Danielle (Drew Barrymore) helps Prince Henry (Dougray Scott) see the bright side of his royal status.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Andy Tennant directed this Cinderella variant. The Brothers Grimm arrive at the home of a wealthy Grande Dame (Jeanne Moreau) who speaks of the many legends surrounding the fable of the cinder girl before telling the "true" story of her ancestor. In flashback, the story then focuses on eight-year-old Danielle, daughter of a wealthy widower, a 16th-century landowner. After returning to France with his new wife Rodmilla (Anjelica Huston) and her two daughters, he dies of a heart attack. Ten years later, Danielle (Drew Barrymore) is now treated as a servant by the trio. Fortunately, she has an encounter with Prince Henry (Dougray Scott), who is fleeing an arranged marriage. Later, when Danielle poses as a Lady, the Prince takes an interest in her. Inventor-artist Leonardo da Vinci (Patrick Godfrey), accepting the French court's patronage, offers advice to Prince Henry on matters of the heart. George Fenton's music adds an accompaniment to the lush look of this period romance.

“Think of all the wonderful things you could do! For your country, for the world!” I absolutely love that line. It shows how she wants to inspire him to think differently of his position in life and all the possibilities his privilege can bring.
I've heard it said that what a man wants most of all is a woman who has faith in him, who encourages and inspires and motivates him to become a better person -- not out of any desire to control and manipulate him for her own benefit but for his so that he can find more true satisfaction in life.
Lmao, in the newest Cinderella, they made The Prince give up the crown to follow Cinderella pursue her career as dress designer.

i agree as nice as the disney animation one was, this one really told the story really well, didn't need magic in it and as serious as stuff was they did put lighthearted moments in it and unlike the other films cinderella and the prince actually got to know one another instead of it being meet once i love you and i love you
I agree. This movie was so unjustly panned. It was so smartly done. Drew was so charming in this, accent be damned.
Dougray Scott and Drew Barrymore have incredible chemistry. I see no other pair of actors who could have played these roles in such an engaging, convincing way.

I love how Drew isn’t exactly what is considered “beautiful” by society but she is so elegant and innocent looking nonetheless.
what do you mean Drew isn't considered typical "beauty"? I was utterly enamoured with her as a child. I mean, I might be biased because this was my first movie with her in it, but it was impossible to look at anyone else when she was on screen.

This is a film I can watch thousand times and it will never get boring
I love the director. He/she really knows how to direct the shots to get the emotional moments like when Henry eyes glow up when Drew said the same line as his mother ( you were born into privilege and with that comes obligations) but in a mood which he was able to understand and absorbed. I really love all of the moments of facial and body language as their love developed. The director is truly amazing. And of course I love all of the characters, even Margarite bc she’s played a true comically spoiled beauty. This movie is a treasure. My one go to movie in times of stress-and I get stressed a lot. It’s funny how true it is for boys to fall in with girls who has similar attributes to their mothers. In this case, Danielle and Henry’s mom said the same phrase. If you don’t believe in Fate, well you better believe there’s fate at work in this movie.
One of the best cinderella I like the fact that they actually get to know each other to build a realistic conection that he like her for her bravery and she dosnt care about his titan but as a person not like others were they meet one at ball and love each other

I just love what she says about the "Gypsies" and overall how the movie paints them. Sure Romani people wouldn't have called themselves Gypsies since it is a term invented by Europeans but that's something I'll happily ignore because this movie shows that they were misunderstood people back then. Yeah firstly they appear as criminals but it is also implied that they had little choice since society defined them by their status (or rather ethnicity) and basically forced them into an outlaw status while they are actually quite decent people as we see in the movie.
This movie set the bar for me to be loved for who I was- and thy being smart and sticking up for yourself while being kind were the best characteristics of a person

I agree with everything except the animation. I like how Cinderella Live Action, This One, and Ella Enchanted broke the mold away from Cinderella just meeting him ‘at the ball’. These movies show substance with them meeting before hand and a hint as to why they fell in love. In the animation it feels like Cinderella really is a gold digger going straight after the prince.

Try watching The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982) -- everyone speaks with a British accent, though it mostly takes place in France during the Revolution and half the characters are French. Of course, being a BBC production and all, the actors are all British. Same thing with Shakespeare.
It's just considered more "European" to have the characters speak the Queen's English, especially to emphasize a certain era or European royalty. American accents would be out of place.
It's an English movie..
British accents are easier to understand English in than French ones.

You have to see both sides. Look at the family she came from. He thought he was betrayed and being played so they could get their hands on the crown. He thought she never loved him and said things to make him fall.
