wonderful memories. i miss my childhood :(
yeah life seems to keep getting harder
One of the reasons why life feels harder is because ScrewAttack, Ifuckgamer and Channel Awesome made up excuses to put Mario 2 on their lists of worst Mario games.
Dexter never knew you liked this game
Wait So Your A Grownup?
@@kieranstark7213 Irate Gamer, too. However, the game's reputation has since improved, with many cool channels like Gaijillionaire, Gaming Historian, the No Swear Gamer and Cygnus Destroyer providing a better education on the game's history and highlights. Many people were disappointed that Mario Maker 2 didn't have a SMB2 game style (though still happy to see the SMB2 mushroom and Phanto)
I was 9 when this came out and I loved it! Definitely one of the most fun nes games ever
Nintendo did a great job on the music for this game
Koji Kondo*
This game was going to have a different underground theme, similar to the one used in SMB3. Instead, they used the one in Doki Doki Panic, which was originally going to be a Mario game.
@@nolang.7443 I'm pretty sure this game IS Doki Doki Panic but they reskinned it as a mario game for American release
Yeah. I agree.
@@theangryewok3001 that's what they did
I've forgotten so much of this. The game still looks great.
POW
I love this game its just awesome and its one of my favorite nes games
This game was my child hood! Awesome memories!
🤠
@@Gravy_Master ?
Another slice of nostalgia. It was a simpler time...
In many ways yes. There was no Zlatan Ibrahimovic back then. The city wasn't dependant on malmö in any way. I wasn't exactly good at football but that didn't matter too much. I had lots of friends around my neighborhood. Kids would play Super Mario 1-3, Contra and Teenage Ninja Turtles. Also I remember that golden Zelda cartridge among other exciting new games. Ginger breads we would get from the old man next door. Summer holidays in France and England. Ski trips. Delicious cookies and deserts. Climbing in ropes. Water parks. I had a good childhood.
Dra åt Helvete i wanna live in the 90's but i was born in 2009 :(
@@supermario5820 Damn 2009? Really?
The first NES game I ever beat, back during the Summer of 1989.
Luigi was always the best because of his air time.
*Peach *her
GracefulNanami Peach could hover, but she couldn't jump as high as Luigi. Luigi had some serious hang time; whereas Mario simply jumped and fell, Luigi seemed to defy gravity even as he was falling back down.
ObscurityIsBest
Luigi is hard as hell to control landing, though and hovering is far more useful than jumping high to me.
GracefulNanami To each his own, I guess. I always found Luigi to be much better than the Princess, in part because he could jump much higher and further. I never found him too hard to control.
ObscurityIsBest hey, both Luigi and Peach are better than toad, his jump is garbage, everyone else is better than toad.
23:30 Sonic!
wtf?
No, It's Porcupo.
its a joke
Ahahaha nice joke. So true !!
I bet Sonic himself is playing Mario 2 with his middle finger investigating these blue hedgehogs (or porcupines) for himself
I loved this game as a kid, the music, the characters, the atmosphere..I loved everything about it. It's so nostalgic to see the intro after all these years
Super Mario bros 2 is one the most popular game on NES I love the graphics and music to this game I love playing this game
Even though this game is pretty much a clone of doki doki panic, this game has ONE OF THE MOST FUCKING CATCHY SOUNDTRACKS I'VE EVER HEARD. :)
by Yves tfsuajs shhwhxhdus Dude did you know that Doki Doki Panic was supposed to be a Mario game?
by Yves tfsuajs shhwhxhdus Totally agree
Actually. it's not completely a port. clawgrip is a new boss replacing white mouser from doki doki panic.
This is my favorite of the 3 Super Mario Bros. games for the NES
First time I ever played this was way back in the day, didn't know what the hell I was doing. I figured out how to get vegetables out of the ground and use as weapons, but did not know to pick up Birdo's eggs and return them to him (this was back in 89, I asked people in my freshman year homeroom and got my answer). Years later once I knew what to do, I traded a copy of Bayou Billy to a friend for this (I since have gotten Bayou Billy for my collection again), and got good at getting lives in this. I no longer have the rhythm to the slot machine game, but at one time I used to get around 200 lives, the game couldn't read numbers properly past 99, so it would go A0 through A9, then B0 through B9. I had the lives counter somewhere in the O's territory, never had to worry about lives as I had tons of them. These days I still have my NES copy, the version on SMB All Stars (3 freaking copies), and SMB Advance on GBA. Though I really do hate the voice samples on the GBA version, Charles Martinet's voice gets grating very, very quickly.
Bloodreign1 to be
I love SMB 2, "F" Doki Doki Panic, the only reason it's remembered is because of this game and the real SMB 2 (lost Levels) is more of an expansion pack of SMB 1 anyways so I'm more than happy to accept this game as the real SMB 2.
Draven the only reason this game is considered to be smb2 is because this game was originally released only to Japan known as doki doki panic the lost levels is actually the real Mario 2 but shigero miyamoto (spell check) decided at the last second that Mario 2 (lost levels) was to hard for the American audience so they took doki doki panic and did a full character swap due to demand of Mario 2
No Kidding,
It wasn't Miyamoto, it was Nintendo of America.
Seriously, Lost Levels is garbage. I have played all of it (including the bonus worlds) and all I remember is frustration. The so-called "real SMB2" is incredibly overrated.
Alex Kettle Actually, it's the other way around. Even if DDP was first conceived as a Mario prototype, it was first finished as DDP and then repurposed as SMB2. Don't expect arrogant purists to understand that, though.
Lost Levels is frustrating! I love SMB2 (Doki Doki Panic) and i prefer this one over the real game.
gracias amigo longplay bonito super mario bros 2 y que disfrutes todos tus juegos que subas gracias mi mejor amigo te felicito
Wow, great timing! I was just searching for this and was disappointed it wasn't here. Awesome!
Oh wow! I remembered playing this when I was like 4 or 5 or 6!!! I love this game!!! :D
Same here, I was 3 :v
+Pigsareboss How did you do at that game?
I like the music for the ending credits. It's quite relaxing. Imagine having that tune playing on a loop when going to bed at night and just drifting off to a nice, blissful sleep.
This is one of my most favorite 2D games ever, it’s so good and introduced my favorite characters Shy Guys!! This brings back memories of trying it on 3DS virtual console for the first time! It’s funny I’m saying this but I’m very grateful the Japan Mario Bros 2 overdid it with the difficulty so the SMB2 I know would come to be!
I love these classic games. I grew up with NES and Game Boy. So many games I enjoyed playing in those days from the 1980s and 1990s. Nostalgia for me. And @TheOnlySteve31187, I never noticed that before. But, when I saw it again after seeing your comment, I realized that you're right. Speaking of sad faces, I certainly have one when seeing these videos and knowing I can't play these games anymore. :(
SUPA MARIO BRUDAS TOOOOOOOOO ITS STILL THE KING BABY
My whole childhood is in front of my eyes. Thanks.
What's awesome about this was that this game was released on the same month, day and year I was born: October 10, 1988.
Also the same week that saw two major hits released a day after my birthday: "My Prerogative" by Bobby Brown and "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" by Poison. 1988 was such an awesome year.
Funny, I was just reading a GameSpot article about how 1998 was an amazing year for gaming, 10 years later.
@@GarrisonBurrows funny, i thought 2017- 2019 was an awesome year (think about it)
Still my favorite Mario game.
This game gave an amazing first impression with great animation, music and sprite graphics. I liked the charm of treating it like a stage play. Shame so many parts of the game, like having to dig down through sand, were so tedious. Sometimes I like a game for the impression it gives, but its gameplay is what carries.
Update:: I only takes 1 hour to get through!??
Feels so peaceful. The days I went to school and my mum was around. Playing football outside. My friends were there, too.
So happy to see the new Mario Maker 2 update include elements of this underrated Mario game!!
good times, good times, ah the memories
I loved the Wart battle at the end I remember dying 5 times in that battle. So much memories
Alone with my Nintendo during the holidays - not alone anymore, thank you Mario and friends :)
Easily the best looking NES Mario game, maybe the best of the 3 overall. The character sprites look so good! As a kid I had no idea this was being released, just walked in to a store one day and there it was. My parents bought it for my brother and I on the spot. As a kid that mostly rented and hardly ever owned NES games, it was a huge deal. I'm almost 43 and I still remember that day. Such a different game than the first, and knowing now that it wasnt originally a Mario Bros game makes sense.
I don’t know why, but the sound when objects collide is so satisfying to hear.
Very skilled and nicely done playthrough!
finally, something for me to put on at night and calmy fall asleep to. nice one uploader.
I had the SNES version when I was a kid
Same.
I usually watch this before I go to bed.
The first game I ever owned and beat, great memories!
My all time favorite game. To each his/her own. I played this so much I could go through the whole game with all 4 characters without losing a life with no warps. I guess you'd call it an obsession.

Wish I had a dream like that. Thumbs up if you felt the same here.
I want the same dream. Also I,d like daisy, blue toad and yellow toad and me for the crew
hi there
my sister said it was stupid that it was all a dream but i was like nah thats an awesome dream
+EvilNecroid One person said he was disappointed once he completed the game saying how disappointing that he didn't win anything after completing the game realizing that the whole game was just a dream.
I once had a dream like this except it was for Super Mario Bros. 1
I had a lot of fun with this one. I played primary with princess because her floating ability with a touch Luigi's crazy ups.
Omg I remember watching this like 5 years ago on my mom's laptop! Lol the nostalgia
THE KING IS BACK BAYBEE!
The warp zones on here, unlike on the other Mario games, involve going into subspace and jumping down a jar. Another difference between the jars and the pipes is that the you can go down almost all of the jars on here, whereas there are only a select few in each level of the game to go down.
same here everything was great about it to the music and unique levels
I'm guessing he saw the world of Subcon from the "He saw exactly what he saw in his dream," because if they left out the 'in his dream' part, most folks would go crazy figuring out what he saw, despite the fast intro for conrext clues.
Great video and playing.
this game is fun but also extremely hard to beat.
you should try battletoads or ghosts n goblins, those games are a lot easier. personally I could never pass the first screen of this game, just too damn hard. the patterns on those enemies are so hard to figure out
Fulcanelli I really do hope that you’re joking right now...
Yeah this is the easiest Mario game
Fulcanelli I agree...this actually the hardest one and I don't know many people who beat it
Perhaps you should try the "other" Super Mario Bros. 2...the one that was released in Japan that looks like the original SMB game and is on Super Mario All-Stars as Lost Levels.
1:05:08 I got scared as hell when that Owl flew off the wall the first time.
38:20 how did the NES sound chip play those awesome drums / percussion sounds. amazing
POW
Loved the new enemies in this game. Shyguys, Pokeys and Ninjis - they were all a great addition to the Koopa Troopas from the first game. And Phanto - I was scared of that face, but somehow I wish it will be back some day. Also liked the desert levels, where you should dig your way through. They should use that more in future SMB Games. SMB 2 is a great game, IMO. 8,5/10.
Despite it's history it still feels like a Mario game
IT'S A MASTERPIECE
At least it makes me feel better to see of what MODERN video games have become.
and yet m night whats his name eat yer friggin heart out!!!
gracias mi mejor amigo te felicito
Fun fact: Those lady bug things, crawling up the vines, are called delights. Now get those thumbs up!
Espectacular 😊😊😊
Man i remember playing this game at my grandparents house and my aunts house as a kid when I was like 3 going on 4 in 1993 and that's when I started playing video games
i remember thisss!! i was 4 when i got my super nintendo and i got one of those multi mario games and this was on it!
My childhood memories ❤ I love this game more than mario
I finally beat this game. Took me 2/3 months to finish it.
Looks very talented!
Super Mario Bros. 2 is a platform game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The game was first released in North America in October 1988, and in the PAL region the following year. It has been remade or re-released for several video game consoles. Mario has a dream of staircase leading to a door to another world. A voice identifies the world as the dreamland of Subcon, and asks for Mario's help in defeating villainous frog named Wart, a tyrant who has cursed Subcon and its people. Mario suddenly awakes and decides to tell Luigi, Toad and Princess Peach, who all report experiencing the same dream. The group decides to go on a picnic, but upon arriving, they discover a cave with a long staircase. Through a door at the top, the group gets transported to Subcon, revealing their dreams to have been real. After defeating Wart, the people of Subcon are freed and the group celebrates, but Mario suddenly awakes in his bed, unsure if the events that took place were real or just a dream.
Game of the year AGAIN, baby!!
To this day, it’s still game of the year
I played this old school Super Mario Brother's 2 back in the 1990's Childhood memories
Like many, I absolutely love SMB2. To me it is one of the perfect examples of how a platform game should be done.
Since I'm an adult, I was kinda shocked to discover some people dislike it. Sorry but, this is head and shoulders better than the Japanese one. Is not even a contest. The controls alone leave the other in the dust, let alone graphics, music and the gameplay.
I like watching his super Mario videos when I was younger
Boy George used to play this game with Bobby Orr. Orr was always Princess. He said she had good techniques.
Super Marios 1 to 3 both in NES original and SNES port of All Stars are equally awesome.
10:00 I remember those magical enemy deaths from my childhood playing this game.
My all time favourite Super Mario game ❤
DDP definitely helped out the SMB universe with shyguys and bobombs like you mentioned plus Birdo.
Maybe the best game of Mario all times. Its a legend... and a very fun game..
The original Mario Bros. A remade version was on every Super Mario Advanced game for GBA. That is, Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. It was also on Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.
I know there's some people who prefer the more traditional gameplay of Mario 1 or Lost Levels, but this and Mario 3 were my favourite Mario games until the SNES came out. Part of what keeps this game alive in my memory is because of how heavily it influenced the cartoon, but it was also the only Mario game for a very long time to allow playing as someone other than Mario.
While it's true that Luigi is often available as Player 2, you can't exclusively play as Luigi in most games outside of a couple of spin-off titles. In fact, as time went on Luigi got removed entirely as the series went primarily single-player. And heaven forbid you get to even THINK of playing as Princess Toadstool. Hell, Toad has larger roles than the princess, with exception to the Smash Bros series which is, however, a spin-off of sorts.
SMB2 also has a really good soundtrack and some great enemy designs. Not to mention it gave us Shyguys, who went on to become regulars in the series. Personally I'd love to see them do something with Sub Con again, but I doubt they will.
8:45
How exactly does that slot game work, anyway? It seems there are other ways to win besides selecting the same symbol every time.
I love the puzzle-style nature of this game. I love how many elements of it were carried over to Super Mario World, even though this game was basically a sprite swap with a totally unrelated Miyamoto game. Modern Mario games could really use more influence from this neat game.
thought i didn't beat that when I was a kid but the ending brought flashbacks. And for some reason I only played with toad, seemed to fit the game more.
2:59 I thought that that was disturbing when I was younger
It still is disturbing
Same now I'm not
Great ending and sondtrack on this game.
The other one I've seen he did the whole thing with luigi. Of all characters!
From 1:07:53-1:07:57, as Mario opened his eyes and looked around, he was probably thinking "oh, it's still the middle of the night, I'm going back to sleep" where he probably looked at the time seeing that it's still the middle of the night. At the same time, I was hoping he could have gotten out of bed and said something like "wow, what a dream, I can't wait to tell Luigi, Toad, and Princess that all four of us were in a dream together" while walking out of the room and then the end credits start.
Thanks!
This Game Inspired the Animation Company to Do a Animated Series Based on Nintendo's Popular Mario Videogame Character in 1989. It Ran in Syndication in 1989-1990 and Only Lasted for One Year. The Segments Include Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda.
This one was so different from 1 and 3
I love this game and music 💞 it is my childhood💞😁
always laughed at the world five boss...thought he was playing basketball with that one drop off
Game of the year I don’t even know how many years in a row now
This looks nicer on Super Mario All Stars (for SNES.) Highly recommended.
I 100% agree.
I have that but mine is a bootleg and I think my copy is optimized for PAL because when I played it on my Japanese NTSC Family Computer the music is faster than that.
I will gladly die on the hill that this is a better game than The Lost Levels
Great game. I enjoyed it more than Mario 3 and 1. For me the best 8 Bit Mario ever. And Toad as playable charakter plays a big part in my opinion. :>
Great Game Great Music
the first game in the mario series to have a storyline.
Super mario bros has a storyline
40:11 That crab boss was like Steph Curry with those shots!! 🏀
the best video os story
I always thought that this was one of the most challenging older Mario games.
I have a couple of reasons to think this was actually always (or at least somewhere in the beggining) supposed to be SMB2.
