    What made Spike Jones' humor so effective was the excellent musicianship.

    This is such a crazy idea that I couldn't help laughing out loud, even though I've hear it before. The skill required to do this however, is just phenomenal.

    I remember the great Al Hirt playing this piece on trumpet, but this is the first time seeing and hearing it on trombone. Both are wonderful.

    Tommy Pederson was a great trombone player. When I've had to play really fast, I've flutter tongued with the middle of my tongue. The tune lays very well on the trombone in that key.

    Have never heard it done better, cleaner or faster. Pederson leaves the rest in the dust. Tonguing in hyperdrive.

    #Zachary Kaplan it is in fact double tongue. The piece is written in straight semiquavers. It would have to be triplet semiquavers to be triple tonguing.

    I don't have the LP (or the CD) with me, but the album was about "High Fidelity" and ostensibly illustrated the advantages and defects and features of High Fidelity. It included such notables as "Duet for Violin and Garbage Disposal," "Pal-Yat-Chee," and "Flight of the Bumblebee" played by a trombonist with hay-fever. (High fidelity apparently brought out the image of the bumblebee flying about, so well that it came out like that.)

    Isto me lembra da história, dizem que é verdade, que no meio de uma pausa "general" da orquestra que estava tocando num crescendo, muito alto, e numa pausa geral da música, a única coisa que se escutava no salão era uma mulher gritando: "Eu frito meus na manteiga!".

    I think you're referring to the track "Jones Laughing Record", which features "Flight of the Bumblebee", along with the sneezing and laughter. I thought this was more of a live version of that, with the audience laughing instead of the recorded laughter.

    • @theholk
      @theholk Před měsícem

      I think he was referring to "dinner music for people who aren't very hungry" (it's on here somewhere) which does play a lot with hifi/stereo tricks explicitly stated as such.. Several numbers are on different albums in different versions. On that hi-fi album the bumble bee song is without laughter/cackle, and the Pal ia tchi is done by Betsy Gay instead of the usual guys. The Betsy Gay version is just perfect, but for the Bumble bee I prefer the version from another album because the laughter is just so over the top and infectious.
