2010 Jeep Patriot weird noise from engine area.

- 2010 Jeep Patriot 2.0 Metal clanking noise hard to describe. What is it? Water pump, power steering pump, idler pulley, tensioner, alternator, bearings……the list of possible problems goes on. Real life struggle.
Not much to see in this video except for noise.
*Quick answer. Alternator was replaced and noise went away.

I had the same issues did all the same things. Took my alternator off, took it to get tested, it passed. Bought new alternator, now it's gone! Also idling better. Mine is a 2016. 🤟🏽
Our patriot is making the same noise and I was torn between the alternator or the ac compressor. Guess I’m changing the alternator first. Thanks for posting
Glad I found this, thank you for making this vid. I have a 2016 Patriot making that annoying noise and I thought it was possibly a worn timing chain. It’s in the shop right now and I think they’re stumped, bc still waiting for that result of the diagnostic, so I better call them to suggest the alternator!
It's the alternator pulley. Dorman 300-885 part number

I have changed the power steering pump thinking that was the problem but nop, it wasn't so about to change alternador pulley thanks for the video

The weird noise was the alternator pulley OAD, thanks for the comments, I replace hidraulic pump twice today and no change until change the alternator pulley.😅

Is this fix a must fix or does the alternator work fine it is just loud
I'm having the same issue but on a tight budget. Not sure if i should drop the money on a new alternator if it might not be the problem.
I'm going to the same thing I've replaced the left wheel bearing the in and output shaft bearing the left caliper and maybe that's what it is it's a weird metal grinding sound is that what yours was

ALTERNATOR BEARING, replace the pulleys as well problem will be resolved!!
About how much did that all cost?
Hey man I’m pretty sure it’s your idler pulley about to lock up!! Same thing just happened to me today but it tore my belt to shreds but again I don’t hear the whining with your car but that’s the sound mine made before kapooting
Ended up being the alternator. Changed the pulleys and was disappointed when the noise was still there after changing them. On the plus side, it’s got new pulleys now!!

upper radiator hose looks like it needs to be change too

Alternator make it sound like engine blown take belt off then start if noise goes away spin pulley on Alternator if not rite change.
