  • This is important, especially for European drone pilots.
    Drones like the DJI Mini 4 Pro are classified according to the C0 to C4 classification. Remove the C0 classification from your DJI Mini 4 Pro so you can fly above the 120 m limit. When you have removed the C0 classification your drone can fly up to 500 meters from the start point.

Will I lose some privileges I had with the C0 ? Since I live close to mountains it’s very important. I searched a long time but couldn’t find anything specific to that.

    I purchased my mini 4 pro 9days ago 20th Dec , but it does have the "0" label I updated the firmware and the drone has no height restriction, set height at 500M and it's holding there after shutting down and returning to it a few days later. No option on the N2 to remove restriction of height even if it I take the height limit below 120 and reboot. I live in a cliff/hills/mountainous location so this is a big deal for me. Even as I type this I updated the firmware and still no restriction. Should I remove the "0" label?

    You are correct, the statements on the blog are moslty wrong, but the main concept is correct.
    Ther real problem (and DJI is not mentioning it explicitly) is that if you crash your de-classified drone AFTER 2023, the one you will receive from care refresh will be irrimediably locked.
    This is very bad and has no correspondance (as you mentioned) to any European regulation.
    Hopefully they will acknowledge it and provide a solution.

    This seems to me to be a crazy suggestion. Swapping your drone from C0 to C1 surely removes all the benefits of being lighter than 250g. Such as ability to fly over buildings, close to people, etc etc. Isn’t this why you bought a mini ?

    • @MK-Creator
      @MK-Creator  Před 7 měsíci +3

      Exactly so don’t do this with the intention to re-classify it! Do this to make it unclassified so it can fly under the legacy rules I was very particular about explaining. A drone out on the market before December 31 2023 don’t need a Cx certification.

    if i riead point 3 right, u can forget to declassify the mini 4 pro, as it is then after 1st of janauary only to be allowed to be flown in the specific category, which would be a nightmare - given waht u need for a specific category.

    I really do not understand the reason to remove the c0 label, is it just because of hight restriction lock? I just bought a new dji mini 3 that had no label. There is no requirement for label to fly in A1 when drone is less than 250g and below speed 19 m/s. However all newer types of drones will have C label from 2024.

      P.S. Just checked the latest firmware.
      Indeed, the new version V02.00.0100 "fixes the issue of ineffective 120 m flight altitude limit in the EU and adds support to apply for flight limit altitude above 120 m".
      I always keep my devices on the latest firmware, so I just got rid of the 120 meter limit as Mats suggested. Right after this I pushed the limit to the 500 m, but it immediately went back to 120 m. I had to reboot the drone and controller to get it to work. Now everything is fine and can be set to up to 500 m.
      I probably wouldn't fly above 120 meters, but I'd like to have a reserve just in case.

    @JimmyZmenos-df6op Před měsícem

    I thought it was 120m from the nearest point of the surface. Here is. An extract from EASA guidance.
    you need to keep the drone within 120 m of the closest point of the terrain. This means that there may be conditions such as on top of a hill where even if you keep your drone 120 m from the side of the hill, you are actually flying at a distance higher than 120 m above the bottom of the valley. So as long as you keep your drone within 120 m of the shoulder of the hill your flight is legal.

    Hi, @MK-Creator! Thanks for a well made declassify information video on the DJI Mini 4 Pro.
    Regarding your comment starting at 1:37 mentioning that the Mini 4 Pro equipment need to be in a EU country to do the 120m "C0" remove/declassify action. As you mention Norway in your video, the situation is a bit different now late December 2023. With the current firmware for the DJI Mini 4 Pro as of December 2023 (i.e. like RC Firmware 02.00.0300 for the RC2, Aircraft firmware 01.00.0300 for the Mini 4 Pro) a Mini 4 Pro purchased in Norway prior to January 1st 2024 can be declassified sitting in Norway and also probably anywhere else in the world. As Norway is a EASA member, the EASA rules applies. I.e., one does not need to be in a EU country in order to perform the (EASA "C0") declassify action, the availability is dependant on installed firmware version in your drone, remote control and/or app. At least with the RC2 remote control, the URL resource given by said DJI QR-code isn't given without a firmware that allows it. Though, when available, the given URL contains the Mini 4 Pro serial number (SN) and once the URL is known, the "C0" remove/declassify action with image upload and so on can be performed with most commercial web browsers (at least, Google Chrome). Mind you; as the URL contains the drone SN, the usage is registered by DJI once completed and can only be performed once per URL. 🙂

    • @bjornonwheels
      @bjornonwheels Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@alexispelz5954 Hi and thanks for asking! Though, with a great risk for giving an answer that is not correct for you, and your drone operations I will try. What comes first is that you are the one responsible for your drone operations and flying equipment. The short answer then is "yes", you loose what you understand and name as the C0 rights. But if nothing else than height/ altitude restriction is altered or modified with the Mini 4 Pro (not payload, not air speed etc.) you have a sub 250 gram legacy drone. In Europe, under EASA regulations in EASA membership countries, we can as such since December 31st 2023 operate a true 249g Mini 4 Pro with removed C0 label in A1. This is per description of legacy drones sub 250 gram in EASA regulations today (date April 1st, 2024). The sub 250 gram legacy A1 requirement still is 120m altitude, but also max air speed of 19m/s (Mini 4 Pro max air speed is 16m/s). I.e., we need to follow local country legislation and for most cases pass an online drone operator exam for A1/A3 in order to operate a sub 250 gram legacy drone. Get your diploma, mark the drone visually with operator ID and so on.
      The long answer:
      First and foremost, it is your responsibility as a drone pilot in Switzerland to research what applies to you and your drone operations on the specific location you intend to perform drone flight. When it comes to "risk", I think it is a strong word to use. I'd rather think one should discuss "consequence" of action. But again, this is pure semantics. For DJI drones, DJI do what they can for their drones to work and be operated in the various and different legislation areas of the world. First and foremost we here in Europe are subject to legislation in the operation country and then several country specific layers of local regulations and law. I assume you already have required understanding for that situation. Then, we have the situation for Europe and overall legislation. Since both Switzerland and Norway are EASA members per April 1st 2024, the EU regulations applies to drone operations in both of our countries. Having all before mentioned in mind and as I see it, the logical consequence of removing the 120m altitude limitation on a DJI Mini 4 Pro will take it out of C0 classification with immediate effect once the de-restricted software is loaded on the then altitude de-restricted drone. Hence, a requirement from DJI is to remove the C0 classification sticker from the Mini 4 Pro drone body is set forth. You then have a unmarked drone, which today for the Mini 4 Pro is to be recognized as a sub 250g "legacy drone" since December 31st 2023. As such, it can be operated in A1 with a simple online exam for A1/A3 operators. That being said, DJI has early 2024 given the possibility to re-classify the Mini 4 Pro as C1. But, in order to fully comply with C1 the drone in question must per December 31st 2023 have active "remote ID". Until recently, the "remote ID" requirement for C1 has had to be realized as some add-on equipment on the European Mini 4 Pro. As any add-on payload also will increase the Mini 4 Pro weight above 250 gram it looses some benefits even in C1. The Mini 4 Pro has the required remote ID hardware on board even for units sold in Europe, but the altitude de-restricting firmware/ software given in its first iteration didn't activate the remote ID. DJI has recognized this situation and have by March 2023 made it possible to apply for C1 remote ID activated firmware/software (version 02.00.0510). In the DJI Fly app you can apply for the C1 label and upon documentation then apply for and receive the firmware / software that activates remote ID on the European 249g Mini 4 Pro.
      @TECHDRONEMEDIA/ Henrik Olsen discusses C1 labeling of the Mini 4 Pro in some of his CZcams videos:
      czcams.com/video/1rG1tmcnByU/video.html
      czcams.com/video/aJsKaKU2Zrg/video.html
      Get your C1 label for the Mini 4 Pro at DJI:
      support.dji.com/help/content?customId=en-us03400009941&spaceId=34&re=DK&lang=en
      There is also a number of other web resources discussing the C1 re-labeling of the Mini 4 Pro at this time (March/April 2024). The interest appears to be particular in Germany right now. As I understand it, Mini 4 Pros sold in Switzerland today (March 2024) also come with the C1 labels in the box, ready for the owner to apply to the drone and take actions with DJI for firmware.
      So, what is the "win" in de-restricting a Mini 4 Pro from the 120m limit? Most likely the uphill/downhill flight scenario, where height difference in terrain and constructions can exceed 120m and represent a challenge in drone operation. A major part of the problem/ challenge regarding DJI drones is how DJI interpret legislation and regulatory requirements, and then how DJI tries to implement it into functionality in their consumer drones. As most DJI consumer drones record "height" at takeoff, the 120m height requirement is fine in flat landscape. But in our case, Switzerland and Norway, we have hills, steep cliffs and mountains where the 120m requirement doesn't make sense as a per flight fixed point recording. Any figure or illustration accompanying the 120m restriction requirement indicates it as a continous flight requirement that can follow the landscape contour and shape (i.e, "the drone over a tall castle on top of a cliff" problem). As it is us, the drone pilots who are responsible for our operations, it doesn't make sense to have a drone that is restricted by the height or level the drone was at as drone take off point. Flying out from a mountain side or steep cliff, the height difference the drone sensor then measures can go from a few meters to several hundred meters in just some meters of level flight. I don't know what action a 120m restricted Mini 4 Pro will perform by autonomous programmatic control in a scenario like that, but I assume that it will try to maintain the programmed max 120 meter height restriction. If the autonomous move will be either air brake, hover, return to home, land or other action to maintain max 120m remains to be experienced for my part. Also, remember that manned flight can be as low as 150m above ground or water according to EASA visual fligth rules (VFR), so the 120m requirement gives a 30m safety margin for drone operation vs manned flight.

I was walking up the falls while filming and was never very high AGL but had walked up the falls several hundred feet from where I launched from. @@MK-Creator it’s not that clear of a decision you have to make. i’ve got a license by myself hence i know the rules. firstly, the only reason why you can choose between the classes c0 and c1 is that you are simply not allowed to fly over 120 m with a c0-drone anyway. and that’s actually enough for most professional tasks. besides you are not allowed to go out of line of sight but going over 120 m would undermine this rule anyway because it‘s quite high and i doubt most people would see it then. but if you wanna categorically deny the rules and go higher up a mountain without being able to see the drone you could reset the starting point easily with ever landing and starting again but then you possibly wouldn‘t be near one return-to-home point anymore which could lead you to searching for it. furthermore with the c1-class there comes the disadvantage that you cannot fly over people anymore so you would have to worry about more things when flying. so what has been a benefit of the c0-class once will be no more with reclassifying to c1. you should mention those things for people are able to make a better decision.

    This info is misleading. IF you surpass 120m height you are stepping out of A1/A3 category in the eyes of law. In all classifications C0 - C4 height limit is 120m by regulations. also if your drone is C1 you need to take an exam online and get certification for A1/A3 drone pilot license. You cannot fly over people in C1 class. so the are many downsides. Also the height limit is measured from take off height so not absolute heigh (sea level). So if you are on a 2000m mountain top and place your drone on the ground you can take off and fly 120m above the 2000m mountain.

    2 days ago I bought a Mini 2 SE manufactured in September 2023. It has no C0 label and no 120m limit out of the box.
    I do have to say that as a first time buyer anything above about 75m feels way to high for me to be comfortable with.
    So I manually limit the max height to 80m which is what seems like a comfortable max height for a sub 250gram machine.

  • @greenogre22

    it’s not that clear of a decision you have to make. i’ve got a license by myself hence i know the rules. firstly, the only reason why you can choose between the classes c0 and c1 is that you are simply not allowed to fly over 120 m with a c0-drone anyway. and that’s actually enough for most professional tasks. besides you are not allowed to go out of line of sight but going over 120 m would undermine this rule anyway because it‘s quite high and i doubt most people would see it then. but if you wanna categorically deny the rules and go higher up a mountain without being able to see the drone you could reset the starting point easily with ever landing and starting again but then you possibly wouldn‘t be near one return-to-home point anymore which could lead you to searching for it. furthermore with the c1-class there comes the disadvantage that you cannot fly over people anymore so you would have to worry about more things when flying. so what has been a benefit of the c0-class once will be no more with reclassifying to c1. you should mention those things for people are able to make a better decision.

    • @MK-Creator
      @MK-Creator  Před 7 měsíci

      You are not allowed to fly higher than 120 m with a C1 either… and most of what you are saying is mentioned in the video.
      But I would consider it as a fairly bad idea to declassify it with the intention to then classify it as a C1. Makes no sense.
      Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    • @stephanbrieger4463
      @stephanbrieger4463 Před 7 měsíci +1

      I come from Germany and the same discussion is taking place there. However, it is assumed that DJI will remove the possibility of declassification.
      Placing on the market means DJI has placed the drone on the market, the date of purchase of the drone has nothing to do with placing on the market. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that declassification will be possible from 01.01.24.

    • @yoshy2628
      @yoshy2628 Před 6 měsíci

      If you can remove the label than you will be able to do that in 2024 without issues because your drone was bought before 31.12.2023.
      They plan to have a non removable label after 01.01.2024.
      Of course this will be impossible, many seller will have the drone with removable label for sale in stock after 01.01.2024.
      So technically if your drone got a removable label you will be able to declassify it after January 24.

    • @stephanbrieger4463
      @stephanbrieger4463 Před 6 měsíci

      Simply removing the C0 label does not declassify. You need a modified firmware for this. DJI will certainly no longer offer this from January 1, 2024 due to EU regulations.

      Luckily you are actually wrong. How you are allowed to fly is stated by the subcategory the drone is sectioned into. A1, A2 or A3.
      In A1 you have a C0 or C1 drones and drones without class that are sub 250g and put on the market before 31 December 2023.
      Note that no drones are allowed to fly over assembles of people. Only a few people…

    You write: '...your drone can fly up to 500 meters.' Maybe the drone can do that but in most countries it is forbidden to fly higher than 120 meters and for good reasons. There are people who want to get out from under all kinds of rules and deliberately start flying in airspace that is not meant for such drones. People like that also make sure that rules have to be constantly tightened. You as a youtuber should not advertise for people to violate such rules but make sure that people do follow the rules and therefore, for example, do not remove the C0 sticker but just stay neatly under 120 meters and why that rule was devised. I would advertise all kinds of things that you are allowed to do with that drone and we can be really happy about that.

      Well I would like to point out that 120m AGL restriction in EU/EASA rules and regulations refers to operating in the open category. Then there's the specific category and certified. U're totally entitled to get permit & waivers from local airspace authorities to fly at any height under those categories IMO ❤️🙏😂
