

@@uzazilI am so sorry! I have comment reply notifications off on my account. I didn't see this till now. Lol, I hope you end up seeing this...
The answer to your question is very bad. The movie was spot on with that detail. Both Hooch 1 and Hooch 2 drooled excessively.
It was more noticable because my mom had these glass coffee tables that were low enough that both Hooches could easily just pan their heads over surveying for food or even just doing a quick turn and there would be a slobber line/smear all over the glass.
It drove my mom crazy back in the day.
It's a small price to pay to have their so ugly they're cute selves gracing your home.

@@djberryhardkoreI would love to someday have another one. Both I mentioned were when I was younger. Unfortunately apartment living in NY is limiting.
I have two Chihuahuas right now, lol. I love the breed, but the main reason I have Chihuahuas is because they don't require a lot of room and if I ever ended up on hard times it's easier to crash at a family or friend's house with a 3 pound hamster dog than expect that same loved one to welcome what is essentially drooly Ludo from The Labyrinth into their home.

I love my big guy. He's only 95lb, got bad knees, horrible teeth, and I put in a pacemaker at the age of 6. He's 9 now and he's the best dog in world. I can't imagine owning anything another breed. Loves to swim, great with people, not food motivated. Can be aggressive to dogs with hair over their eyes. Know what your getting. I recommend this breed to Paula living in small households, no stairs preferred. Be prepared for drool/kibble/hair cement on every surface.

Wondering what people think about mastiff crosses in terms of health and temperment. Looking for a puppy and very nearby I've discovered a lady selling what amounts to mastiff mutts.... father is a doge, mother comes from danes, corsos, and bulls. I like the look of the dogs and I'm impressed after talking to her about her breeding program and the dogs these puppies came out of... just hopeful that maybe mixed breeding like this will lead to a healthier dog overall.... thoughts?

I own 2, but I still come back and watch this video a few times a year. You get used to being asked questions when you take them out, so I've passed on a lot of this lady's knowledge mixed with a little of my own.
She was nice about why the numbers declined. The ACTUAL reason is that Hitler put out an extermination order on them TWICE because of the way they guarded their families against German soldiers. They were reduced to 6-10 pairs at one point. These dogs are absolutely fearless and will put their life on the line for you, no questions asked.
