I recently bought this one, and I don't think I bought it because of the hype, infact I got to know about the "hype" only after watching this video. I have been waiting for it for quite a long time. The reason I bought it is because of its aesthetics and the classic retro design, there are hardly any such watches from other brands in India. When we call something "retro" it means it has stood the test of time in the past, and hence possess the value in the current times as well. The day-date functionality is an added plus.
If we can support and celebrate HMT's Indian'ness in mechanical versions then why not quartz. Expecting quartz to be cheaper than mechanical just because they are "not mechanical" may not be fair as they have their own merits. If HMT is considering its watch-making legacy and the watch's design aspect to decide its price point then I think its a fair deal, as I am sure many of us are happy to pay more than the current price to grab it.

Very honest review. HMT needs to up its game and make better bracelets , crowns, crystals for its watches, simply reproducing from the back catalogue might not work always . They need to innovate or maybe take inspiration from it's mother brand citizen which makes awesome watches for the price point.

I too bought a pair of mechanical watches for my parents from hmt site, 2 years ago. They looked amazing. The company is closed though (production restarted for some models due to demand from collectors and watch enthusaists.)

That is well said .. now hmt has significantly less mechanical movement in their stock... so SOME people are literally promoting and influencing members & especially newbies to purchase and go for the quartz movement watches.

Maine recently HMT Kohinoor Quartz watch Liya tha because of the Hpye but woh watch mere wrist me kafi chota dikh Raha tha so I sold it on OlX. And also ek manufacturing defect bhi tha lugs me. Ek aur baat mere measurement se watch dial diameter aara tha 33.6mm but website me dikha Raha tha 34.9. Maybe agar yeh watch dial diameter exact/around 34.9 hota toh mere wrist me utna chota nahi lagta and I would have kept it.
