It's amazingly telling to show how each House operates. The Lanisters murder people when they're on the ground disarmed, so that threat was real. The Starks live in honor.
Reminds me of that one scene in Disney's Robin Hood. The part when Robin threatened Prince John with his sword and John is like. "No! Don't hurt me!" XD
Let's think about this way. 1. At that time, Sansa and even we didn't know that Joffrey was evil. 2. In the incident, Joffrey said " how dare you attack my princess's sister" , so we can assume that he wanted to impress Sansa. 3. Sansa also didn't like Arya playing with butcher's boy because they(female) are told to behave gentle and not associate with low- Borns, so, we can't blame her for telling "Arya stop it". 3. When they started fighting, Sansa clearly said "Stop it. Both of you, you're ruining everything" which we can assume that she just wanted to have a peaceful evening. 4. So, in Sansa's perspective, she has no idea about who is right or wrong and she didn't want to ruin the relationship with the prince and also wanted to keep her sister safe. 5. Overall, it's just a misunderstanding children's fight and as King Robert said "U educate your children and I'll do mine" and they should've ended with that.
She was SUPER dumb tho. The dude was swinging a sword FULL FORCE at her little sister and she STILL continued to love him and not realize how much of a psychopath he was! If I were Arya I would have slapped her after this
@@jameslough6329 Even Ned said she had to side with Joffrey bc she was supposed to marry him in the conversation with Arya. Not only does Sansa have flaws, Arya has too, her impulsive rebellious behavior might've got herself killed. But people like you only see Sansa's and because of instinct, internalized misogyny
@@user-lj9qn4go6f “internalized misogyny” 😂 WTF ok lol. You just HAD to make it political! Is it REALLY that much of a stretch to say that Sansa should have at least intervened when Joffrey tried to kill her sister?! Or AT LEAST told her father about it?! The reason she didn’t was because she was being an idiot and was blinded by her crush on Joffrey. I also don’t understand how you could say Arya’s behaviour in this scene was “impulsive “. All she was doing was defending her friend! What was she supposed to do? Just stand idly by and let Joffrey torture him?! Also it can’t be ignored that Sansa seemed to approve of Joffrey torturing the Mycah. It is pretty obvious that she was VERY immature and stupid in these early episodes. It is only after Ned Stark’s death that she becomes smarter.
@@jameslough6329 Read the books! She told her father about everything. Not blinded by Joffrey she said "I don't remember" which is smart and the best option for the situation. Yes, she was naive in the first episodes. - Yes, you're right. Arya was supposed to sit still and quiet so, at least her little fellow won't die ,only a scratch on his face will left. She attacking Joffrey made the problem worse . (I'm not telling that this is Arya's fault. It was Joffrey all Time) And in that era, high Born ladies are not supposed to get along or be friends with a low born boy like Mycah. That's why Sansa didn't like Arya being friends with Mycah which we can't blame her. She was raised like that. In the books, Arya wears her clothes for days, without washing. Making friends with low Borns, do dirty things which we also can't blame her. Only Arya and Jon look alike to Ned. So, my point is that Sansa and Arya are two different species, different habits and not quite get along. But not like that they hate each other. Yes, they were kids and naive.
@@user-lj9qn4go6f Oh, you REALLY don’t want to bring up book Sansa buddy! Isn’t that the same Sansa who straight up reveals Ned’s plans to Cersei, thus getting him killed and has a child with Joffrey?! Book Sansa is FAR worse! Also, I agree that the reason show Sansa was stupid early on was because of her spoiled upbringing but… that doesn’t change the fact that she was still stupid. She should have intervened when Joffrey tried to kill Arya and she should have told Ned about it (she didn’t do that in the show and instead lied about Arya’s wolf attacking Joffrey unprovoked). Her not doing that was undeniably INCREDIBLY stupid! Morover, I don’t agree that Arya should have just sat still while Joffrey had his way with Mycah. You REALLY think Joffrey would have just stopped at cutting his face considering how psychotic he is?! Also Arya knows that the whole idea of looking down on “low borns” is wrong which is why she doesn’t follow it. Sansa IS in the wrong for looking down on him and approving of Joffrey harming him. I get that the reason she thinks that way is because of her upbringing but it is still a VERY immature and spoiled way of thinking. Arya is in the right, Sansa isn’t.
That's Sansa's job as a traditional female in that series, to stop fights before they happen. However, she's quite clueless about how things really work. Margaery absolutely MASTERS the job. Sansa believes she's in a Disney movie, and Margaery knows where she is and what she must do. But Sansa's behaviour is what was expected of her. In our world, Arya is being awesome. In the books, everyone scolds Arya because she's the one who's misbehaving (the punishment for hurting someone of the royal family was aputation of the offending limb).
This young man is so talented and he played this character perfectly. I am always amazed at young actors who can reach the depths it takes to make their characters so believable.

I hated Sansa in Season 1...but oddly enough now she has become my second favorite character in the entire show. I love how her character has matured and changed throughout the Seasons. Sansa isn't a fighter, but she's one hell of a survivor and I'm glad to see her finally realizing what the world is really like.
She remains the same throughout all seasons; a dumb and naive c*nt, constantly being pushed around and used for her title while not being able to distinguish good and faithful men from evil men with bad intentions. She betrays her own family on multiple different occasions, all the way up until S7, either because she is too stupid to realize what she’s doing, or out of jealousy. How can you sympathize with a brainless wit like that.
Jack Gleeson was absolutely brilliant in this role. I cannot think of another character in some other movie or TV series that felt so evil and cruel as Joffrey. He plays his role so convincingly that I do hope that the real Jack Gleeson has nothing of this in him.

She didn't really defend him, she said "I don't remember" so she'd basically abstain because she was in a no-win scenario: Side with Arya and shame the Prince (her future husband) in front of the King which would damage the Stark/Baratheon Alliance and her own marriage vow (to always support Joffrey) or side with Joffrey and condemn Arya.
Arya was still awakening to her true self here so she couldn't have killed him then. She even looks surprised and shocked by how much of a coward truly is when he got injured.
This is the first time I'm seeing Sansa, Joffrey and Areya so young, I never really watched the series accept for binge watching the shorts here on YT - and yet I can see how from the beginning Sansa made it all about herself, Joffrey was born the psychopath he turned out to be - and Areya was the strongest and amazing warrior she was meant to be! 😄🤗💗
Wombey Joffrey, certainly. But whether to do it quickly and thus dispose of a critical threat, or slowly for the pleasure.... Ah, but business before pleasure, as they say.
I mean, she was ment to be a kid in the beginning of the show. She is actually one of the stronger characters now(not in terms of fighting, but how she did develop). She wasnt the brightest for sure, but she did what she hqd to do to survive
@@ThyWeepingWillow That's not an inviable trait, at all. Survival at all costs, no matter how, is something for bottom feeders. Like a parasite or plankton.
@@newerest1 that is not really true. LOTS of animals choose survival. Even wolfs and bears know when a fight isnt worth it most of the time. @@ThyWeepingWillow And where did that attitude get the wolves and the bears? A secure place under our boot in the food chain. We've gotten this far because survival stopped being enough at some point. The guy is right, being a "survivor" isn't a virtue. In fact, it can lead to cowardice.
People say they hate Sansa here. She was a quite sheltered child, playing at being a lady betrothed to a handsome and powerful prince who was heir to the Iron Throne. She also never really had a good relationship with Arya, they were much too different from each other and her parents never really helped them overcome their differences. It took a shit ton of death, destruction, and personal sacrifice for both of them to understand and accept each other as they were. And in Sansa's case she grew a lot and she left fantasies behind and embraced her reality. It took her a bit, as she says she's a slow learner, but she's not stupid and she's not naive and she's not banal, she was just sheltered and didn't have the best example, as Ned was much too proud and she inherited that from him. Y'all tend to forget the characters' ages and upbringing.
I still think she was acting incredibly stupid in this scene. Even a sheltered girl should realize that a boy swinging a sword FULL FORCE at her little sister is NOT someone she wants to associate with
@@jameslough6329 I know that by our standards it looks like that. But it was expected of Jeoffrey to be like this, plus I'm sure she had seen her brothers spar with her sister, and she didn't really care for Arya that much either.

I hear he quit acting because of the viewer response. Like they really despised him and were all negative. More people appreciate him for his talent nowadays so who knows, maybe he'll return one day
Looking back on this scene it's tragic Sansa didn't realize her care for Joffery was hurting him, because his father's neglect and constant pampering from Cercei was his problem
At his core, Joffrey is just the sad byproduct of a toxic mother and an absent father. The War of the Five Kings? Joffrey's rehash of Robert's Rebellion, in an attempt to escape his shadow.
With many of the characters, even the ones you could call "villains", I was always able to find something about their character that kept me interested in them, to make me like them. With Jamie and Cersei, it was how much they loved their families, with characters like Littlefinger and Tywin, it was how charismatic they were, and so on. But Joffrey? I was not able to find a single quality that I was able to like about him. Not one. The absolute bottom of the barrel for these characters.

I hate how Sansa goes my poor prince instead of checking on her sister 🤣🤣
Not so tough without his sword.
+Andrew Shuboy He wasn't very tough with it...he was a joke of a warrior anyway...hence why Robert didn't care about him. lol
Reminds me of that one scene in Disney's Robin Hood. The part when Robin threatened Prince John with his sword and John is like. "No! Don't hurt me!" XD
Him and Robb would have made for an 'interesting' duel.
He literally tried his best to kill Arya at first. She kept dodging him.
Or even with it. Couldn't even land one hit on Arya.
Joffrey was all talk, but when it came to fighting or was backed into a corner, he was a coward.

Aria's more of a man than joffrey.
Arya
Bravery and nobility are not just man qualities.
@@hutchfan6751 well said
@@hutchfan6751 oh shut up. It's a figure of speech
I don’t think Arya would appreciate being called a man.
This was the beginning of the end of Arya and Nymeria's time together. Heartbreaking.
It was Joffrey all Time)
And in that era, high Born ladies are not supposed to get along or be friends with a low born boy like Mycah.
Arya is in the right, Sansa isn’t.
poor sword didn't deserve that
It was shamed by Joffrey's touch; it was kinder this way.
I'm sure someone else would have picked it up later while crossing the stream.
Seriously, Sansa? "Arya, stay out of it!" King Joffrey started it!
It was just a comment... Nothing to go into depths...
-.-
Don't worry, she suffered for it.
kayceeBurtonFreak This is why even when Sansa and Arya reunite, it may be slightly tense at first.
This young man is so talented and he played this character perfectly. I am always amazed at young actors who can reach the depths it takes to make their characters so believable.
If I remember right Joffrey sort of ruined the actors' career. He played Joffrey so well that people would legit send him personally hate mail, and he found it hard to get other roles because he was so associated with Joffrey.
@@welcometothemonkeyapezone7797what? That is 100% false. The actor said he never got any irl hate, apart from the usually "I hate Joffery's character" echoed online. And he took a break from acting for his own personal reasons. He's resumed acting and has been in some other flicks since then.

Joffrey is like a real life version of Eric Cartman. Can talk the talk but can't walk the walk.
So true. Also, I hate Cartman as well, so I have a mutual hate for both of them. Only thing is, Cartman is not as truly sadistic as Joffrey, and Carman can actually be funny sometimes.

I hated Sansa in Season 1...but oddly enough now she has become my second favorite character in the entire show. I love how her character has matured and changed throughout the Seasons. Sansa isn't a fighter, but she's one hell of a survivor and I'm glad to see her finally realizing what the world is really like.
What a load of crap. Rather than standing up she's doing oh my poor Prince. She should've been executed along with her poor Prince.
She should be dead in season 6
Sansa is a useless bitch

Amazing acting done by the boy. He was so good people hated him unfortunately 😔

People who adore royalty and fancy princes and princesses tend to forget what Monarchy was really about...

Its called being smart enough to know when you are outmatched. any creature that realises its outmatched, wouldnt go for 'fight'

@@ThyWeepingWillow And where did that attitude get the wolves and the bears? A secure place under our boot in the food chain. Maybe secure is an overstatement - will there even be bears and wolves in 100 years?
Humans these days act more like a superorganism. Macroscopically, more like an ant colony than anything else.
Thank you!

Rewatching this after a few seasons of getting to know the characters and getting to hate Joffrey is SO satisfying.
R.I.P in pieces
Looking back on this scene it's tragic Sansa didn't realize her care for Joffery was hurting him, because his father's neglect and constant pampering from Cercei was his problem
At his core, Joffrey is just the sad byproduct of a toxic mother and an absent father. The War of the Five Kings? Joffrey's rehash of Robert's Rebellion, in an attempt to escape his shadow.
Aahhhh...Yes...There's some things that are always welcome to see again, even after 12 years.
He could've taken her out and the dog. I would have LOVED Joffery as a villain if he could actually fight.
