RV Water Pump Problem & Solution

☞ 👀 #RvLife comes with many problems. We just didn't think a water pump would pop up for us to look at. After going through different options and pulling it all apart I discovered a small piece of debris that was causing the pump to keep cycling every 20 seconds because it couldn't hold pressure. So if you are having problems with your RV Water Pump maybe try cleaning it out first before buying a rebuild kit or a whole new water pump. We had the same issue with the check valve, as a added level of security we installed an in line check valve. If it fails when on city water it will back fill the fresh water tank to the point of overflowing.

My trouble shooting was easy.
I was taking a shower when the flow went to a trickle but the pump was still running. Out of the shower i could hear water spraying under the couch :(
The diaphragm was blown out on the bottom of the pump.
I had seen a recommended pump and added it to my wish list. Now was time to move it to my cart

In my experience with similar boat water pumps, if that little filter with the clear plastic cover is not kept clean, it will reduce water flow and cause cycling. Glad you got it resolved.

We actually have a video on tearing down the pump, had a similar issues last fall. It’s crazy, your rig is twice the size of ours, yet you have the same water pump. Thanks for sharing this though, definitely something that will help other out!

Our water pump (same model you have) went out while moochdocking in Tennessee but ours was leaking through the pressure switch. Went to Home Depot and got a cap for the waterline since we were connected to city water and capped it off for the remainder of our trip then replaced it once we got home.

That's cool that it just took cleaning out some gunk, I've had to deal with mineral deposits meesing with a number of valves at our house. Don't you have a filter upstream of the pump, I thought that would've prevented it.

Before this (great) video, I happened upon "Why Wait" and his video named "RV WATER PUMP TROUBLESHOOTING". Seems to be a common issue.

Like in all new RV's they builders leave junk behind every panel, sawdust, screws, wire Ect. They also leave plastic in the tanks from drilling out the holes and making connections. The plastic chunks will plug the filter on the the pump and I'm sure get into the diaphragm. The filter is just a screen.
