In my neighborhood having ANY KEY HOLE anyone can unlock your door. I’ve literally been at the laundromat drying my clothes, while a neighbor used my washing machine, overflowing the water, then apparently turned on the furnace to attempt to dry up the water in mid summer.

You make a VERY good point in saying that a lock devoid of key bypass 'may be risky' if it's the only entrance to the dwelling.

Good video - It's worth saying that August was acquired by Yale and since then it seems that most new products are under the Yale brand with a Yale app, though it appears that it's 100% the august technology/design underneath. I couldn't find availability for the Yale Assure with August but was able to find the Yale with Home module that works with the rebranded app.

I'm sold on the Yale lock. Many reviews have rated it as the best, but you really hit the features that matter. I'm currently using the budget 3rd gen August lock and the auto unlock feature is something that I just couldn't live without after having it for almost 2 years already. At the time, the lock only cost around 120 USD and it REALLY surprises me that no other lock brand implements this feature when they cost twice as much money. I would just add an August Connect bridge, but I really just want everything in one, self contained, unit with everything attached to the door. I bookmarked this video in case your links are affiliate links for when I actually purchase the lock.

I'm a locksmith. I've made good money taking these locks OFF doors when they have either failed or been kicked in with only one footprint on the door. In my opinion, these locks are for convenience, not security. But bear in mind that i also only see them under the above circumstances.

I love your videos man!!!! You put a lot of thought into them. I didn't know you had this more recent video. Most people don't go into as much detail as you. I do think the words/the distinctions can get confusing sometimes. Part of that is because we don't know them. :D Here is my question and I know this may change. I contacted Yale about MATTER. They said all their wireless locks will be compatible with MATTER. Since I don't know enough about the differences between Nest x Yale and Yale August locks, I don't know what questions to ask. But it would appear that with MATTER, the distinctions should disappear. It is also hard to believe that Yale will move forward with both flavors. So... I assume one of these will be sunset if not both at some future point. This scares me a little because I'm not buying just 1 lock. I'm buying 10. But I know based on your video to go with August for the most flexibility. I don't know if you can ask a few questions and give me some thoughts. I'm sure more will be forthcoming in a few months. I'm hoping these locks go on sale for prime day.

  • @Ndlelex

The Auto-Unlock feature, while most convenient, is not a good idea if you're from where I'm from; and definitely not if security is a priority.

My issues with Yale are that it doesn't have a variety of color-matched lower pull-type handsets for a front doors. Schlage comes in full front-door sets. Yales August module also requires a separate Wifi module. Yuck! And if you have two deadbolts (front door and garage), you'll have to use two of these pucks. I'm only still considering this option because I'm trying to move everything to Homekit. Now iOS 15 beta shows support for something they are calling "HomeKey", but no one is talking about existing hardware compatibility yet. I'm still very confused, but great video nonetheless.

@@camsecore, Dude I Have A Nest X Yale Lock. I am not trying to debate you on the product. You're talking like you invented the lock and have an investment in it. i was just saying that if you lost or had your phone stolen, that it has a lot of info like addresses, owner info, etc...., which makes it more likely to be used to gain entry. Not saying that someone would even know to use it that way. If you lose a key, it's just a piece of metal with no lock to be used on. I would not use that feature that's all. I guess with me being Retired Military and working in A Security Field After My retirement. It just enhances my awareness when it concerns security issues. Thanks For Your Input and I did Enjoy You Video. Great Job.....

in China, locks have cameras, two batteries (one for backup), type-c charging, human detection, conversation mode, unclosed door detection, fingerprint identification, facial recognition and more. I am quite disappointed in the choices we have here in North America
