Some of the secret caves of Utah are kept secret for a reason. This cave nearly traps one of us as we crawl, scrape, and worm our way through it dark and untouched tunnels.
@@E.Mulchi Exactly. Why can't people just acknowledge the fact that every human being has a different subjective sense of what he is considering as fun. If they wouldn't enjoy it, they just wouldn't do that, right? Same thing with skydiving, bungee jumping, freeclimbing or whatever, you name it.
What scares me about this hobby is that you are underground in a very tight tunnel sandwiched by the earth, you can't lift your head and if you get stuck those rocks can't be removed to get you out
You could chip away at it and make the passageway more open if you are the rescue team. Use a drill etc... it's just important you stay level and don't put yourself in an upside down situation so that time is on your side for these things to get done.
To add to the problem most of these areas are very remote, some only accessible by helicopter and even if they found you its very likely they couldn’t excavate you. There is a lot more at play here than simple claustrophobia. To each their own though! 😄
@@AmyLovesYou John Jones got stuck and rescuers were not able to free him. His body is still in the cave 11 years later. He died after 26 hours being stuck upside down
Amen 2 that. There’s a motion picture about the John Jones tradegy on Amazon prime video titled.. “The Last Descent”. It’s very well made and a tear jerker.
Only reason john Jones got stuck was cuz first he was facing down in a tight tunnel, which made it really hard tp get out, then he got stuck in the mindset "just a bit farther" after he couldn't move back up. Then, he got himself stuck. He could've easily gotten out had he had the right mindset while caving. R.I.P John Jones 😇
I hate heights!! But if I had to do something or else my family dies, either cave diving or climbing a crane aka james kingston style, i would choose the climbing. I know I would fall to my death, but if I got stuck in a cave I would die a slow terrible death. Rather just fall and get it over it than suffer a claustrophobic panick atack
There is literally NO reward in caving, it doesn't even make for an interesting story over beers, neither will your children or grandchildren care to hear about it
I did this once in Costa Rica. It was advertised as a tourist hotspot... it was truly a horrifying experience. By the time we all walked back out into sunlight. I swear we were all crying.
You could navigate through the cave as a blind person would navigate through the world using your feet to kick around and your hands to feel in front of you. In those narrow passageways, you would need to watch out and make sure you don't hit your head on those hanging stalagmites. The biggest risk is when you make it to open spaces where you can freely walk around. You just have no idea if there are any holes with 50+ ft drops lurking around that you can accidentally step off and fall to your death. Not the most ideal situation to be in. I don't think anyone should go through that, but if it happened... you would have no choice but to progress. Unless you want to just sit there and die; of course.
Never went into a tight cave like that (and never will). I remember touring a winery and they allowed people to climb through a hole about 2 ft in diameter into a huge empty wine barrel. Plenty of room for 8 of us to stand up inside, but just knowing, as I stood at the back, that the only way out of that enclosed space was that small hole definitely gave me the heebie-jeebies.
I don't get how people dare try this... i mean imagine those who explores this caves for the FIRST time!! how can they be sure they will get out? some of the paths they crawl can't be crawled backwards so they have to find a way out? it's just insane
one guy got kinda famously stuck in one of these types of caves and they were actually thinking about breaking his legs as a last ditch attempt to try to pull him out, he had himself lodged in such a way... yeah. either that or starve to death or both man. What a fun activity
It helps a lot to get to a place where you can stand up and stretch for however long you need to regain some composure before you head back. Take a few sips of water, perhaps eat a snack. Talk with your friends etc... No way should you immediately turn back if you were uncomfortable doing it the first time. Just take a break for a bit. Pull out your phone and play Flappy Bird or some shit. lol
This is what my nightmares are about. Countless times i have woken up because I was dreaming i was stuck in a cave or a small room and the walls were closing in.
That looks fucking terrifying, i don’t have claustrophobia but i still dislike small tight spaces like a normal person. There’s no way i will crawl in a small cave unless it’s a do or die scenario
He was stuck upside down. Never ever crawl downwards face first. That is a recipe for disaster. Always keep your head level. If you are traveling through unmapped passageways, make sure you can turn back. If at any point you feel like you wouldn't be able to move backwards if you went forward any further... pushing yourself through that may not be the smartest option. If you do end up stuck while you are level, do not keep moving forward if it makes your situation worse than it already is. John Jones kept progressing forwards when he was stuck, and put his body in such a horrible predicament where he was almost completely vertical. He said he was trying to look for a way out, or a way to turn around. That is what killed him. If he had just stayed where he was originally stuck, the rescue team would have far more likely been able to get him out. It's better to lay there level for 5-7 hours and be rescued, than it is to be stuck upside down for 27 hours and then die. Make sure you remember that if you ever find yourself in that situation. When you are level, people can bring you food and water, even if they have to sneak a hose through a crevice for you to be able to drink, and time would be on your side. You could lay that way for days, possibly weeks. If you are upside down... the clock is ticking. Things aren't looking too good for you.
