In his memoirs, An Abundant Life, Elder Hugh B. Brown explained "the Apostolic Charge" that every apostle is apparently given upon admittance to the Q12. It reads as follows: "Always be willing to subjugate his own thoughts and accept the majority opinion not only to vote for it but to act as though it were his own original opinion after it has been approved by the majority of the council of the twelve and the First Presidency."

When I had my "faith crisis" a number of years ago (after being a faithful, card-carrying member for over 40 years), it was the "pattern of deceit" that I began to see that convinced me that the Mormon church could NOT be the "Church of Jesus Christ". The Mormon church was founded on, and maintained with, a consistent misrepresenting of the truth at best and outright lies at worst. It comes as no surprise that the so-called "Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ" would continue that tradition. Looking back now, I can only say that we were so duped because the truth was not available at that time. Thank goodness, "ye shall know the truth and the truth will make you free".

It's sad, isn't it? I'm 60, was a member all my life. Baptized by Donny Osmond. Married in the temple to a woman I simply adore, who's still a TBM. But about five years ago I decided to research history, and what we know about early America, the Egyptian language, and the truth claims made by the Mormon church. It fell apart so fast. My world-view collapsed. I wanted it to be true. It's simply not. At all. It's a fraud, perpetuated by a con-man, who had easily duped people all around him. Truth matters.

I wrote to the prophet describing the dream and asking what this might mean. His secretary replied and told me to talk to my stake president because the prophet didn’t know my history and past. I had believed a prophet could interpret my “vision like” dream. The fairytale began to tarnish at that point. Should have cut and run then but I completed the mission. I imagine that they sign NDAs which strictly limit what they can say about certain topics. They probably do this when they become a 70 and it still applies when they get into the Q12. All journals, etc., which they write belong to the church - that's part of the agreement which they sign. Hans Mattsson talks a little bit about it in his book.

This specific example is a great example of how indoctrination works. Active members KNOW the 2nd article of faith about being punished for our own sins + baptism being required, yet they either didn't question the delay of baptisms (because of parental sin) or they kept their mouths shut. This is basic, basic LDS doctrine that was violated, yet most TBMs didn't say a word. Indoctrination is an extremely powerful control tool.
