    I value my health more than my desire to see a tornado up close, in person. I live in south central Oklahoma and while we've been very lucky not to be hit directly in a long time, when the sirens go off, I'm in my safe room. It's one thing to see the destruction they can cause in a video. Seeing it in person is a whole different experience. It's not worth my life.

    When I drove through a tornado about a year ago weighing about 78,000+ pounds at night going through Texas at 1st I wanted to pull over but I remembered seeing videos of how easily a tornado can flip a parked semi truck so I looked at the other trucker beside me and I decided I was going to keep going because the other truck kept going. I kept my speed around 40-50 and took a deep breath as hail started hitting the windshield then WHAAM/WHOOSH as the severe winds hit the side of the truck I let it push me around a little/turned slightly in the direction of the push to "absorb" as much of the shock as I could I let it push me towards the next lane/close to it then I slowly steered back towards the middle of my lane to avoid hitting the truck next to me.
    When I looked at the other truck he was doing the same thing I was then a few seconds later all the wind disappeared and I was in the center. At that moment when I no longer felt any wind I became so scared with just 2 years experience but I knew from studying tornadoes via online research I was just in the center and would have to fight my way through the other side. My adrenaline level was high and I had the music going loud as I prepared for WAR. Before I could catch another breath to better prepare myself WHAAAAAMMMM!!!!! I quickly steered in the direction the even stronger than before wind was pushing as I struggled to keep the truck from going into the other lane too much and then slowly steered back towards the center of my own lane in the 1 way 2 lane highway. My senses were super sharp as I greatly focused on how the truck felt with the shifting weight of the heavily loaded Reefer Trailer and all. The wind was so much stronger coming out of it I wasn't sure I would come out of it okay but I did.
    After I made it through okay without incident I verified that specific area was under tornado watch. I'm the type of person who stays calm during emergencies but then I might have a mild panic attack after the smoke settles about what just happened. I went to the nearest truck stop as I WAS DONE for the night around 2am. I was f*cking DONE truckn for the night after having driven through a tornado for the 1st time and I just wasn't sure I could do it so perfectly again 2 times in a row. I'm the type of person who usually gets things done right on the 1st try but I definitely wasn't going to push my luck. I played the whole thing over and over again in my head as I remembered how other old timers shared their experiences about when they also trucked through tornados and how they handled it. If the trailer was empty there's no way in h*ll I'd drive through a tornado while empty/light weight. My main focus was punching through it like a bullet train while heavily loaded as I trained my mind to be ready for it but I wasn't really ready for that kind of challenge that night and I didn't even know I might be driving through a tornado until it was a few miles in front but I didn't have a good feeling about stopping at that time and when it comes to safety I follow my gut feelings which has never let me down.
    Every time I hear or see anything about tornados it sends shivers down my spine as I think I got mild PTSD from such a scary/thrilling experience but if I ever did face another tornado I would try to stay as calm as possible by accepting I might not make it and just calmly do whatever I have to do in order to achieve the most desirable outcome. By staying calm during bad situations I've managed to make it through anything just by staying calm and making the best decisions possible. Kind of like when in a warzone panicking usually only makes a bad situation worse. I hope I never face another tornado again BUT I am very grateful I got to experience it at least once and that experience is extremely valuable as it's helped to fortify my driving skills when it comes to severe weather.

    I understand many in my country think climate change is some liberal conspiracy. While I also understand there have always been tornadoes in “unlikely” places like here in the northeast: the FREQUENCY they are occurring outside of the usual “tornado alley’s”? After living down south, including northern Alabama, most of my life, and losing our home to one of these monsters in ‘98; I moved North, to the Poconos. As my now late Dad said “at least your only worry will be snowstorms up there!” Regardless, 25+ yrs in disaster management taught me to be prepared for anything. Now, almost 20yrs living here..2 hurricanes, the freak earthquake in 2011 that knocked my building off its foundation, a wildfire, and an EF1 touching down across the street in 2018 as I spoke to my Dad on the phone and he screamed that there’s no tornados in the Poconos?! BE PREPARED, DON’T stand in your windows or doors to watch, get away from windows to the safest part of your home, (meaning someplace where you might not go viral for your video, but MIGHT save your life!). Being prepared does NOT mean spending a bunch of money-believe me, a little each month WILL make a huge difference when the time comes. And at some point, you WILL need those things!

Now objectively speaking, I think rational people know which one sounds more believable, but until society focuses more on reality and less on solace through denialism, we won’t make enough major changes - though I hope it’s not too late by then. • @TitaniumTurbine
      @TitaniumTurbine Před 22 dny

      Well, there are very few locations that are totally immune from natural disasters. There are hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, sandstorms, semi-active volcanos, and blizzards in the US alone. As someone living in Florida, cherish your rare earthquake experience in NY and I mean that genuinely and sincerely.
      You would not want the anxiety of 5+ days of watching a hurricane get closer to your state while it becomes more and more powerful with each update, and also being in the direct line for its eventual landfall. Then you’d be without power for a week during summer with temps of 85°F and 90% humidity… if your home makes it through a minimum of 70+ MPH winds for hours. NY is nice and far less risky than many other states. 😊

      @@TitaniumTurbine I completely understand . It’s getting crazy out here, I don’t know how other people do it. I am grateful but it seems to be getting higher and higher on the magnitude meter and I don’t got time for buildings to be collapsing like the movie 2022(i think it was). All jokes aside, I’m over it. There is a lot of scary things to watch out for, but natural disasters I feel are very unexpected and hard to prepare for and be in control. I gotta do research and see what’s the place that has had the least amount of shit happen in a decade because it’s not giving for the U.S. and cali is definitely a no no for sure.

We were I believe in a tornado watch but yet it didn't look bad here at all just can't remember if sun was shining or cloud cover. Glad all these people lived to tell the tail and no injuries. Just watched Reed trimmer in a mega wedge tornado in the dominator 3 who was in the area I believe last week. He was heading towards the border in oak Grove which I believe is still part of same county as us but looked and seen he was in Hopkinsville where I live. Would have loved seeing the dominator 3.
